Chapter 12
Seeing Sanyan’s worried expression, a wave of warmth flowed through Xie Wendong’s heart. He said gratefully, “Okay, Brother Zhang, I’ll definitely let you know first if anything happens from now on! Is that fine?”
Sanyan laughed heartily. “That’s what I meant! What’s the use of being brothers if you can’t think of each other in times of crisis?”
Xie Wendong nodded in agreement. Before he could say more, he suddenly felt extremely dizzy. Everything around him spun rapidly. He grabbed the stair railing, his body swaying uncontrollably, and his face turned pale.
“Brother Dong, what’s wrong?” Sanyan shouted, catching Xie Wendong and lifting him up with both hands before rushing downstairs. The others were also shocked. Li Shuang yelled, “Damn it, I’m going to fight that bitch, Gao Lao!” He pulled out a knife from behind him and ran upstairs. The others also grabbed weapons and followed Li Shuang.
Xie Wendong, held in Sanyan’s arms, was panicked. He tried to shout but couldn’t. Weakly, he said, “Brother Zhang, quickly call Li Shuang back.”
Seeing Brother Dong’s anxious expression, Sanyan shouted, “Lao Fei, come back! Brother Dong has something to say to you!” Li Shuang, who was on the third floor, hesitated for a moment before stamping his feet and running back. “Brother Dong, what’s wrong? I’ve already sent people after that bitch!”
Xie Wendong glared at him and said angrily, “Do you understand what’s going on? Always so impulsive. Go back all of you. Don’t cause trouble for Gao Lao anymore, got it?”
Seeing Xie Wendong angry, Li Shuang didn’t dare say a word. He sheathed his knife back on his waist and asked cautiously, “Brother Dong, why won’t you let us go confront Gao Lao? We’re not afraid of her!”
Xie Wendong tried to say something but felt dizzy again. Waving his hand, he said, “Forget it. It’s hard to explain right now. I’ll explain to you later…” His voice grew weaker, and eventually, Xie Wendong’s head dipped, and he fainted.
“Brother Dong!” Everyone cried out together when they saw his condition. Sanyan didn’t dare stay. He jumped down the stairs and ran outside. He hailed a taxi and headed straight to a nearby hospital. The others followed, trying to hail taxis as well to go to the hospital and check on Xie Wendong’s condition. But Gao Qiang stopped them, shouting, “Everyone go back first. It’s inconvenient with so many people at the hospital. I’ll come back and tell you all about Brother Dong’s condition later.”
Hearing Gao Qiang’s words, though reluctantly, everyone had no choice but to stay and wait for news. Li Shuang, Gao Qiang, and Zhang Yanjiang got into the car. Zhang Yanjiang told the driver to follow the car ahead, and the driver replied by starting to chase after it. From behind, other drivers shouted, “Hey, are you guys still leaving?” “We’re not leaving!” “Damn it, if you’re not leaving, then why hire a rickshaw?” “Hehe~~~” “Hey! Hey! What are you doing? Trying to fight someone?” “Damn! I’m so angry already, I’ll hit them first…”
J City’s Second People’s Hospital. “Doctor, how is my friend?” A doctor came out of the emergency room, and San Yan rushed in anxiously.
The doctor glanced at him and replied indifferently, “What’s your relationship to the patient?”
Seeing the doctor’s attitude, San Yan’s anger surged. He took a breath and said politely, “Doctor, I’m my friend’s friend. I want to know if he’s in danger.”
The doctor said, “We don’t know yet. We only found injuries to his shoulder and palms. As for other conditions, we’ll have to wait for the test results.”
San Yan asked urgently, “Can we go in and take a look now?”
The doctor smirked and said, “How can that be? The patient is still resting; no one else can disturb him!”
San Yan nodded and took out 200 yuan from his pocket, handing it to the doctor. “We’re his best friends. We just want to take a quick look; we definitely won’t disturb him. Please, be understanding!”
The doctor looked at the money and his attitude changed immediately. He patted San Yan’s shoulder and said, “If that’s the case, it would be unreasonable of me not to let you in. Hehe! Turn to the nurses behind and say they can let them in, but quickly! The test results will be ready tomorrow. Don’t worry!”
San Yan nodded in thanks and went into the ward with Li Shuang and the others. They saw Xie Wendong lying pale on the bed with his eyes closed, an IV tube in his arm. Li Shuang stepped forward quickly, grabbed Xie Wendong’s hand, tears falling on the bed as he muttered, “It’s all my fault. If Brother Dong hadn’t tried to save me, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s all my mistake…” Everyone felt sad, and hearing Li Shuang’s words made their hearts even more painful as they lowered their heads to wipe their tears. San Yan, with reddened eyes, walked over and kicked Li Shuang’s butt, saying, “It’s already happened. What’s the use of crying?”
