Chapter 201: Conversation
Meeting that old man at the inn gave Ye Feng a sense of unease—a feeling that things were out of control. He never expected to encounter such a skilled opponent on Agri Planet.
A Scattered Immortal is one who turns to this path after failing to overcome the Heavenly Calamity. They need many rare materials to merge with their Yuan Ying and transform into a physical form. Thus, under normal circumstances, Scattered Immortals are extremely rare in the entire cultivation world. Yet, on his first encounter with one, Ye Feng ran into someone whose strength rivaled that of an immortal. He knew he had no chance against such a powerful foe.
He recalled the old man’s gaze toward him—mixed with curiosity and surprise. Clearly, the old man already knew he was only at the Divided Mind stage. Moreover, he likely could also detect the true strength of the two beasts hiding his own abilities.
“Just run away?” Ye Feng frowned, unsure what to do. If he left now without settling his hotel bill, the old man would surely suspect something was amiss. Fleeing in panic on the first day they arrived must mean he had done something shameful.
“Or pretend I don’t know their strength and stay?” Ye Feng struggled between these two options. There was definitely risk involved, as he still didn’t understand the old man’s motives. If the old man was after him specifically, returning would be like walking into a trap.
“Never mind. Pei Hong has already reached the Outward Emergence stage, and that guy from the Weapon Crafting sect who was spying on me has also disappeared. I should go see Pei Hong first.” Ye Feng remembered that his main purpose for this trip was to see Pei Hong.
As early as when he got up that morning, his detector had shown that Pei Hong had ended his seclusion, and the spy from the Weapon Crafting sect had vanished. So he decided to meet Pei Hong, who had made progress. But after encountering the old man, he almost forgot his purpose.
After a quick journey, Ye Feng soon arrived at the inn where he and Pei Hong had stayed. Worried that Ye Feng wouldn’t be able to find him, Pei Hong had stayed there the whole time without leaving.
When Ye Feng appeared before him, Pei Hong finally breathed a sigh of relief. On this planet, almost anyone he met on the streets was a powerful being at the Outward Emergence or Divided Mind stage, which made him feel insecure.
“You’ve finally ended your seclusion!” Ye Feng laughed heartily.
“It doesn’t take much time to make breakthroughs; it’s mainly consolidating one’s cultivation level that takes a long time!” Pei Hong shook his head with a wry smile. “My cultivation level at the Outward Emergence stage is still too low!”
“I have something good for you,” Ye Feng said as he took out a photon cannon from the virtual realm, added Pei Hong as an authorized user, and handed it to him.
“What is this?” Pei Hong asked, puzzled.
“A photon cannon, a technological weapon!” Ye Feng smiled. “With your cultivation level at the Outward Emergence stage, this is enough to instantly kill a cultivator at the Combined Stage.”
“You’re not joking, are you?” Pei Hong thought Ye Feng was mocking him.
“I have no need to lie to you. You should know that I killed a vampire baron not long after I started my journey. That guy was at the Condensed Pill stage, while I was still at the Postnatal Warrior stage. I used this very thing back then!” Ye Feng pointed at the photon cannon borrowed by Pei Hong. “I also used it to confront Nikola at the Condensed Pill stage!”
Hearing this, Pei Hong nodded hesitantly. “So you’re saying this thing can help you kill enemies across two cultivation levels?”
“That’s the case before reaching the Outward Emergence stage!” Ye Feng nodded. “Its maximum attack power is only enough to kill cultivators at the Combined Stage. But those at the Outward Emergence stage can use it. Besides, I no longer need it now!”
“You can already kill cultivators at the Combined Stage?” Pei Hong asked cautiously.
“I can already kill cultivators at the Tribulation Stage…” Ye Feng corrected him.
“Oh.” Hearing this, Pei Hong was completely shocked. He never expected Ye Feng’s growth to be so rapid.
“You don’t need to be upset. My physique is special, and to some extent, I’m also lucky!” Ye Feng smiled.
“Should we leave now?” Pei Hong finally composed himself and looked up at Ye Feng.
“No, stay here for a couple of days. Something has come up on my end. I don’t know what the situation is right now! I’ll handle it first and let you know when it’s done. I came today because I saw you had emerged from seclusion, so I wanted to check on you!” Ye Feng’s expression darkened as he spoke about this.
“What’s the matter? Is it serious?” Pei Hong rarely saw Ye Feng look like this. He knew what it meant.
“He’s a highly skilled immortal who happens to be staying in the room next to mine. I don’t know what his purpose for coming here is.” Ye Feng didn’t hide this fact.
