Chapter 322: Immortal or Demigod?
A few minutes passed, and the wound on the screen finally revealed its true form—it was clearly caused by a long sword.
The Second Elder examined it carefully. “The wound on the screen is somewhat strange…”
“How so?” Ye Feng asked curiously.
“It seems to have been cut from inside the room!” The Second Elder frowned. “The wound on the inner wall of the seal is wider than that on the outer wall. You can see the starting point at the top and the ending point at the bottom most clearly.”
Ye Feng took a closer look and indeed found it as the Second Elder said—the wound on the seal was peculiar. “That means the other party cut through the seal from inside the room. This also proves they entered openly; cutting this opening was just to deceive us.”
“That’s the only explanation for now!” The Second Elder nodded. “A seal set up with the Great Elder’s strength would prevent even Wu Ze and Wu Kuang from slipping in without leaving any trace. Since there’s only this one wound, the only explanation is that they entered through the main gate.”
“Guard, who came in today?” The Second Elder called the guard at the door over. “We need a list of everyone, especially those who came in during the time when the Great Elder and Wu Kuang were fighting.”
The guard scratched his head. “Only you guys have been here today. No one else.”
“Are you sure?” The Second Elder frowned slightly.
“Could you give us more detailed information?” Ye Feng pressed.
“Mr. Dao Feng, along with Wu Kuang and Wu Tian, have been inside these days. They only left after the Great Elder woke up to watch the fight.”
“Then Mr. Dao Feng came in and left in a hurry.”
“After that, Mr. Dao Feng brought in the Third Elder and Wu Tian. Not long after, the Third Elder left, and then Mr. Dao Feng left too.”
“Finally, you guys all came in…” The guard remembered quite clearly.
“It seems that the only ones with independent time to act are Dao Feng and Wu Tian…” The Third Elder looked at them regretfully.
“This matter isn’t as simple as we thought,” Ye Feng shook his head. “We must have missed something. It can’t have been me or Xiao Tian who took it.”
“Let’s put this aside for now. We’ll discuss it again when the clan leader returns,” the Third Elder said helplessly, shaking his head.
“That’s good too; after all, the truth cannot be hidden.” The Second Elder nodded as well. “However, I have a spell that can detect whether any of you are hiding the corpses of those threeGu worms worms. If everyone doesn’t mind, I’ll use this spell on everyone here, including myself!”
“Why didn’t you mention this spell earlier?” Ye Feng seemed somewhat eager.
“TheseGu worms worms are a branch of the corpse-eatingGu worms worms,” the Second Elder said, spreading his palm. Inside it were four small, flesh-colored insects that were wriggling slowly. “But they only eat the corpses of otherGu worms worms, so they’re particularly sensitive to dead ones.”
Ye Feng felt disgusted looking at those insect-sized creatures, which clearly resembled maggots, only larger in size.
“Now, spread out your palms—either one will do!” the Second Elder reached out.
Ye Feng reluctantly extended his hand.
“If you’re hiding the corpse of theGu worms king, they’ll crawl to the corresponding spot along your arm. Even if it’s hidden in a storage ring, they can sense it and settle on top of it,” the Second Elder explained.
With that, he placed three of theGu worms worms in each of their palms.
TheGu worms worm in Ye Feng’s palm circled once before stopping motionless. The Second Elder took it back and nodded at him, “There’s none on Dao Feng.”
Soon, theGu worms worms in Wu Tian and the Third Elder’s palms also became still, and the Second Elder retrieved them as well.
The same happened with theGu worms worm in his own palm. Thus, none of the four were hiding the corpse of theGu worms king.
“It seems we won’t be able to find the killer in the short term,” the Second Elder said, taking back theGu worms worms. “We’ll have to wait until the clan leader and the others return!”
After giving orders to the guards not to let anyone enter or leave the Elder’s house, the four returned to the battlefield where the Elder and Wu Kuang were fighting.
“When did their fight start?” The Elder looked confused, clearly unaware of what had happened.
“This morning, not long after everyone finished breakfast!” Ye Feng asked curiously, “With such a big commotion, didn’t you notice anything at all?”
“The restrictions within the library block out all external disturbances, ensuring that those who enter it can enjoy the best reading environment. Although the struggle between Witch Mad and the Elder Leader is intense, the sounds of the battle can reach every corner of the Black Witch Clan, but they are blocked by the restrictions inside the library,” explained Wu Tian beside them.