Li Shuang sobbed, “I’m worried!” San Yan shouted, “Damn it, I’m even more worried than you, but I’m not crying…” He thought to himself: The doctor said there were no serious injuries. Why isn’t Brother Dong awake? Could it be internal injuries?
Xie Wendong on the bed suddenly moved, opened his eyes, and said, “Xiao Shuang, if you keep crying beside me, I’ll beat you into a pig’s head!” Seeing that Xie Wendong was awake, everyone gathered around the bed and asked, “Brother Dong, are you okay?” Xie Wendong stretched his back and said to them, “If you let me sleep a little longer, I promise I’m fine!” Then he pushed Li Shuang’s head and snapped, “Damn it, I’m not dead yet! Why are you crying?” Li Shuang shyly touched his head and wiped away his tears. Hearing Xie Wendong say that, everyone felt relieved and burst into laughter. Zhang Yanjiang took Xie Wendong’s hand and said, “Brother Dong, from now on you can’t take risks alone. If it weren’t for that accident… I would have gone on adventures with you!” Xie Wendong smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I’m very tough. Even the King of Hell wouldn’t want me—unless he’s tired of his position and wants me to take it!” His words made everyone laugh. Xie Wendong got up from the bed, his face slightly flushed, and declared, “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine! But some people are about to be in trouble. In half a month, I’ll make No. 1 Middle School mine. Gao Lao and the Black Dragon Brotherhood will both disappear!” No one doubted Xie Wendong’s words. A belief slowly formed in everyone’s minds: anything Brother Dong said could come true, even if he said he’d become the president of the country the next day. Xie Wendong originally wanted to be discharged, but due to everyone’s strong opposition, he had to call home and say he wouldn’t be returning that night, so he stayed in the hospital. No one left that night; they stayed by Xie Wendong’s side and talked all night long. San Yan had many things to discuss with Xie Wendong, such as expanding their brotherhood, lacking funds, and conflicts with other gangs. After discussing all night, they basically settled everything and came up with a plan, deciding to wait until Liu Jinglong was dealt with before moving forward. The next day, the hospital test results showed that Xie Wendong only had mild hypoglycemia and was otherwise healthy. Only then did everyone truly breathe a sigh of relief. At around 10 a.m., Xie Wendong and the others returned to school. San Yan didn’t come along, as he had gone to prepare for the plan in half a month. When Xie Wendong and Li Shuang returned to the classroom, class had just ended, so they didn’t have to waste time talking to the teacher. The brothers in the class gathered around Xie Wendong when they saw him back and asked various questions. Since they had discussed things all night and hardly slept, Xie Wendong soon felt sleepy. He sent the brothers away and fell asleep on the desk.
By the end of the fourth class and during the lunch break, there was still no sign that Xie Wendong would wake up. The students in the classroom had either gone home or gone out to eat, with only Li Shuang returning with some drinks and bread to munch on. At that moment, a beautiful girl came to the classroom door, kicked it open, and stood outside shouting loudly, “Who’s Xie Wendong? Get out here right now!”
Inside the classroom, Li Shuang was holding a Coke in one hand and bread in the other. He had just taken a sip when the sudden noise startled him, causing the drink to spray all over the floor. “Damn it, who the hell is this reckless person?” He put down the Coke and bread on the table, picked up a stick under the table, and headed toward the door.
“Damn, someone else dares to challenge me! If you want to die, just go ahead…” Li Shuang cursed as he walked, but when he reached the door, he was speechless at the sight of the girl who had kicked the door open. He thought to himself, “Damn, where did this girl come from? She’s really stunning!”
Li Shuang quickly hid the stick behind his back, put on what he thought was his most charming smile, shook his hair stylishly, and said, “Hey~ What brings you here, sister? Are you looking for Xie Wendong?”
The girl sized Li Shuang up, thinking, “Why is he smiling so nastily? He definitely doesn’t seem like a good person.” She smirked and asked, “Are you Xie Wendong?”
Li Shuang chuckled, crossed his legs, and leaned on the doorframe, saying, “I am Xie Wendong…” He had originally wanted to say, “I’m Xie Wendong’s underling,” but as soon as he said “Wendong,” the girl glared and kicked him in the groin. It made Li Shuang jump half a meter in pain; he dropped the stick, covered his groin with both hands, and kept hopping in place. The girl didn’t stop, kicking him repeatedly. Although the kicks weren’t very strong, they still caused him intense pain. He wanted to fight back, but seeing her angry expression, he sighed to himself, “Today is my bad. Who would dare be rude to such a beautiful girl?”
