Chapter 122: Misunderstanding

After leaving the airport in City H, Ye Feng got into a taxi. Once inside, he frowned slightly, looking pensive.
Since leaving Canada, Ye Feng had been pondering various questions. He had visited Nikola’s missing bedroom. Although he wasn’t warmly welcomed, the butler still allowed him in.
In Nikola’s bedroom, he found no signs of struggle. He also asked the butler and servants, who all said they hadn’t heard any unusual noises from the room.
So, there were only two possible explanations for Nikola’s disappearance: either he left on his own, or he was taken away by someone he knew well, without any chance to resist or call for help.
In Ye Feng’s opinion, the first possibility was unlikely, as Nikola’s injuries couldn’t have healed in just a day or two. Even given ten days or half a month, it was uncertain whether he could fully recover.
Ye Feng was well aware that the lightning power contained in Long Tian’s attacks couldn’t be easily dispelled, and its strength far surpassed that of attacks from equally powerful opponents.
Nikola’s condition—being able to survive at all—was already the limit of his body’s endurance. It was impossible for him to participate in the attack on the Ghost Market the day after their return, let alone hunt down that Yuan Ying-stage demon wolf before that.
But if it was indeed the second scenario, then the clues ran out, as Ye Feng had no way of knowing who had taken Nikola. There was no useful information left in Nikola’s room.
“We’re here!” The car slowed down and finally stopped outside a residential compound.
Hearing the driver’s voice, Ye Feng snapped out of his thoughts, paid the fare, and got out of the car.
……
Late at night, a man with a small mustache on his upper lip was hanging upside down from a large tree, quietly watching a young blond girl through a transparent glass window. He stuck out his tongue and licked his blood-red lips.
Suddenly, his phone in his pocket vibrated. He immediately turned over, hid behind the tree’s branches, and answered the call.
“My lord the Count…” A panicked female voice came through the phone.

“Eileen, didn’t I already warn you that during my absence, unless it’s an emergency that could cost a life, you’re not allowed to disturb me? Just leave anything to Edward!” The young man’s tone clearly showed displeasure; he recognized it as Eileen, his household chef’s voice.
“Lord Count… Lord Edward… he… he was killed…” A broken voice came through the phone as Eileen sobbed, “And Miss Angel… she was killed too…”
“What?” The young man exclaimed in shock. “What exactly happened?”
“I don’t know. I came to prepare dinner at the usual time. When I reached near the door today, I saw many police cars. The gate was also broken…” Eileen explained, “The police have sealed off the scene and wouldn’t let me in, but I saw them carrying out the bodies. Miss Angel had her head cut off, and Lord Edward had his heart removed. When I told them I was the chef here, they only let me take a quick look at their faces to confirm their identities.”
“Are there any clues about the killer?” the young man, called the Count, asked calmly.
“The neighbors said they saw an Eastern man visiting today. He seemed very young, around twenty. That Eastern man came once early in the morning; Lord Edward received him then, and he left. But less than an hour later, he returned without saying anything, pushed the door open right away. The second time he went in, he came out in less than a minute and left by taxi.”
“After he left, the gate was only half closed. Someone noticed something was wrong, pushed the door open, and saw the bodies of the two lying on the floor. They immediately called the police!” Eileen relayed what she had heard to the young man.
“An Eastern man? Why did he go back?” Dracula frowned, puzzled by this.
“Maybe he left something behind—something that could identify him. So he rushed back before anyone else found out,” Eileen suggested.
“That’s possible!” The young man nodded. “He realized he had lost something after leaving, so he rushed back to get it. It might have fallen during the fight, and he didn’t notice at first.”

“The surveillance footage from the living room should show his face clearly! Take some pictures and send them to my phone! Let me see who dares to provoke me like this. I’ll find him and make him pay back double!” The young count spoke in a somewhat icy tone.

After a while, a voice came through the phone, “Count… sir… the surveillance footage from today is missing?”

“Damn it, that man was clearly prepared for this,” the young man cursed angrily. “It must be a deliberate attempt against me… Who could it be? I haven’t caused any trouble lately…”

“A neighbor came by just now and told the police that he secretly filmed the murderer leaving for the second time. He said he saw the Eastern man break in and guessed something bad would happen, so he took secret photos when the man left a second time.” Eileen on the other end finally calmed down a bit. “I’ll get those photos from him and send them to you, Count!”

“Okay, I’m heading to the airport now. First, confirm for me which country the murderer is from! Let me know if there’s any other news as well.” A fierce glint appeared in Dracula’s eyes.

After hanging up, he glanced back at the woman who was bent over the desk, writing something with a pen, then turned and left…
