Chapter 680: The Blood of Saints and Demons
At this moment, Su Che thought of how Lao He had arranged certain opportunities for those young cultivators on Qi Yuan Star, taking it as a form of amusement—watching from above, silently observing…
So, was it possible that those peak warriors who created the Battlefield of Immortals and Demons were also watching every move he made, seeing everything that happened?
Was such a thing possible?
“It’s hard to say,” Lao He said in a low voice, resting his chin in his hand. “Maybe you’re right after all.”
“That feeling is terrible!”
Su Che thought to himself, “The worst part is having all one’s actions under someone else’s surveillance.”
“Yes, indeed,” Lao He nodded repeatedly. Of course, he understood that his master’s words carried a double meaning and quickly added, “From now on, when I arrange opportunities for others, I won’t spy on them anymore.”
Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself—Su Che indeed meant that.
But now, whatever happened, he had come this far, and he would not give up on the upcoming challenges for any reason. For if he failed, he could only accept death.
Su Che slowly walked into the circular area at the center of the inner hall. As soon as he stepped there, the nearest water mirror suddenly lit up…
Su Che quickly turned around, looking at the mirror warily. Inside, a scene appeared—initially blurry, but it became crystal clear after just two breaths.
“It seems to be one of the floating boulders in the Battlefield of Immortals and Demons…”
Su Che could see that on top of one of these floating boulders, which was likely the tomb of a fallen immortal, stood two oddly shaped Origin Demons. They seemed to be laughing arrogantly while discussing something, though he couldn’t hear what they were saying.
“I think I understand!”
After observing for a while, Su Che moved swiftly to the left, stepping in front of another water mirror. Sure enough, that mirror also lit up, showing another image in an instant.
The person in the mirror was the explorer who had entered the Battlefield of Immortals and Demons with him: Black Crow!
Black Crow was sitting cross-legged on the ground, eyes closed, but his expression changed rapidly, as if he was suffering from some kind of hallucination.
The surroundings around him resembled a stone forest maze, filled with countless giant stone pillars of various shapes.
“It seems Black Crow still hasn’t obtained the opportunity he hoped for and is still undergoing the trials of the maze.”
Su Che thought to himself, “Fifty days have passed already, and his efficiency is really poor.”
Lao He asked curiously, “Which path did Hei Ya choose back then?”
“I didn’t pay attention,” Su Che shook his head inwardly.
There were five paths: Dao, Fa, Qi, Dan, and Zhen. Su Che only knew that Lian Yi had chosen the Fa path; he wasn’t sure about the others’ choices yet.
Su Che had an epiphany: “I guess if one can truly control these eighteen water mirrors here, they can observe every corner of the Immortal-Demon Battlefield. We can find out who is doing what just by looking through these mirrors.”
It wasn’t hard to figure this out—each super sect on Qi Yuan Star had a mountain-protection formation with similar surveillance functions.
Lao He also understood: “So this place is the most crucial core of the entire Immortal-Demon Battlefield! Controlling this place means completely controlling the battlefield?”
“Probably,” Su Che nodded slightly.
If one could become the ruler of the entire Immortal-Demon Battlefield, then all the opportunities and treasures here would be within reach—there was no doubt about that.
As he spoke, Su Che switched through several water mirrors until he finally saw Lian Yi’s figure in one of them.
“Not bad. At least she’s safe,” Su Che felt somewhat relieved.
In the mirror, Lian Yi was in a vast void, constantly fighting against several mysterious creatures that resembled demon souls. The spells she used seemed to be either ones she already knew or ones she had just learned in the Fa path. In any case, they appeared somewhat unskilled and not very smooth or natural.
“She shouldn’t be in too much danger,” Lao He said. “Look, she seems calm—there’s no sign of tension or fear.”
Su Che agreed inwardly, watched for a while, then left that mirror.
For now, he couldn’t help her in any way; a quick glance was enough. To put it bluntly, he himself couldn’t even save himself, so worrying about others was pointless.
Since he had understood the function of these mirrors, there was no need to waste more time on them. Su Che turned around and gazed up at the three-zhang-tall humanoid statue.
As Lao He had said, whoever controlled this place would surely transform this simple statue into their own likeness. Su Che thought the same.
“The key is how to take control of this place.”
“Since it’s a chance-based challenge, what kind of challenge should I face?”