“I entered the library early in the morning, so I wasn’t aware of this,” nodded the Second Elder as well.
“I see!” Ye Feng finally understood why the Second Elder hadn’t shown up despite such intense fighting. But he was also puzzled. “The guards said the Second Elder goes to the library every day these days. Is he looking for some information?”
“Mm, I was worried that your method wouldn’t work, so I was searching for a backup solution. Now that we know the name and characteristics of that parasite, finding its weakness shouldn’t be too difficult,” nodded the Second Elder. “We couldn’t find a solution before because we didn’t even know what was wrong with our bodies. Thankfully, you helped us identify the cause. The Black Witch Clan has many books; maybe there are records of this parasite. Once we find that information and know its weakness, even if we can’t solve it right away, we will eventually find a way!”
“That makes sense. Solutions are created by people,” Ye Feng said with a smile. He didn’t mention that he was 100% confident in solving this crisis. “It’s good to have a backup plan, but it’s still best if my method works!”
“Your method?” the Second Elder replied irritably. “Those three Gu King corpses have already been stolen. Do you expect us to get three more for you? Remember, we’ve already made an exception once. The rules of the Black Witch Clan aren’t something that can be changed at will.”
“Second Elder, don’t worry too much,” Ye Feng said helplessly, spreading his hands. “Anyway, our clan leader will be back in a few days. This matter will eventually be resolved.”
“Let’s hope so!” The Second Elder wasn’t expecting Ye Feng to be so calm. He didn’t know what to say for a moment.
Above, the battle between the two continued. Ye Feng looked up at the sky, while the others were filled with frustration.
“It’s too fast!” the Second Elder said grimly. “I can only faintly see silhouettes; I can’t see any movements at all.”
“I can’t even see any silhouettes…” Wu Tian beside him seemed even more frustrated.
The Third Elder also had a furrowed brow, clearly not in a better situation.
Only Ye Feng’s gaze remained fixed on the two of them, capturing every move they made.
“Mr. Blade, can you see their movements clearly?” The Second Elder quickly noticed Ye Feng’s actions.
Ye Feng smiled and nodded without saying a word. Instead, Wu Tian interjected, “Mr. Blade has hidden his true strength; he is actually at the semi-god level. In two days, when our father is exhausted, Mr. Blade has agreed to step in and help.”
Hearing this, the Second Elder’s gaze toward Ye Feng changed instantly. Their Black Witch clan valued the strong, and he had previously dismissed Ye Feng as just a lowly immortal-level novice. In his eyes, such a weakling couldn’t be very good at anything else, so he had never really trusted Ye Feng. Now that he learned Ye Feng had been hiding his strength all along, his face flushed with embarrassment.
After all, semi-god-level warriors were few and far between in the entire celestial realm—they were among the pinnacle beings there. And according to what Wu Tian had said, Wu Kuang could only hold out for three days in front of the First Elder. Since Ye Feng had agreed to take on this task, it meant he would have to fend for himself for the remaining six days until Wu Ze and the others returned. In other words, Ye Feng’s true strength was even greater than Wu Kuang’s. It seemed that within the Black Witch clan, only the First Elder might be stronger than him.
Ye Feng had no intention of explaining anything. Of course, he wouldn’t reveal his secrets so easily, and the fewer people who knew his true strength, the better. Besides, the more he explained at this moment, the more questions others would have. Silence was the best answer.
“I’m ashamed to admit it, but I always thought Mr. Blade was only at the immortal level. I truly neglected him before.” The Second Elder immediately changed his attitude. After all, it was best to make as many connections as possible with semi-god-level warriors—this would only bring benefits to the development of the Black Witch clan, with no drawbacks.
“Elder Two, there’s no need for this. Actually, my cultivation method is somewhat special. It’s not that I deliberately hide my strength; it just naturally shows itself like this. My true strength only reveals itself when I take action, so it’s understandable if you misunderstand.” Ye Feng waved his hand, shifting the blame to his cultivation method, making it difficult for the other party to ask further. After all, the secrets of one’s cultivation method are extremely private matters, and even close friends rarely inquire about them.
“I see.” Elder Two awkwardly touched his beard. Though curious about Ye Feng’s cultivation method, he felt too embarrassed to ask further. He simply smiled and said, “In that case, quite a few people will suffer at the hands of Brother Blade Edge…”
“Yes!” Ye Feng nodded with a mischievous smile, but no one knew what he was actually laughing about at that moment…
