Chapter 857: Island of Separation from Magic
Faster than expected, it took just over thirty days to locate that floating island amidst the vast chaos. Compared to the planet-sized void rocks in the Origin Magic Realm, this island was much smaller. From hundreds of thousands of miles away, Su Che estimated its surface area to be less than 10,000 square miles using his divine sense. That wasn’t actually small—some large countries in the mortal world had similar sizes. However, the entire island was enveloped in a strange energy that prevented his divine sense from penetrating it. Not only could he not see those fierce magical beasts, but he couldn’t even observe the thousands-of-zhang-tall Primordial Divine Tree. Su Che wasn’t surprised by this; he had already known these details through the soul memories of the tiger-patterned monster.
“This island is called ‘Island of Separation from Magic’ by some chaos travelers, and that Primordial Divine Tree is known as the ‘Chaos Separation Divine Tree.’ The fruits it bears are called Chaos Separation Amethyst Fruits,” Su Che explained to Tian Yin and Lao He. “According to the memories of the tiger-patterned monster, there are always groups of chaos travelers wandering around the island—sometimes a dozen, sometimes dozens more. They’re all here looking for opportunities to obtain those Chaos Separation Amethyst Fruits… We need to be prepared; we’ll definitely encounter them upon arriving.”
Lao He then asked, “These old guys have lived for countless years, with cultivation levels of at least several hundred billion years. Why would they care about a mere few tens of millions of years of power gained from an amethyst fruit?”
Tian Yin remained silent; she roughly knew the answer to this question. Su Che explained, “Each traveler is a peak warrior from their own universe. After entering chaos, their life goals inevitably change. I guess most of them desire to create their own universe in chaos, but it’s not as easy as it seems. To create a new world in chaos, many conditions must be met. The sublimation and evolution of energy within the creator is one such condition.”
“Sublimation and evolution of energy?” Lao He seemed to understand a bit.
Su Che continued, “As for me, I already possess the Immortal Prison World. Creating a true universe in chaos is much easier for me than for others—I just need to release the Immortal Prison World. Of course, my internal energy also needs to be sublimated and evolved. There’s no need to elaborate further on the importance of those Chaos Separation Amethyst Fruits.”
“But are you really willing to release the Immortal Prison World?” Old Black’s split soul had taken possession of the tiger-striped monster’s body, but even while asking the question, he couldn’t resist scratching his forehead. He thought that the Immortal Prison World was much safer inside the pagoda; releasing it into chaos meant it would have to face threats from other powerful beings there, such as the Origin Demons who specialized in destroying worlds. Su Che replied, “That’s precisely the purpose of the Immortal Prison Pagoda. We can’t simply ignore its ultimate goals and desires just to keep it forever. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with evolving into a true universe world.” “I still think maintaining the status quo is good enough…” Old Black muttered softly. Old Black had always been unreservedly on Su Che’s side; he didn’t care about whatever goals or desires the pagoda might have. His view was simple: magic artifacts exist to serve their masters—nothing more complicated than that. Just then, Xiao He suddenly transmitted a message to Su Che, “Father, someone is coming.” Su Che became alert. A few breaths later, through his spiritual sense, he detected a figure flying toward him from a distance of a million miles. It was clear that not only did Xiao He have superior detection skills in chaos, but the person approaching quickly also did. “Someone is coming,” Su Che immediately informed Tian Yin and Old Black, telling them to prepare for any surprises. It was hard to say who or what they might encounter—the other party might fly over and attack without saying a word. Fortunately, the person stopped after tens of thousands of miles and sent a mental message, “Sir, may I come over?” Compared to the tiger-striped monster they had met earlier, this was quite polite. “Sure, come ahead,” Su Che replied with a mental message of his own. Whoosh! The person appeared thousands of feet away at almost instant speed. For a complete stranger, that distance was as close as face-to-face. Compared to normal humans, this person was much smaller, less than five feet tall, with two fluffy large ears on top of his head—triangular, like a fox’s ears. He had thin arms and legs, but a large head, along with a round tail even bigger than his head—nothing but a big furry ball.
Her facial features were extremely adorable, like those of a porcelain doll. Especially her eyes, half-open and half-closed, as if she had just been pulled out of bed and wasn’t fully awake yet.
