Chapter 431: The Endless Mountains
Upon reaching the foot of the mountains, Ye Feng and the other two realized just how awe-inspiring these rolling peaks truly were. From a distance earlier, they hadn’t realized it, but now that they were closer, they saw that even the height of a single peak in these mountains was tens of thousands of feet. Looking up, even with Ye Feng and the others’ sharp eyes, they couldn’t see the summit.
“Any single peak in these mountains, if placed on Earth, would become a world-famous super attraction,” Long Tian exclaimed in amazement.
“Are you planning to move one back?” Pearl teased from beside him.
“I’d like to, but I don’t have the ability,” Long Tian laughed. “Besides, I don’t have a storage ring big enough to hold something that large.”
“The base diameter of just one of the mountains here is at least 30,000 feet—that’s 100,000 meters, or 100 kilometers. Add in the height, and the total surface area of the entire mountain is terrifyingly large, not to mention the entire range. There must be countless magical beasts in these mountains, and many of them are likely very powerful,” Ye Feng added, also showing interest.
“Just by looking at these trees, it’s clear that the magical beasts here probably live a much better life than humans in the Demon Realm,” Long Tian said, looking up at several giant trees not far away. Each tree had a diameter of about 10 meters and a height of nearly a kilometer. Seeing these trees, Long Tian couldn’t help but think that hollowing out just one of them could suffice to build a large ship capable of holding thousands of people.
“Don’t act like Granny Liu entering the Grand View Garden. Are you planning to take these trees as well?” Pearl laughed.
“I’m wondering how many giraffes could be fed with the leaves from just one of these trees…” Long Tian touched his nose.
“Let’s go. We’ll take a stroll, enjoy the exotic scenery here, and then get ready to continue our journey,” Ye Feng said, stepping into the mountains first.
Long Tian and Pearl immediately followed.
Ye Feng activated his detector, putting the sunglasses-like device back on his nose. He brought it out to find out if there were any special ores or plants in these mountains.
The moment the detector was activated, Ye Feng detected something unusual.
“What’s wrong?” Long Tian and Pearl quickly noticed the slight change in Ye Feng’s expression.
“There’s a place where magical beasts are extremely concentrated—nearly 90% of them are gathered there in this entire mountain,” Ye Feng explained the reason behind his change in expression.
“Could it be a giant energy ore vein?” Long Tian’s first reaction was to make such a guess.
“It’s very likely that something is manipulating things from behind—could there be some extremely powerful beings?” Pearl’s explanation seemed more reasonable.
“The three strongest magical beasts are only at the demi-god level; they shouldn’t be powerful enough to intimidate other magical beasts and prevent them from escaping,” Ye Feng shook his head. “Let’s go and see what’s going on.”
The three of them rushed toward the location indicated by Ye Feng’s detector. The forest was dead silent, with no obstacles encountered at all, which made things even more strange.
Fortunately, it took only a short while for them to reach the location shown by the detector. They concealed their presence and observed the herd less than 300 meters away.
“This is… a lake?” Ye Feng was somewhat surprised.
What appeared before them was a lake—more precisely, a lake of normal size, similar in area to ordinary lakes on Earth, with a diameter of just a few hundred meters and an irregular shape.
Yet around this seemingly unremarkable lake lived nearly 100,000 magical beasts of different races and cultivation levels.
The magical beasts here seemed to be in a utopia free from conflict, strolling leisurely, with many even sleeping with their bellies exposed.
“What’s going on?” Long Tian and Pearl were also stunned.
“I’m not sure, but preliminarily, there might be something wrong with the water!” Ye Feng offered his guess.
“Shouldn’t magical beasts all be savage by nature?” Pearl couldn’t help but ask. “How can these beings of different races coexist peacefully?”
“Look at that big cat and that big rat lying together in the sun over there!” Long Tian suddenly pointed in a direction as if he’d discovered something new.
“That’s a Cloud-Clad Leopard and a Earth Demon Rat,” Ye Feng said helplessly. “But these two species should be natural enemies—how can they get along?”
“It’s possible the water is problematic; or maybe there’s some monster in the lake that controls the magical beasts’ minds,” Pearl concluded after hearing Ye Feng’s words.
“There are no powerful creatures in this lake,” Ye Feng shook his head. Both his mental detection and the detector showed the same result.
“Then it must be the water that’s the problem!” Long Tian added.
“It’s possible there’s something else in the lake…” Ye Feng frowned slightly, understanding the principle that something unusual must hide behind it. “I’ll suppress them first, then we’ll go to the lake to take a look.”
Without waiting for Long Tian and Zhenzhu to react, Ye Feng dashed out at full speed.
He hovered in the air, exuding a powerful aura. His soul strength, at the peak of a divine level, pressed down on all the magical beasts below, preventing them from moving.
Even Long Tian and Zhenzhu, hidden in the woods, were shocked. It was the first time they had seen Ye Feng use his full strength, and the mental pressure from his soul was incredibly strong. Although they had always known Ye Feng was powerful, experiencing it up close was a completely different matter. Fortunately, the pressure wasn’t directed at them, so they weren’t greatly affected.
The two rushed out of the woods and headed straight for the lake, while Ye Feng slowly landed on the ground and appeared by the lake.
Ye Feng scooped up a handful of lake water and put it in his mouth.
A sweet taste spread across his tongue. The water stayed in his mouth for a moment before going down his throat. Ye Feng could sense a strange energy within it.
“We still don’t know what’s going on. How can you drink it?” Zhenzhu frowned.
“It’s fine. This lake water doesn’t disrupt the mind. It does contain a special energy that can calm one’s mind…” After savoring it, Ye Feng came to this conclusion.
“You mean this lake water isn’t only safe but also beneficial?” Zhenzhu looked incredulous.
“That’s right. But I still want to dive to the bottom of the lake to investigate. I have a feeling the changes in this lake water aren’t natural.” Ye Feng nodded.
Seeing that Long Tian also wanted to drink the water, Zhenzhu grabbed his hand holding the water. “Let’s not drink it yet. We’ll decide after checking the bottom of the lake.”
“Alright!” Although reluctant, Long Tian obeyed Zhenzhu given her cautious expression.
“Let’s go!” Ye Feng said before diving into the lake.
Long Tian glanced at Zhenzhu and followed suit.
Zhenzhu frowned, her eyes filled with worry. After seeing Long Tian disappear, she shook her head helplessly and followed him in.
