Chapter 018: Guidance (Part 1)
“Introduction to Thunder Magic?” Chen Xiao picked up the thin booklet and flipped through it casually. But the next moment, his face twisted in frustration—the symbols on it looked like nothing but garbled drawings.
If these were the writings of those with supernatural abilities, then Chen Xiao couldn’t understand a single word.
“That unscrupulous guy… what is this?”
Chen Xiao went through the rest of the booklet from start to finish. Aside from the six big characters on the cover, he couldn’t understand a single word in the entire book.
“Is he trying to trick me?”
He then picked up another booklet titled “Introduction to Gold Magic,” only to find it filled with the same garbled symbols—no actual text at all.
“This…!”
Chen Xiao felt desperate. He casually grabbed another book, “Introduction to Water Magic,” and flipped through it. He thought that since he had inherited the divine essence of the Water God, he should be able to understand it, but again, it was as incomprehensible as before.
“That guy must be laughing at me right now.”
After some thought, Chen Xiao gave up on asking Mo Changli for help.
“I refuse to believe I can’t find one book I can understand!” His competitive spirit surged.
“Wait, I can’t understand it, but that doesn’t mean others can’t. Right, I’ll show it to Shui Miao.”
Chen Xiao tried to communicate with the Main God’s space through the divine essence in his chest.
“It worked.” Chen Xiao smiled slightly as his body suddenly appeared in the Main God’s space, the three thin booklets still in his hands.
“Shui Miao.”
Standing in the starry sky, he called out softly.
“Hello, little one.” As soon as his words faded, Shui Miao’s figure slowly appeared, her face still wearing that seemingly unchanging smile.
“Can you understand this?” Chen Xiao handed her the “Introduction to Water Magic” booklet.
Shui Miao took it, flipped through it briefly, then drew a gesture in the air with one hand. Suddenly, a fist-sized water ball appeared.
“Do you understand now?” Shui Miao didn’t explain anything; she just looked at Chen Xiao.
Seeing this, Chen Xiao lowered his head thoughtfully. Then he opened the “Introduction to Thunder Magic” booklet. The symbols were hard to decipher, but not overly complex.
After hesitating for a while, he began drawing shapes in the air with his fingers—traces that matched those in the booklet. Suddenly, a warm current flowed from the divine essence in his chest and reached his fingers almost instantly.
Whoosh!
A strange rune appeared in the air, quickly turning into a tiny lightning bolt that flashed before Chen Xiao’s eyes.
“This…”
“This is what spellcasters call a spirit spell—using one’s own spiritual energy to manipulate natural forces through their inherent patterns,” said Shui Miao.
“Through my own spiritual energy? But I haven’t undergone guidance yet, and I don’t have any spiritual energy at all,” Chen Xiao scratched the back of his head, puzzled. “Besides, am I not of the water element? Why can I use lightning energy?”
“You don’t have spiritual energy,” Shui Miao’s smile grew even wider as she said, “What you possess is the power of the Supreme God, which is far beyond spiritual energy by countless ranks. Why do you need spiritual energy? The power of the Supreme God isn’t categorized by element when faced with these basic natural forces. Right now, you can wield any elementary force of any element.”
“Then what rank am I as a superhuman?” Chen Xiao nodded and then asked, “Why did I create a black superhuman crystal card of extremely low rank just now?”
“You’re now considered a Supreme God,” Shui Miao said with a smile, but Chen Xiao’s heart skipped a beat.
“However, with your current superhuman strength, through the Star and Moon Staff, you can only match up with a third-rank superhuman. You’ve obtained the divine essence of the Supreme God, but your physical body and soul haven’t fully merged with it yet. Once your body and soul are completely in harmony with the Supreme God’s essence, then you’ll truly possess its power,” Shui Miao explained. “So your rank can’t be determined by that of a superhuman.”
“I see.” Chen Xiao understood now, and a sense of confidence he had never felt before rose in his heart.
Qin Mengyao rejected me perhaps because she thought our statuses were too different, and her family wouldn’t agree either. What if I become a Supreme God? Then even Qin Mengyao’s family back home probably wouldn’t object.
“Supreme God…” Chen Xiao’s heart burned with passion.
“What do I need to do to become a true Supreme God and possess its power?” Chen Xiao’s voice trembled slightly.
“At your current rate of soul growth, it will take perhaps several billion years, or even hundreds of billions of years,” Shui Miao estimated before continuing.
Chen Xiao sniffled, his face now expressionless.
“Several billion years then—well, at least that means I can live that long, right?” he said self-mockingly.
“Hmm. If you don’t quickly create your own mental sea, your lifespan is still 68 years, 7 months, and 5 days,” Shui Miao said after observing Chen Xiao for a while, then counting on her fingers before tilting her head.
“Weren’t you just saying I’m a Supreme God? Can a Supreme God die of old age?” Chen Xiao asked with a gloomy expression.
“A Supreme God, of course, doesn’t die of old age. You’re only a pseudo-Supreme God, and one that’s still in the process of growing,” Shui Miao said. “Only when you create your own mental sea and truly transcend the realm of ordinary people will you truly inherit the divine essence of the Supreme God. Moreover, the power of the Supreme God still resides within that divine essence—it’s not yours yet. Only when you create your own mental sea and draw that power into it will it truly belong to you.”
“What should I do then?” Hope shone in Chen Xiao’s eyes.
“Guidance Art. The purpose of Guidance Art isn’t just to transform an abler’s innate power into spiritual energy; it also serves to open up the mind sea. Only by opening the mind sea and achieving a certain rank can one truly be considered an abler. As for whether what exists in the mind sea is spiritual energy or the power of the Supreme God, it doesn’t matter.”
Chen Xiao nodded. Now he understood why Lin Tianchi was only a first-tier abler but not really a failure. Having a mind sea meant being a true abler; in contrast, those who couldn’t open their mind sea through Guidance Art were the real failures.
“Alright, your time in the Supreme God’s Space for today is up. See you next time,” Shui Miao suddenly said to Chen Xiao.
“Time’s up? What do you mean?” Chen Xiao was stunned.
“With your current strength, you can only stay in the Supreme God’s Space for one hour per day. Since you’ve already spent an hour today, you must leave now.”
Shui Miao waved her hand, sending Chen Xiao away.
“There’s a time limit? I thought I could stay there for billions of years before leaving.” Back where he started, Chen Xiao tried to communicate with the Supreme God’s Space again, only to find he could no longer enter.
“I’d better focus on learning Guidance Art.”
This time, Chen Xiao learned his lesson. He instantly closed his eyes, and his immense mental power enveloped the room as large as a football field.
In another room, Mo Changli, along with two elderly men in black, watched Chen Xiao in shock.
“Who is this kid? His mental power has covered the entire library? How strong is his mental power? Is he really just a beginner?” an elderly man with gray beard and dressed in a Tang suit was astonished.
“His current mental power is at least equivalent to that of a third-tier spellcaster! Maybe even higher! I really underestimated him before,” Mo Changli said with evident excitement. “But his abler potential is too low; it’s likely difficult for him to cast spells using spiritual energy.”
“Who knows…”
……
In the library, Chen Xiao’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Over there.”