“Haha, that’s fun!”
Lao He immediately exclaimed, “This little guy is so cute! Is he also a Chaos Traveler?”
Tian Yin nodded silently, admitting to herself that he was indeed incredibly adorable.
However, everyone knew that any Chaos Traveler could be countless times older than them.
You can’t judge by appearance, especially in this chaos.
It’s inevitable that beings from different universes have different appearances. Whether they look cute or terrifying has nothing to do with their strength.
Although the little guy across from them didn’t understand what Lao He was saying, he could tell from his laughter that it was a reaction to his appearance. So he sent a mental message asking, “Four friends, is there something wrong?”
His tone clearly showed displeasure, so Su Che quickly explained, “I’m sorry. We mean no harm. The moment we saw you, we thought you were extremely cute, which gave us an overwhelming sense of affinity.”
“Cute?”
The person was slightly stunned before replying, “Is that your concept of beauty? Other Chaos Travelers think I’m an utterly ugly little monster.”
Hearing this, Su Che wasn’t surprised. In different universes, standards of beauty inevitably vary greatly. What we consider beautiful, attractive, or cute might just be the most ugly and unattractive in the eyes of other travelers.
Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish…
Su Che conjured a mirror in front of him, showing images of children that best reflected the beauty standards of his universe, and said, “These represent what we understand as cute.”
“I see,” the person nodded. “So this is what your childhood looks like?”
“Yes,” Su Che nodded.
Surprisingly, this little incident subtly reduced the awkwardness between them. At least, the first impression was quite good.
“I’m Manzhi. What are your names?”
“I’m Su Che. She’s Tian Yin, he’s Lao He, and he’s Xiao He.”
After introducing themselves, the traveler named ‘Manzhi’ narrowed her sleepy eyes and pointed in a certain direction, asking, “Did you also come here for the Purple Crystal Fruit?”
“That’s right,” Su Che nodded in reply. “May I ask, how long have you been here?”
“Not long,” Manzi replied. “It’s less than three Chaos Eras.”
Based on the soul memories of the tiger-patterned monster, Su Che could calculate that one Chaos Era was roughly equivalent to 36,000 years in their universe.
The Chaos Era was a pattern of time identified by experienced travelers in the Chaos. Every so often, for some reason, the dense, mist-like Chaos energy would become much stronger, and this cycle was extremely regular and consistent.
Based on this pattern, the experienced travelers designated such a cycle as an era, and over time, this concept spread throughout the Chaos.
Manzi had been here for less than three Chaos Eras, which was about 100,000 years, but he considered it not long. This showed that this cute-looking “little guy” must be incredibly old—tens of thousands of years seemed like just a short few days to him.
This was the Chaos!
Once here, one could only adapt to it.
Su Che suppressed his various thoughts and asked again, “Manzi, have you gained anything during these three Chaos Eras?”
“Nothing at all.”
Manzi shook his head and sighed. His red little nose twitched involuntarily, giving off a strange feeling, as if snot might flow out at any moment.
“The magical beasts on the island are too fierce. I’ve tried to go there several times and almost lost my life each time. Eventually, I dared not enter alone anymore.”
It had to be admitted that his unique appearance made it hard for Su Che and the others to be fully vigilant. He was simply too cute, making people want to pick him up and tease him.
Of course, Xiao Hei was an exception.
Since gaining intelligence, Xiao Hei had been hunting around in the Chaos. In his mind, aside from Su Che, there were hardly any other emotions or preferences.
Su Che held back his laughter and asked seriously, “There are quite a few travelers in the vicinity. Haven’t you tried to cooperate with others to go to the island?”
“Of course I have,” Manzi replied. “But the threats they posed to me were even worse than those magical beasts. So, I’ve been looking for more trustworthy partners.”
Then his tone changed again: “But in this Chaos, finding someone trustworthy is far harder than finding a Chaos treasure.”
“Indeed!”
Suce nodded gently, then asked with a smile, “So, since you approached us on your own, you must be hoping that we are trustworthy partners, right? At least, for the time being.”
“I hope so.”
Manzi gestured with her thin, short arms, “I can see that the four of you have a very close relationship and can stand together without any defenses. This is extremely rare in the chaos, and it makes me very envious. That’s why I hope to join your team…”
