Chapter 66
Sanyan was the first to laugh and say, “When we came this time, that fat guy insisted on coming along no matter what. In the end, I had no choice but to bring in Brother Dong to keep him back. Before I left, that kid even kicked me! Heh!”
“That little brat!” Xie Wendong shook his head with a wry smile. “Are the brothers back home all fine?”
Sanyan took out a cigarette, nodded, and said with a smile, “They’re fine. They just spend their days idling around, wandering the streets. Thankfully, everyone remembered what you said before you left and didn’t cause any trouble. Otherwise, haha!! City J would be in chaos!”
Xie Wendong thought of those brothers and couldn’t help but laugh. Sanyan asked, “Brother Dong, I heard from Laosen that some group called the Soul-Reaping Gang attacked you. What happened?”
Xie Wendong recounted the whole story from start to finish. After hearing this, Sanyan’s expression darkened. He pulled out two silver-colored pistols from his back and placed them on the coffee table, then said angrily, “Damn it, Brother Dong, tell me—how should we deal with them? Also, I brought you these two guns for self-defense!”
Xie Wendong and Jiang Sen exchanged a smile. Jiang Sen said, “Sanyan, last night, Brother Dong and I took down four of the leaders of the Soul-Reaping Gang. Damn it, it was a lesson for them. If they try to cause trouble to Brother Dong again, we’ll keep killing them!”
Sanyan shook his head and said, “That’s not satisfying. Killing a few people—what’s that? If we’re going to do it, we should do it big time! Do they have a base? It would be great if we could burn it down!”
Jiang Sen pondered for a moment and murmured, “That makes sense too. But according to the information I gathered, the Soul-Reaping Gang has only one base, yet it has over three thousand members. Their base probably isn’t easy to attack!”
Sanyan burst into laughter and said, “How is that possible? Laosen, even your information can be wrong. Three thousand people in one base? Are they eating shit instead of food? How is that possible?”
Jiang Sen blushed and said, “My information is definitely correct…” Then he explained everything about the Soul-Reaping Gang to Sanyan. After hearing this, Sanyan slammed the table and said, “Damn those little devils! Before, it was the army we drove away; now, it’s the mafia that’s back. Damn!” He then turned to Xie Wendong and said, “Brother Dong, those little devils aren’t popular here. If we take advantage of this to deal with them, we might even get everyone’s support!” Sanyan was a native of Northeast China and had no good impression of the Japanese at all.
Xie Wendong fiddled with the pistol brought by Sanyan. He was familiar with this gun; he still remembered vividly the incident three years ago when he fought against the Tigers Gang. Back then, he had really liked these two guns, but he had never had the chance to use them. Now, they could see the light of day. Xie Wendong pointed the gun out of the window and mimicked the sound of a gunshot with a “bang!” “The Soul-Reclaiming Gang, the Tigers Gang, Peng Shulin, Wang Guohua—no matter who they are, whether they’re from Japan, Russia, or China, anyone who hinders my progress will be shattered by me!” His eyes gleamed with intensity.
Sanyan and Jiang Sen were both stunned, staring at Xie Wendong in awe. Yes, this was Xie Wendong. In his mind, there was no such thing as good or evil—only friends and enemies. If you were a friend, you could consider yourself lucky; if you were an enemy, as long as you were still alive, the name Xie Wendong would forever be a nightmare you couldn’t shake.
In the afternoon, Xie Wendong took Sanyan and the others to Xin Qingnian. After exchanging a few words with Wang Guohua, they were led to a room on the second floor that resembled an office meeting room. As soon as they entered, Wang Guohua couldn’t wait and asked, “Brother, did you bring the goods?”
Xie Wendong took out a small transparent bag from his pocket and handed it to him, smiling, “This is a sample. Take a look!”
Wang Guohua quickly took it, opened it, and spilled a little onto his palm. He examined it closely but couldn’t figure out anything. Suddenly realizing he didn’t understand, he smiled apologetically at Xie Wendong and handed the bag to one of his subordinates behind him. That man clearly knew his way around drugs. He picked up a tiny amount with his thumbnail, sniffed it, nodded, then put it in his mouth. After five seconds, he spat out and gave Wang Guohua a thumbs up, saying, “It’s top-quality!”
Wang Guohua’s face lit up. He asked, “How does it compare to ‘Lao Gui’s’ goods?”
The man thought for a moment and said, “It’s almost the same!”
Xie Wendong asked curiously, “‘Lao Gui’? Who is he?”
Wang Guohua pulled Xie Wendong to sit down and said with a laugh, “Lao Gui is also a drug dealer! Apparently, he’s a liaison from the Golden Triangle. He came to the north specifically to find customers. But his prices are too high, damn it! He insists on 250 without any negotiation, saying it’s because he’s buying in small quantities. Hell, now that I have brothers here, I don’t need to deal with him anymore, haha!”
Xie Wendong felt a stir in his heart and asked, “Is this ‘Lao Gui’ really from the Golden Triangle?”
Wang Guohua pondered, “I think it’s true. Just look at those men he’s bringing with him—each one is an expert. To be honest, I also practiced martial arts for a while back, and I’m pretty good at judging people. His men are indeed not ordinary folks. He said he’s here to find big clients, carrying dozens of kilograms of heroin. Damn, what monsters!”
Xie Wendong’s mind was racing. After a while, he asked, “Where does this guy live?”
Wang Guohua, no longer worried about the heroin matter, replied without hesitation, “He lives in the western suburbs outside the city, in an abandoned factory belonging to a place called ‘Weimin’ Food Factory. That’s where they live!” Then he asked curiously, “Brother, why do you want to know?”
Xie Wendong didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Why don’t they live in the city? How can we find that place?”