“Do you think he’s after you?” Pei Hong guessed based on Ye Feng’s expression.
“It’s just a suspicion. After all, such strong individuals are rare, and these past two days I’ve indeed killed a guy with some status…” Ye Feng frowned.
“You left traces? Did he manage to track you?” Pei Hong pressed further.
“I didn’t leave any traces. Besides, it’s a desert—even if I missed something, it would have been covered by the sand long ago.” Ye Feng shook his head.
“Then why worry? Just act like you know nothing!” Pei Hong suggested. “You know he’s staying next to you. You must have seen him before, right? Does he know you live next to him?”
“I have! He also saw me coming out of my room.”
“If that’s the case, you can’t leave yet. If you leave rashly, he’ll surely suspect you’re leaving because of his presence—that would show guilt, and then he’ll really cause you trouble.”
“Alright.” Ye Feng decided to follow Pei Hong’s advice.
After leaving Pei Hong’s inn, Ye Feng returned to his own inn with the two beasts.
The newly arrived old man next door gave him a slight nod as he passed by his door. Ye Feng was momentarily stunned, then forced a smile and nodded back.
Just as he was about to reach his own door, he heard the old man’s voice, “Young man, I was wondering if you have time to chat with an old man like me?”
Ye Feng hesitated for a moment before nodding and turning back to the old man’s door.
“Come in and sit! I have no ill intentions; I’m just interested in your two spirit beasts,” the old man said with a smile.
“Oh!” Ye Feng still didn’t dare relax his vigilance, but his expression became much less stiff than before. “I wonder what the old man wants to ask?”
“My name is Makas. I’ve raised many kinds of magical beasts, but I’ve never seen these two on your shoulders before.” Makas observed the two small beasts on Ye Feng’s shoulders carefully.
“Could you tell me where you caught these spirit beasts?” Makas pressed further.
“I’m not quite sure. I didn’t capture these two myself; someone gave them to me!” Ye Feng made up a casual lie.
“Given by someone else? Giving away these two spiritual beasts is truly a generous act!” Makas couldn’t help but exclaim. “Then do you know what these two spiritual beasts actually are?”
“I’m not sure,” Ye Feng pretended to look a bit embarrassed and shook his head.
“Young man, it seems you don’t pay much attention to your pets!” Makas smiled at Ye Feng. “One more thing—your true cultivation level should be in the later stage of Divination, right?”
“How did you know?” Although Ye Feng already knew the other party had seen through him, he still pretended to be surprised.
“Could you tell me why you pretended to be a powerful being in the Tribulation stage?” Makas pressed further.
“The reason is simple. Agri Planet is the most chaotic place in the Flowing Clouds Star Region. By pretending to be a powerful being in the Tribulation stage, ordinary people won’t come to cause trouble,” Ye Feng explained part of the reason.
“But in that case, you might face challenges from other powerful beings in the Tribulation stage!” Makas said with a smile.
“I won’t accept such challenges!” Ye Feng replied matter-of-factly.
Hearing Ye Feng’s answer, Makas shook his head amusedly. “Well, you do have the right to refuse…”
“Elder, you’ve asked me so many questions. It shouldn’t be a problem if I ask you one or two, right?” Ye Feng looked at Makas expectantly.
“Oh, what questions do you have?” Makas raised his eyebrows. He hadn’t expected the other party to ask him questions.
“The two guys in black who came with you seem very powerful. You must belong to some major sect,” Ye Feng said with a smile.
“We’re from the Beast Taming Sect!” Makas didn’t hide the sect he belonged to.
“The Beast Taming Sect?! The one that ranks third in the entire cultivation world?” This time, Ye Feng’s surprise was genuine—he really hadn’t expected them to be from the Beast Taming Sect.
“In the entire cultivation world, there’s only our sect called the Beast Taming Sect!” Makas nodded.
“I remember that the Beast Taming Sect doesn’t seem to have any branches on Agri Planet. Did you come here on a mission?” Ye Feng tried to get more information.
“It doesn’t hurt to tell you. One of our disciples from the Beast Taming Sect was killed, and we suspect the murderer is on Agri Planet! We’re still investigating, but we haven’t found any clues yet.”
“Someone actually dares to attack people from your Beast Taming Sect?” Ye Feng looked utterly astonished.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of in matters like this!” Makas shook his head, a hint of desolation in his eyes.
Ye Feng clearly noticed Makas’ expression and sighed lightly, “I hope you can find the killer soon!”
