Chapter 335: Be My Wife
On the three-dimensional projection, a small green insect took advantage of everyone’s distraction to sneak into the witchcraft material warehouse. It went straight to the display cabinet at the back of the warehouse and slowly transformed into a human shape.
The human form that appeared was none other than Ye Feng.
Long Xuan gave Ye Feng beside her a peculiar look but said nothing.
On the screen, Ye Feng quickly formed seals with his hands and then spat out a ball of flame to ignite the items in the display cabinet. After confirming that the fire had spread, he turned back into a small green insect and left secretly.
“This guy really isn’t giving up. After framing the Third Elder, he’s trying to frame me now,” Ye Feng said with a helpless sigh.
“He did it on purpose,” Long Xuan said, glancing at Ye Feng. “There are memory crystals in the witchcraft material warehouse for surveillance. Once the fire is out, if we check the memory crystals, everyone will think you’re the killer. We all know the memory crystals can’t be tampered with, but we’re not sure about your mirror device.”
Just then, Long Xuan’s communicator rang.
“Long Ling, how’s it going? Is that guy in the library real?” Long Xuan asked.
“He’s real. I pretended to be there to look up information and accidentally ran into him. I chatted with him briefly and asked some tricky questions about worms, and he answered them all. His speech pattern and habits are all his,” Long Ling replied, somewhat unexpectedly.
Long Xuan looked up at Ye Feng. “So, he’s still in the Black Witch Clan’s gathering place and hasn’t come here.”
“What’s he waiting for?” Ye Feng frowned. After a while, he suddenly slapped his head. “I get it. He doesn’t want to come out during the time we spend putting out the fire… He’s waiting until you get the memory crystals and think I’m the killer, so that attention is diverted… That way, no one will pay attention to his presence, as everyone’s focus will be on investigating the fire and the killer.”
“A joint interrogation!” Long Xuan frowned tightly. “He’s waiting for the memory crystals to be examined by Wu Ze and the others, then holding a joint interrogation session. All the high-ranking members of the Black Witch Clan will attend, including me and Long Ling. That way, he can create an avatar to stay at the scene while he comes here to make a deal. Since each joint interrogation takes at least two hours, he’ll have plenty of time to do whatever he wants.”
“Since that’s the case, inform Wu Ze and the others to start the interrogation right away!” Ye Feng’s lips curled slightly. “If he wants to play, we’ll play along with him to the end.”
“But if we conduct a joint interrogation, no one is allowed to come in or out casually during it,” Long Xuan frowned.
“We can use clones to create a fake joint interrogation!” Ye Feng smiled. “It’s not just him who knows how to create clones. If he tries to trick us with clones, we’ll use the same trick to defeat him.”
“You know how to create clones too?” Long Xuan was surprised.
“Of course!” As soon as Ye Feng finished speaking, another identical person appeared beside him.
“It seems this really works!” Long Xuan laughed. “Let Wu Ze preside over this fake meeting. Everyone in the Black Witch Clan knows he can’t create clones. With him there, that guy will lower his guard.”
Long Xuan’s communicator rang again. “How’s things on your end? The fire’s out here, and the memory crystal isn’t damaged. We’ll figure out who the killer is.”
“That guy hasn’t shown up yet. He’s waiting for us to hold the joint meeting.” Long Xuan then explained the whole situation and the plan Ye Feng had suggested.
“I get it. I’ll stay behind, and you all use clones! I’ll make this fake meeting look legitimate so he thinks he has a chance.” Wu Ze’s voice carried a hint of mockery. “Since he wants to play, we’ll play along with him to the end. Now send your clones back! I’ll have Long Ling and Wu Kuang’s true selves head over to you.”
After hanging up, Long Xuan looked at Ye Feng. “Did you hear everything?”
“Let’s get started!” Ye Feng nodded. His clones rushed toward the gathering place of the Black Witch Clan, followed by Long Xuan’s clones.
“Let’s rest for a while. After all these days of hard work, things will finally resolve today.” Long Xuan casually leaped onto the trunk of a large tree and sat down.
“Actually, I’ve always had a question for you. A smart woman like you—why would you choose a battle-obsessed man like Wu Kuang?” Ye Feng also sat not far away, asking casually.
“It’s simple. He doesn’t play tricks on me. I don’t need to be wary of him and can trust him completely. Perhaps that’s what humans call giving me a sense of security.”
“I’ve only known him for a short time—just a few hundred years,” Long Xuan laughed. “I still remember the day we met at an ancient Black Witch Clan site.”
“I went there just to look for any treasures, while he was there to collect things lost by the Dark Witch tribe. We both found a ring at the same time, and I snatched it away. But he wouldn’t give up easily and kept chasing after me, demanding the ring back, saying it was a relic of their ancestors.”
“How could I just let go of something I wanted? So I gave him a good beating,” Long Xuan said, unable to help but laugh. “But he still wouldn’t stop. Every time I beat him, he would catch up to me and chase me all the way to the Dragon tribe’s territory.”
“I thought he would give up, but unexpectedly, he recklessly invaded our Dragon tribe’s territory. According to our tribal laws, such an act deserves death. He was captured and locked up in our dragon dungeon.”
“Since I was the cause of this incident, I felt uneasy and went to visit him. I asked why he was willing to risk his life for a ring. He said the ring had been left behind during the Dark Witch tribe’s migrations. Since they had migrated several times, he didn’t know exactly where it had fallen. He had been searching for it all these years. The ring was a family heirloom, a token of engagement given by a man to a woman. He told me that without it, he couldn’t marry… Hehehe…” Thinking of this, Long Xuan laughed again.
“That day, we talked until late at night through the bars of the dungeon.” Long Xuan seemed to be back in that day. “He wasn’t very talkative and sometimes spoke incoherently. I mostly led the conversation, asking questions and getting answers. I asked him many questions, and his answers helped me understand him better. So that night, I made a bold decision. I told the clan leader that I wanted to marry this man, because only that way could I save his life.”
“The next morning, I went to the dungeon and told him. But he shook his head, saying he couldn’t marry me. I asked why, and he said it was a deal, not love—he wanted love.”
“Since persuasion didn’t work, in a fit of anger, I moved into the dungeon and lived with him. He was surprised by my actions. I told him I liked him and that I wouldn’t leave until he liked me too.”
“We spent a month like that, and eventually I fell ill due to my body not adapting to such harsh conditions. His initially respectful and distant attitude toward me began to soften, and he started taking care of me. After about twenty days, my health finally improved. He asked me to return his ring; he was still thinking about it, which almost made me cry in anger. I took off the ring and threw it at him. To my surprise, after catching it, he brought it back to me and directly said, ‘Be my wife!’”