Wang Guohua said, “It seems some of them are wanted by the state and don’t dare live in crowded areas in the city. As for that old factory, it seems they discovered it by chance! Brother, what exactly do you plan to do?”
Xie Wendong had a plan in mind. He opened his mouth but, seeing Wang Guohua’s men standing nearby, stayed silent. Wang Guohua, being astute, told his men, “You guys go outside first!” Then he looked at Xie Wendong with confusion.
Xie Wendong leaned in and whispered in his ear, “Brother Wang, this is a chance!”
Wang Guohua didn’t understand and asked puzzledly, “What chance? Explain clearly, brother!”
Xie Wendong smiled and said, “Those guys are from the Golden Triangle. We’re in the far north of China—they can’t possibly know much about this place. We can take advantage of this opportunity to deal with them… capture them and steal the goods they brought! No one will know anything, hehe! They won’t even suspect us. What do you think, Brother Wang?”
Upon hearing this, Wang Guohua gasped and fell silent, deep in thought, weighing Xie Wendong’s words.
Seizing the moment, Xie Wendong continued, “Besides, they’re in the suburbs where there are few people. As long as we make proper arrangements, no one will know. Brother Wang, think about it—those are dozens of kilograms of top-quality goods, worth tens of millions! With that, won’t we be able to expand our business? And you still have connections in the city police force! When you become the boss of the underworld in City H, I’ll need your help a lot!”
Wang Guohua was tempted, but he wasn’t stupid. Having been in the underworld for so long, he was quite sharp-minded. Although Xie Wendong’s plan made sense, he still felt something was off. “It’s a good idea, but what if one of them escapes and takes the news to the Golden Triangle… I might lose my head. You must understand what kind of people are in the Golden Triangle, right?”
Xie Wendong pretended to hesitate before gritting his teeth and saying, “Brother Wang, I’ll go with you! If we work together, no one will be able to escape!”
“What? You’re coming with me? Well…” If Xie Wendong joined him, Wang Guohua would feel much more at ease, but he was still hesitant.
Xie Wendong hurriedly added, “As brothers, we should share both hardships and joys. I’ll do my utmost if I go with Brother Wang—no one will get away! If the Golden Triangle finds out, those guys’ lives won’t be safe either!”
Human desires are terrifying, and they become even more evident when they overcome reason.
Wang Guohua found this reasonable and was moved. Patting Xie Wendong on the shoulder, he said, “Good! You’re a true brother. I wasn’t wrong about you—you’re indeed loyal!”
Xie Wendong said, “Life is short, just a few decades. There are few chances to fight hard! If we succeed this time, H City will belong to us in the future! This is a rare opportunity—we’ll regret it forever if we miss it.”
Seeing Wang Guohua still undecided, Xie Wendong pretended to talk to himself, “I wonder why the Soul-Reaping Gang has been so restless lately!”
Wang Guohua was surprised. “What? The Soul-Reaping Gang is also getting involved?”
“I think so. I heard today that they’re frantically buying arms—most likely for that shipment in ‘Old Ghost’s’ hands!” Xie Wendong was just making things up; how could he possibly know if the Soul-Reaping Gang was buying arms? But this time he happened to be right—the Soul-Reaping Gang was indeed buying a large amount of arms, not because of some Old Ghost, but because several of their key members were killed the previous night.
Hearing this, Wang Guohua stood up, no longer hesitant. He said, “Brother, we must act quickly! Let’s take on that gang alone. If we succeed, we’ll get everything we want. If we fail… well, there’s nothing to say. Let’s draw up a plan today—we can’t let the Soul-Reaping Gang get ahead of us!”
Xie Wendong was overjoyed. He shouted, “Exactly! The Soul-Reaping Gang is backed by the Japanese. On our own land, it should be us who take it—those Japanese dogs don’t deserve it!” His words sounded righteous, and his expression was furious. Seeing this, Wang Guohua trusted Xie Wendong even more—after all, few patriots are despicable. Most importantly, his greed had been stirred; after all, it was tens of millions worth of goods that could be sold easily—who wouldn’t be jealous? “Haha, I didn’t expect you to be such a patriot! Haha!”
Sanyan and Jiang Sen exchanged a glance. They knew Xie Wendong best and secretly thought that if he made a movie, he’d outperform those movie stars.
Since Wang Guohua had been there before, he was fairly familiar with the terrain. Xie Wendong, worried and with his own agenda, ordered him to send people to thoroughly investigate the area and draw detailed sketches, so as to ensure everything was planned perfectly. Wang Guohua inwardly praised Xie Wendong for his cleverness; with his plans plus his own additions, success was guaranteed. Once he had money, along with the support of the city authorities and his father-in-law, taking control of H City’s underworld was only a matter of time. The thought of becoming as powerful as the former “Fourth Lord” left Wang Guohua speechless.
Xie Wendong noticed his expression and sneered inwardly: “I hope your sweet dreams last a long time!” Wang Guohua also had his own plans—if Xie Wendong tried to split the profits after success, he would simply get rid of the kid as well.
The two schemed for a long time before finally coming to an end. Before leaving, Xie Wendong said, “Brother Wang, it’s best to have the sketches ready by tomorrow. I’ll come back then to review them together! Also, you must not let anyone else know about this—don’t tell anyone, or… if the plan leaks, none of us will survive. Lastly, you need to secretly select some loyal and capable people. Don’t tell them about the plan yet; inform them only just before we set off. We must be careful!”
Wang Guohua nodded repeatedly and praised, “Your plans are truly thorough, brother. Don’t worry, I understand. No one will know anything until the day we act!”
Xie Wendong nodded in relief and turned to leave with Sanyan and the others.
