Chapter 38: The Death of Long Tian
It was a man with an eerily exotic aura—long purple hair, silver-gray eyes, and a pale complexion devoid of blood. His face possessed a neutral beauty; without a Adam’s apple, it would be impossible to tell whether he was male or female.
The man was not tall, about 1.75 meters at most, and appeared quite thin, looking no older than his early twenties. Yet the fearful expression on Kelly’s face as she clutched her abdomen in pain made everyone present realize that this guy was by no means ordinary.
“Kelly, are you okay?” Ye Feng noticed blood seeping through the cloth Kelly was using to cover her abdomen and stepped closer to her.
“I’m fine, just a superficial wound. This guy is strong,” Kelly said, her breathing a bit rapid.
“Apply this!” Ye Feng handed her a bottle of topical medicine.
Kelly hesitated for a moment before taking the medicine from him.
Ye Feng blocked Kelly’s path and turned to the man, asking, “Who are you? Why did you attack her?”
“Who I am? You ignorant humans! I am the great Baron Kalbi!” The man raised his hands high, showing off his greatness in front of everyone.
“Sorry, I’ve never heard of any barons in China. Even if there are, they have nothing to do with us,” Ye Feng replied bluntly.
“What? You haven’t even heard of the great Baron Kalbi? Have the hunters forgotten my glory?” Hearing this, Kalbi realized that his name seemed to have little impact on Ye Feng.
“Wait a moment—are you Kalbi, the vampire? The Platinum Hunter from two hundred years ago?” Yi Fan finally pulled this name out from the chaos of information in his mind.
“This little kid is quite impressive—she even knows me. But please call me Lord Baron Kalbi,” Kalbi said with a smug smile.
“Well then, great Lord Kalbi, get close to him.”
Ye Feng quietly pulled Kelly back step by step. After applying the ointment he had given her, her abdominal wound healed quickly. If it weren’t for the bloodstains still on her clothes, she might have thought everything that had happened was just an illusion.
“Travel? Do you think I’m crazy! If it weren’t for the exorbitant reward for this mission that I couldn’t refuse, I would never come to such a hellish place. There are too many powerful figures in the East, and many who hold prejudices against our dark world. A single mistake could get you killed. Although Lord Kalbi and I are already very strong, who knows if some even stronger opponent might suddenly appear here…” Kalbi vented his dissatisfaction openly.
“Well… Lord Baron Kalbi, may I ask what mission you’ve taken on this time?” Yi Fan smiled broadly, though his heart was in his throat.
“You seem like someone I can trust, so I might as well tell you. Someone is offering 200 million dollars for someone’s head—me to kill a kid named Long Tian. To be honest, this is the biggest deal I’ve ever done in my life, which is why I came all the way from Britain.” Kalbi’s words sent shockwaves through everyone present.
“Lord Baron Kalbi, could we discuss something? If you give up this mission, I can give you 500 million dollars! That’s more than twice your usual reward. Please consider it. The mission we’ve taken on is to protect this person, and he’s also our friend. We absolutely cannot give up on this mission.” Yi Fan knew that resisting with force would be utterly irrational. This guy had already been one of the best hunters among the Platinum Hunters back in the day. Though he was still a baron just like two hundred years ago, who knew how strong he had become over those two centuries? He decided to try a different approach to avoid this crisis.
“Hmm, young man, this really puts me in a difficult position…” Kalbi clearly hesitated.
“If 500 million dollars isn’t enough for you, then… 1 billion dollars! As long as you agree to give up this mission, I can transfer the money to your account by tomorrow. I’m sure, as a vampire, you’re someone who keeps his word.” Truly a veteran, Yi Fan increased the stakes once again in an attempt to turn the situation around.
“Young man, though I’m very curious about where you got so much money, since you dare to tell me, you must have some assets. But… unfortunately, I can’t go easy on this mission, nor can I give up… because it’s an S-class special mission. The condition is that if it fails or is abandoned—permanent loss of Platinum Hunter status and a zero credit score. Perhaps if I follow your advice and abandon this mission, I could indeed get one billion dollars, but one billion dollars can be earned through just ten S-class missions. As a vampire with a long life, if I lose my status as a Platinum Hunter, I really don’t know what kind of pleasure I could find anymore. You should know that with my current strength, only S-class missions can bring me some novelty…” Kalbi’s answer was clearly a refusal, instantly tensing the atmosphere.
Hearing Kalbi’s response, Yi Fan knew that no matter how much he tried to raise the price, it would be useless. For Ye Feng’s sake, he had no choice but to fight!
“If that’s the case, Mr. Kalbi, it seems we’re destined to be enemies…” Yi Fan sighed softly, gave Ye Feng a secret glance, and rushed at Kalbi.
Ye Feng stepped beside Ling Kai and whispered in his ear, “Take Brother Long away—we’re here!”
Ling Kai tried to say something more, but Ye Feng grabbed his collar and threw him into the hut. He landed at the door, glanced back at Ye Feng and the others, then rushed inside.
Ye Feng and the two others launched a fierce attack on Kalbi, but he didn’t fight back.
“It seems you have no idea about the gap in strength. Your attacks can’t cause me any harm at all.” Kalbi looked up at Ling Kai, who was fleeing with Long Tian, then suddenly exerted force, pushing the three of them away. “If I wanted to, I could kill you all in an instant…”
As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Feng felt a severe pain in his abdomen. He raised his head in shock only to find Kalbi still standing there, while Yi Fan and Kelly were both holding their wounded abdomens. The attack that penetrated their abdomens had left them unable to fight effectively.
“That’s the gap in strength. You can’t even catch a glimpse of how I attacked…” Before he could finish, Kalbi disappeared again.
Ye Fan faintly saw a blurred black shadow appear behind Ling Kai. He shouted weakly into the distance, “No!!!”
Then, helplessly, he watched as Calby’s left hand reached from Long Tian’s back, pierced through Ling Kai’s chest, and emerged with blood-stained fingers. A cold smile appeared on Calby’s face. “Mission complete…”
“Brother Long…” Ye Feng, with tears streaming down his face, watched the two collapse helplessly in the distance. His outstretched right hand slowly clenched into a fist. He raised his head and glared coldly at Calby in the distance. “I’m going to kill you!!!”
