Chapter 685: The Purpose of Existence
When he woke up, three days had passed.
Su Che jumped up from the soft bed, feeling refreshed once again. In fact, as an immortal, he didn’t need sleep at all—it was merely a form of mental relaxation.
The black giant remained suspended in place, not moving an inch. Having guarded this spot for tens of millions of years, three days meant little more than a blink of an eye to him.
Su Che asked directly, “Will you and that heavenly general clad in golden armor leave as well?”
The black-armored giant replied calmly, “He is me, and I am him. We are one being; only our primordial spirits are separated.”
“I see. That’s why I thought you two looked alike…”
Su Che nodded and asked further, “The Immortal-Demon Battlefield now belongs to me. What should I do with those Origin Demons?”
“I don’t know,” the black-armored giant said with a shrug. “That’s your concern, not mine. My duty is merely to guard this place and wait for its destined person. Now that my mission is complete, I know nothing about the rest.”
“Three ‘I don’t knows,’ right?” Su Che asked, tilting his head.
“Yes,” the black-armored giant nodded frankly.
“Then you can go,” Su Che said calmly, unbothered. “Do you need me to see you out?”
“No need,” the giant explained. “With your permission, I can leave on my own. But from now on, I will never return.”
“I guess you really don’t want to come back, right?” Su Che asked with a smile.
“I never expected that waiting would take seventy million years…” The black-armored giant sighed heavily. “Once I leave, I’ll never return, even if killed.”
“I understand!” Su Che laughed.
Beneath his mask, the black-armored giant seemed to smile as well. Finally, he said, “Perhaps we might meet again in the Immortal Realm. Then, depending on your strength, I’ll decide whether to fight you or help you once more.”
“Great!” Su Che agreed with a smile. He understood perfectly—should their strengths be similar when they met again, they would fight, allowing the giant to vent his seven million years of frustration. If his strength was inferior, the giant would help him as a token of gratitude for freeing him.
Whoosh!
The black-armored giant vanished, leaving quietly.
“I guess this guy must have committed some crime to be chosen by those peak warriors and given such a tough task,” Lao He mused, resting his chin in his hand.
“I think so too.”
Su Che thought to himself, “Seven tens of millions of years of lonely vigilance—this punishment is truly severe!”
“Enough of that!”
Lao He immediately showed an impatient expression. “What I want to know most now is what benefits we can gain from having the Immortal-Demon Battlefield under our control… You’ve slept for three days! How can you still sleep so easily?”
“I guess, aside from those immortal artifacts and treasures, as well as the battlefield’s own functions, the greatest opportunity is to prove to certain people that I am the one they’ve been waiting for. Once I go to the Immortal Realm in the future, I’ll receive their special attention and cultivation.”
Su Che wasn’t joking; he spoke solemnly, “But I don’t want to grow along any path set by others. I prefer to develop on my own in peace. When I reach a sufficient level, I’ll make a stunning appearance and intimidate the world, so that no one dares to control or interfere with me…”
Su Che believed his mindset wasn’t arrogance but rather stemmed from possessing the Immortal Prison. With the Immortal Prison, he didn’t need anyone’s care or cultivation. In fact, he had to worry about them trying to spy on his secrets and covet his Immortal Prison.
Lao He reminded him, “But the problem is, having reached this point, you’ve already attracted a lot of attention. It’s too late to stay low-key now.”
“I understand.”
Su Che nodded. “That’s why I don’t see anything to be happy about.”
As they communicated mentally, Su Che had already approached the statue. The purplish-red statue exuded an air of authority and a strong aura of menace. Its appearance was exactly like Su Che’s.
Without touching it, Su Che simply focused his mind on it, and a large amount of information was transmitted to his mind—all related to the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, mainly telling him how to rule this special realm.
In a little over a quarter of an hour, he learned most of what he needed to know. With a thought from Su Che, the eight water mirrors behind him lit up, reflecting the figures of the eight people.
Over these days, they hadn’t yet completed their respective opportunities, and the difficulty involved could be imagined.
“Reduce the difficulty for them a bit. Let none of them return empty-handed. At the very least, don’t let them die in vain…”
Su Che couldn’t just hand them ready-made opportunities. They still had to strive for them through their own efforts and luck. However, considering their brotherly bond, it was only right to lower the difficulty of their trials.
Especially for Lianyi, the difficulty was reduced to the lowest level.
The so-called opportunities they could obtain were merely a drop in the ocean compared to the vast treasure of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield. Su Che wasn’t that stingy—he’d enjoy the benefits for himself without sparing a bit for others.
Swish swish swish…
The other ten water mirrors also lit up one after another. As the master of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, Su Che could observe any corner.
First, what Su Che wanted to know was what the father of the demon princess looked like—the Origin Demon King hiding in the darkness…
There he was!