With no choice, Li Shuang ran back into the classroom, shouting, “Brother Dong! Stop sleeping! I’m about to get kicked to death by this tiger! Ahhh~ Mommy~!!” As soon as he finished shouting, two more shoe prints appeared on his backside. He felt so wronged—he hadn’t done anything wrong and still got beaten with shoes for no reason.
Xie Wendong, who was sound asleep, was awakened by Li Shuang’s loud cries. He sat up groggily, his eyes blank—physically awake but mentally still in sleep mode. Seeing that Xie Wendong had finally woken up, Li Shuang shouted while dodging the girl’s kicks, “Sister, stop kicking! I’m not Xie Wendong; he is!” He pointed at the dazed Xie Wendong.
The girl followed Li Shuang’s gaze and was shocked: “How is it him?” She turned to Li Shuang and shouted, “Is he Xie Wendong?”
Li Shuang was really scared. He nodded repeatedly and said, “That’s right, it’s him. Go talk to him if you have anything to ask!” After saying that, he rubbed his bottom and found a chair to sit on.
The girl went up to Xie Wendong and asked, “Are you really Xie Wendong?” He didn’t respond. Li Shuang watched curiously.
The girl rolled her eyes and shouted loudly, “Are you Xie Wendong??” He still didn’t respond. Li Shuang’s lips curled upward.
The girl grew anxious and screamed, “Are you Xie Wendong???” He suddenly stood up, grabbed her, and she let out a cry. Li Shuang’s eyes widened in shock. Then Xie Wendong threw her sideways with force. “Ah~~~” As she screamed, she fell heavily to the ground and took a long time to get up, staring at Xie Wendong in disbelief. He sat back down on the chair, staring blankly ahead.
Seeing the girl’s furious expression, Li Shuang quickly went over to Xie Wendong, fearing she might kick him to death. He shook Xie Wendong’s body and shouted, “Brother Dong, what’s wrong?” He remembered the doctor’s warning when he was discharged: hypoglycemic patients become irritable if disturbed while sleeping.
Only after being shaken by Li Shuang did Xie Wendong fully wake up. Seeing Li Shuang still shaking him, he shouted, “If you want to die, keep shaking!” Scared, Li Shuang quickly pulled back his hand and asked cautiously, “Brother Dong, are you really awake?”
“Nonsense! Is it a ghost talking to you?” Xie Wendong snorted. Feeling something was wrong, he suddenly saw a beautiful girl beside him staring at him with murderous intent. “Gao Huiyu!”
Xie Wendong exclaimed in surprise and walked over with a smile, “Senior, why are you here?”
“I’ve been here for a long time, and you still threw me to the ground so rudely!” Gao Huiyu said through gritted teeth, full of anger.
“That… that can’t be! How could I throw senior to the ground? I had no idea!” Xie Wendong turned to look at Li Shuang, who nodded firmly, “Brother Dong, that’s exactly what happened just now!”
After hearing this, Xie Wendong lowered his shoulders and said softly, “I’m really sorry, senior! I really didn’t know. I must have been unconscious at the time… Let me treat you to dinner as an apology.”
“Tch,” Gao Huiyu rolled her eyes. “Who cares about your dinner? I’m asking you, are you really Xie Wendong?”
Xie Wendong nodded. “Senior, did I offend you in some way?”
Gao Huiyu said, “That’s right! I want to ask you—why are you picking on my sister?” Looking at the boy who called himself her senior, she felt uneasy. He had made her sister so angry that she didn’t sleep all night, but now that she saw him in person, she couldn’t feel any more hatred.
Xie Wendong quickly figured out whom Gao Huiyu meant by “sister” and shrugged, saying, “This is between me and your sister. I hope your senior won’t get involved!”
Hearing Xie Wendong’s words, Gao Huiyu felt pain in her heart and snapped, “Why can’t I get involved? I can handle my sister’s affairs. Who do you think you are to give me orders?”
At that moment, more people started returning to the classroom, all looking at the two of them with confusion. Xie Wendong sighed and took Gao Huiyu’s arm, saying, “Let’s go outside for a walk. I’m hungry and need to eat something.” Without waiting for her consent, he pulled her outside.
After walking a distance away from the school, Xie Wendong released her arm and said seriously, “Actually, my relationship with your sister isn’t as bad as you think. Although we fought once, it’s all in the past now!”
Gao Huiyu’s face turned slightly red from being pulled along by Xie Wendong for such a long distance. She asked softly, “So will you fight my sister again in the future?”
Xie Wendong thought for a moment and replied, “There probably won’t be any chance for a fight anymore!”
Gao Huiyu felt relieved and said, “Hmph! If your second brother finds out you fought my sister, you’ll regret it!”
Xie Wendong asked curiously, “Who’s your second brother?”
Gao Huiyu laughed and winked playfully, “I won’t tell you. Anyway, he’s a really amazing person!”
