Chapter 91: The Angry Bird
Unable to move even a little, Ye Feng closed his eyes in despair. He was well aware of what would happen if Nikola bit his neck, and at this moment, he had no strength to resist.
Just as Nikola’s fangs were about to touch Ye Feng’s neck, a shrill scream made Nikola’s ears hurt, preventing him from biting.
Nikola looked around but saw no source for the sound. “What was that noise?”
At that moment, Ye Feng glanced sideways at the small object in his jacket pocket. He knew clearly that the sound had come from it. Although that scream had temporarily saved him from becoming a vampire, revealing it might attract Nikola’s attention, which was the last thing Ye Feng wanted.
After searching for a while with no result, Nikola decided to ignore it and once again extended his fangs toward Ye Feng’s carotid artery.
Suddenly, another sharp scream rang out, even louder than before. The pain from this scream made Nikola’s head ache.
He forced himself to stay calm, shook his head, and searched around again for the source of the sound. He knew that scream wasn’t ordinary—it could only be produced by someone skilled in mental attacks, capable of directly targeting one’s mind. The headache he felt was also not normal; it was caused by an external mental attack on his mind.
Vampires, who were not good at mental attacks, always feared those who were skilled in them. Vampires had long lifespans and almost immortal bodies, but their weak defense of the mind was their only flaw. Attacks on the mind could lead to madness or even death, which was what vampires feared the most.
In reality, few people could wield such mental attacks, which was why vampire warriors had remained arrogant to this day—they had few natural enemies.
After searching around, Nikola was surprised to find that Ye Feng seemed completely unbothered by the two screams, showing no signs of pain.
“Could it be this kid’s doing?” Nikola narrowed his eyes. Ye Feng had surprised him so much that he found it hard to accept everything at once.
“Hey, were those two mental attacks just now sent by you?” Nikola asked tentatively. Although those attacks weren’t strong, they were enough to make him wary. If the other party could launch even more powerful mental attacks, they would eventually penetrate his mind, something he didn’t want to happen. Faced with a hidden predator, Nikola had to stay alert.
“What mental attacks?” Ye Feng had heard the little creature’s two screams, but he wasn’t sure what Nikola meant by mental attacks.
“You don’t know?” Nikola raised his voice slightly.
At that moment, the little creature in Ye Feng’s pocket seemed to dislike Nikola’s voice and let out another sharp cry. The sound made Nikola’s head spin. Only then did he realize the sound was coming from Ye Feng. This time, he completely gave up the idea of turning Ye Feng into a vampire and tried to twist his neck with his left hand.
But before his hand could reach its target, he felt intense pain. In pain, he quickly pulled back his left hand, and Ye Feng took the opportunity to escape his control.
Nikola glanced at his left hand and saw that a piece of flesh had been torn off. He looked at Ye Feng, who was not far away, in surprise.
At that moment, the little creature was standing on Ye Feng’s shoulder, holding a piece of flesh in its beak and trying hard to swallow it, its eyes still closed.
Nikola stared curiously at the yellow chick on Ye Feng’s shoulder for a while before saying disdainfully, “So it’s just a young spiritual beast. I thought you could actually use mental attacks!”
Ye Feng didn’t reply. He didn’t think he could defeat a vampire count with the help of that little creature. No matter how strong it was, it had been born less than a day ago. Ye Feng was also juggling two tasks: searching for something useful in the Void Realm while thinking of a way to deal with the current situation.
“Break your contract with this spiritual beast and hand it over to me, and I’ll let you go!” Nikola offered a tempting but clearly unrealistic condition.
“Do you think I’m stupid? If I give you the spiritual beast, won’t you be able to catch me even easier and turn me into a vampire like you?” Under normal circumstances, Ye Feng would have ignored such a request, but now he needed to buy time to come up with a solution to the crisis at hand.
“You young man, how can you not understand? Vampires are a noble race. Your prejudice against us is entirely due to the malicious influence of those low-quality movies and TV shows. Once you become a vampire, you’ll realize that all your previous views were nothing but prejudice,” Nicholas retorted. “Besides, I, Nicholas, am a count. I swear by my title as a count—if you’re willing to break your contract with that spirit beast and hand it over to me, I’ll let you go!”
“That kind of oath holds no value at all. Everyone knows that vampire oaths only take effect when sworn to our ancestor Cain. So-called counts are merely a classification based on strength; there’s no real honor involved. You’re just trying to fool me!” Ye Feng exposed Nicholas’s scheme in one sentence.
“I see—you know quite a bit!” Nicholas flapped his black bat wings twice. “Since you’ve seen through me, it seems I’ll have to go hard!”
With a sudden burst of strength, Nicholas disappeared again. Ye Feng knew he was coming for him and dodged frantically with irregular steps.
Almost at the same time, the little creature perched on Ye Feng’s shoulder also began flapping its wings, emitting shrill cries desperately in a certain direction into the void!
To Nicholas, that sound was piercing and harsh, as if it were drilling through his eardrums straight into his mind, causing dizziness and pain. Moreover, this time the shrill cries continued without pause, driving Nicholas crazy.
“Shut up!” Disturbed by the little creature’s interference, Nicholas’s head grew dizzy, and his combat strength dropped significantly. He failed countless times in pursuing Ye Feng. Unable to tolerate it any longer, he finally let out a thunderous roar that completely drowned out the little creature’s voice. The roar soared into the sky and spread far and wide.
With its voice silenced, the little creature clearly became angry. Instead of just flapping its wings and screaming, it now jumped around as well. Although its sound remained harsh, it had taken on a different tone.
Nicholas was puzzled. Though the little creature’s cries were still shrill, there was no mental attack this time. He couldn’t understand why the creature, acting wildly, kept shouting angrily as if not at him.
Just as he was still wondering, the sky in the distance suddenly darkened. A dark mass, like black clouds, was covering this direction.
With the sound of wings flapping through the air and various chirps, Nikola immediately understood what the little creature had been doing. Ye Feng, on the other hand, looked up in shock at what was happening before him…