A hugely bulky giant monster, with golden flesh wings on its back that were indeed large, yet still appeared disproportionate due to its massive frame. Small wings, a huge body—quite comical.
“It looks like a seriously obese lizard with a huge belly—ugly as hell!” Lao He muttered. “No wonder it’s too ashamed to show itself.”
Of course, that was just sarcasm. The Golden-Winged Demon King, whose strength equaled that of a Great Luo Golden Immortal, surely had the ability to transform into anything—like a handsome human—so there was no possibility of it being too ashamed to appear.
The real reason was that dozens of thick tubular structures were connected to its belly, filled with viscous liquids of various colors, looking quite disgusting. Each tube was connected to its own pool, where unknown liquids soaked some flesh-like objects…
Clearly, this guy was cultivating some kind of demonic art and was temporarily unable to move.
Looking at another water mirror, the demon princess, her entire body glowing with blue light, was tormenting two demons who had committed mistakes.
They must have made mistakes, right? Who knows!
Those two Copper-Winged Demons, with their torn flesh, possessed the strength of Xuan Immortals, yet they could only crawl on the ground like pitiful reptiles, not even daring to plead for mercy.
If this was how she treated her own kind, one could imagine what would happen to other creatures if they fell into her hands.
“Now, there’s no need to fear her anymore!”
Su Che was secretly relieved.
Lao He then asked, “Since you’re the master of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, can you use its world power to kill them?”
“Killing Copper-Winged Demons is easy; Silver-Winged Demons are a bit more difficult; but the Golden-Winged Demon King is impossible!” Su Che replied. “My cultivation level is still too low. Even though I have divine artifacts, I can’t fully unleash their power. I guess I’ll have to reach the level of a Heavenly Immortal before I can use the world power of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield to kill the Golden-Winged Demon King.”
At that point, he changed his tone: “Besides, why should I kill them? Their existence must have its reason.”
“I don’t care about logic or anything. All I care about is whether those immortal artifacts and magical treasures inside those floating boulders will obediently end up in our hands,” grumbled Lao Hei.
“That’s no problem.”
Su Che smiled arrogantly, “Inside the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, everything belongs to me—including these demons. Everything is already in my hands. What more are you worried about?”
“Oh, I see!”
Lao Hei grinned widely, “Then I’m relieved.”
While smiling, he began to calculate in his mind, “There are at least twenty million floating boulders in the Immortal-Demon Battlefield—tombs of fallen immortals, along with their burial treasures, those immortal artifacts and magical weapons that have lain dormant for years…”
“Good heavens! What an astonishing fortune this must be! How much immortal crystal could be sold for? How many small worlds could be bought? How many uninhabited planets in the Immortal Prison World could be brought back to life…”
After calculating for a while, Lao Hei asked again, “But I’m puzzled. Since you’ve become the master of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield, you hold ultimate power over them. Why would they foolishly hope for your arrival?”
“Nobody wants to spend their whole life in prison!”
Su Che replied in his heart, “The Immortal-Demon Battlefield is their prison. Though they have almost infinite lifespans, this space is too confined and monotonous for them. Their ambitions, desires, instincts for killing—everything is trapped inside them. After countless years, they’re suffocating, about to explode. The Origin Demons fear death least of all; what they fear most is this kind of life.”
“Tch!”
Lao Hei snorted, “Surely, you can’t set them free? That’s pure delusion!”
Lao Hei knew well that given his master’s kind heart, he would never let these chaotic demons run amok and harm others. Their dream of freedom could never become reality.
“Yes, I can’t set them free, but…”
Su Che pointed at his own head, “I can bring them inside.”
“Put these scourges into the Immortal Prison?”
Lao Hei was stunned for a moment before asking, “Do you want to enslave their souls and turn them into servants?”
“Not exactly.”
Su Che shook his head. “If I enslaved the Origin Demons to work for me, even if they didn’t do evil, they would become public enemies of the immortal realm, ranked as the tenth Demon Ancestor in the eyes of all living beings. Especially the immortals of the immortal realm—their hatred and hostility toward the Origin Demons can’t be washed away even by the waters of the Milky Way. They won’t give you any chance to explain.”
“No way, my master.”
Lao He immediately understood and stammered, “You don’t mean to give them a home in the Immortal Prison, do you?”
“Perhaps this is one of my innate missions; perhaps this is one of the reasons for the existence of the Immortal Prison!”
Su Che replied solemnly, “That’s likely! Still don’t you realize it?”
Lao He scratched his head and glanced around at the cosmic stars in the first layer of the Immortal Prison, muttering softly, “As the chief spirit of the Immortal Prison, I think its purpose is to serve you. All other reasons are nonsense!”
Su Che laughed and said, “Nonsense! Aren’t you afraid of being punished by the Immortal Prison Pagoda?”
“What’s there to fear?”
Lao He snorted mockingly, “At least I know clearly that my purpose is to serve you. Otherwise, what use would I be?”