“I’ve been here for over twenty minutes now—why is there no sign of anything? No danger at all?”
With these questions in mind, Su Che circled the statue several times. Finding nothing, he searched the entire inner hall thoroughly but detected no other suspicious elements.
“It seems all the answers lie with that statue…”
Returning to face the statue directly, Su Che focused for a moment before mustering the courage to place his hand on its base, at the level of its lower leg.
Boom!
It was fine not moving it, but as soon as he did, changes occurred immediately.
The entire hall shook violently, and soon a mass of black smoke rose from the ground, rapidly coalescing into a giant in black armor in mid-air.
This giant in black armor resembled greatly the guardian generals of the Sealing Demon Array. The difference was that the guardian generals were clad in golden armor with golden masks, appearing extremely majestic like ancient war gods, exuding an aura of inviolable sanctity.
This giant, however, wore black armor, surrounded by swirling black smoke, radiating a deeply eerie and sinister aura.
One good, one evil?
The giant in black armor also wore a mask, leaving only a pair of deep, cold eyes visible. It stared down at Su Che silently.
Although the opponent’s presence was terrifying, Su Che wasn’t nervous at all, knowing full well that he was about to face a challenge. He would only die if he failed; otherwise, the opponent wouldn’t kill him casually.
“I came here…”
Su Che waved at the statue and spoke to the giant in black armor first, “to claim what’s mine.”
The giant remained silent. With a single wave of its hand, the translucent statue in front of Su Che changed.
The statue was clearly hollow, and pitch-black liquid gushed upward from its base at great speed, filling the entire statue in the blink of an eye.
The once translucent statue turned completely black!
“I give you one hour to drink up all the Sacred Demon Blood inside!”
Finally, the giant in black armor spoke, its voice dripping with extreme ruthlessness and coldness.
“What?”
Su Che was shocked. Leaving aside what “Sacred Demon Blood” was, just consider the volume of that black liquid contained within the three-zhang-tall statue—how big could his stomach be? He’d surely die from overeating!
But the black-armored giant didn’t give Su Che a chance to ask questions. Whoosh… The eight water mirrors around him lit up simultaneously, showing the figures of You Lin and the other three Seal Demons, as well as Ripples, Cloud Fan, Blood Fiend, and the other five—eight explorers in total.
“One hour!”
The black-armored giant roared again, “If you fail, you’ll die without a doubt! Your opportunity will be transferred to one of them at random, and then that person will come here to take on the challenge.”
As soon as he finished speaking, an hourglass appeared in his hand, with black sand in the upper half beginning to flow downward. At the same time, the eight water mirrors representing the group of eight began to flicker on and off. Clearly, the black hourglass was a timer—once the sand ran out, meaning one hour had passed and Su Che had failed the challenge, seven of the mirrors would dim while one would remain bright.
The mirror that stayed lit would show the person who would inherit Su Che’s opportunity and be transported here to continue the challenge.
It was possible that one of the eight might succeed in the challenge; or it might be that they all failed, ending everything, leaving the Battlefield of Immortals and Demons to wait for the next lucky person to come and unlock the treasure…
“Drink all the black water inside in one hour?”
Su Che and Old Black cursed together, “Which damn idiot came up with this stupid idea?”
“That black water seems to be some kind of blood from saints or demons. Is it even clean? Is it hygienic?”
Su Che cursed in his heart, while Old Black howled loudly in the Prison of Immortals.
What exactly is the blood of saints and demons?
The black hourglass had already started counting time. The more hesitation there was, the more time Su Che was wasting, wasting his own life.
“Drink it!”
Old Black muttered softly in the Prison of Immortals, “To survive, you have to drink anything! We’ve come this far—there’s no time to regret it. Master, think positively. At least it’s the blood of saints and demons, not their urine…”
“Are you trying to comfort me or provoke me?” Su Che was furious.
Still, Su Che could guess that the so-called blood of saints and demons must be related to the Origin Demons. It was likely the blood of some high-ranking member of the Origin Demons, with extremely fierce demonic properties—thousands or even tens of thousands of times stronger than ordinary demonic energy…
This trial tested the challenger’s resistance to demonic influence. If they could drink the blood of saints and demons without being corrupted, then congratulations—you were the person everyone had been waiting for!
I guess that’s it?
“I hate those people! I hate that person too!”
