Chapter 116: Officer’s ID Card
“Is that what you said?” Jiang Xianxiang immediately laughed upon hearing Chen Xiao’s words.
“Huh? Do you really have the ability to leave?” Qiu Cheng was stunned for a moment before his little eyes lit up. His first thought wasn’t to go out for food but to find an internet cafe to continue playing DOTA.
This military camp was completely enclosed, surrounded by armed soldiers, making it extremely difficult to enter or exit.
Jiang Xianxiang wore a confident smile. Although his family had declined, he could still handle such a simple task as entering the camp.
However, when they arrived at the camp’s entrance, they found that there were already over twenty people gathered there, in small groups, arguing with the guards.
“You little soldier, how dare you block my way? Do you know who I am? I’m Li Chenglian, the young master of the Li family from Jinghua! If you dare stop me, believe me, one call from me and you’ll be in prison immediately!”
As soon as Jiang Xianxiang and the others arrived, they heard these people shouting. And the leader among them was also from the Li family.
Li Chengyun, Li Chenggang, Li Chengfei—now there was Li Chenglian too.
“That Li family guy—last time, we didn’t get a chance to deal with you because of the Wave of Evil Spirits. Who would have thought we’d run into you again? But judging from the behavior of these Li family descendants, they seem to have considerable power in the secular world.”
Chen Xiao, Jiang Xianxiang, and Qiu Cheng stood at the edge of the crowd, watching the people inside coldly.
“There are orders from above: starting today and until the eighth of next month, no student in the camp is allowed to leave.”
The soldier replied to Li Chenglian expressionlessly, showing no regard for his status. Behind him stood a team of guards, and the camp gates were tightly shut.
The walls of the camp were five meters high, covered with barbed wire and electric fences—even ordinary supernatural beings or ancient martial artists wouldn’t be able to escape easily.
And these young masters and ladies who considered themselves noble would never stoop to climbing over the walls to leave.
Hearing the soldier’s words, the young masters and ladies around them became upset, shouting to leave, threatening or offering bribes. But the soldiers remained impassive.
“Oh, isn’t that Young Master Jiang? Why does he also want to leave?” Suddenly, a mocking voice reached their ears.
Chen Xiao looked up and saw Murong Zi, along with the girls they had met at Mo Xiao Pavilion last time. But instead of joining in the noise, they watched with interest.
When they saw Jiang Xianxiang, Murong Zi couldn’t hold back and started mocking him right away.
But when she saw Chen Xiao, her face darkened instantly. Her incident of urinating in public had already been covered up by her family, but after Chen Xiao exposed it, it caused a huge scandal. Thankfully, her roommates were sensible and didn’t press further; otherwise, she really wouldn’t have had the face to see anyone.
“Uh, this isn’t that…” Chen Xiao was about to speak when he saw Murong Zi’s furious expression and wisely kept quiet. A woman going berserk was an extremely terrifying thing.
“Jiang Xianxiang, the eldest son of the Jiang family in Jiangnan. Heh, even the Li family’s young master can’t get out. Do you think you, as an heir of a declining family, can?” Hmph, although you’re the Jiang family’s heir, your status is far inferior to Li Chenglian’s.”
Seeing Chen Xiao shut up, Murong Zi began to rant nonstop about Jiang Xianxiang.
“Hey, if I used the same tactics on the same woman, wouldn’t that be kind of cheap?” Chen Xiao sighed as he watched Jiang Xianxiang’s face gradually turn red and then black.
He understood that everything this woman said was true. To change this situation, he had to revitalize the Jiang family. It seemed Chen Xiao actually had the ability to do so now.
Chen Xiao glanced at Murong Zi, who grew more and more arrogant, completely unaware of her own limitations. He really couldn’t figure out what she was thinking—wasn’t she afraid he might expose again how he made her wet herself?
But even if he wanted to, how many people would believe him? Or make her wet herself once more?
“Never mind. A real man doesn’t argue with a woman. Constantly dealing with her like this is rather boring.” Chen Xiao had a bigger plan in mind. He didn’t really care about a clown like Murong Zi.
“Heh, Miss Murong, how do you know we can’t get out?” It was then that Chen Xiao spoke up.
“Xiangzi has a hundred ways to get out, but you wouldn’t understand even if I told you. Never mind, I’ll prove it with action.”
Without waiting for Murong Zi to respond, Chen Xiao quickly headed toward the gate. He didn’t talk to the soldier blocking the students in front but simply stepped over him and reached the gate.
Chen Xiao had already realized that the soldier in front was just acting as a mouthpiece—he had no real authority. The real decision-maker was the middle-aged officer wearing sunglasses outside a dark green military vehicle in a quiet corner by the gate.
This middle-aged man seemed to be dressed plainly, but he exuded an air of toughness. He was lazily leaning against the vehicle, watching the noisy students with interest.
When he saw Chen Xiao approaching, he was slightly surprised. The other soldiers didn’t stop Chen Xiao either. As long as the gate remained closed, they couldn’t stop anyone from leaving.
Chen Xiao approached the middle-aged officer without saying a word and saluted.
The officer was taken aback and stood up straight, returning the salute. Then, Chen Xiao reached in and handed over a red ID card to the officer.
The officer was puzzled. When he saw it was an officer’s ID, he started to sneer. There were quite a few descendants of wealthy families with military ranks, but most of them were mere nominal figures.
But when he opened the ID card, he was stunned.
“People’s Republic of China, Colonel, Chen Xiao.”
That’s right, it was a colonel. After receiving the order from the Heavenly Group of the Soul of China, Chen Xiao’s rank also rose sharply, going from captain to colonel in no time. For a powerful supernatural being, the Soul of China wasn’t stingy with ranks.
The middle-aged officer immediately stood up straight and saluted Chen Xiao again. Since they were in a relatively secluded corner with obstructed views, no one else saw what was happening here, and few noticed Chen Xiao.
“Let them go!”
Without wasting words, the middle-aged officer gave a signal to the soldiers by the gate, and the heavy military gate slowly opened a slit.
“Xiangzi, Lao San, let’s go,” Chen Xiao called out to Jiang Xianxiang and Qiu Cheng, then left the gate with them.
Murong Zi and the others stared in shock as Jiang Xianxiang and the rest walked out of the gate. Murong Zi’s face was burning with anger—just moments ago they had been told they couldn’t leave, yet now they were walking out of the military camp openly.
“Why can they leave while we can’t?” Li Cheng immediately protested as soon as he saw Chen Xiao and the others leaving.
“Shut your mouths! Do you think I won’t shoot you right now? Get back inside!” The middle-aged officer frowned and shouted loudly, “I don’t care if you’re sons or daughters of noble families—stay in the military camp properly, or don’t blame me if I become ruthless.”
As soon as the middle-aged officer spoke, it seemed as though a bloodthirsty atmosphere filled the air. The students around him immediately fell silent, not daring to say another word.
“Damn it! How could a colonel appear among these students? I’ve spent half my life and only reached the rank of lieutenant. Who the hell is this guy?”
The middle-aged man looked doubtfully at the now-closed gate.
