Chapter 589: The Yang Sisters
Li Qing’an never expected that the one who opened the door would be Yang Huahua. The first word that came to his mind was “persistent.”
“How could it be you?” Li Qing’an blurted out.
“Why not me?”
Yang Huahua was initially stunned, but she reacted quickly. A smile spread across her cheeks like rosy light, and she gazed at Li Qing’an with fiery eyes, saying, “Why can’t I be here, my General Li?”
“Hmm!”
Li Qing’an concealed his brief embarrassment and smiled nonchalantly, “I thought you were still in Taiyuan.”
“Third sister, is Snow Lady back?”
“No, it’s that man who’s here.”
“Ah!” A soft exclamation came from inside the house. Yang Yuhuan rushed out like the wind, her beautiful eyes gleaming with excitement. But in front of Yang Huahua, she managed to control her emotions. The sparkle in her eyes disappeared, and she said calmly, “So it’s General Li who’s here.”
“Oh! So it’s not that person after all.”
Yang Huahua smiled ambiguously. “I thought so! How could my third sister give up her cultivation for a general? I was wrong—there’s someone else.”
“Third sister!”
Yang Yuhuan’s expression turned cold. Yang Huahua’s deliberate provocation angered her greatly. She scolded in a low voice, “Stop talking nonsense!”
She stepped forward and gazed at Li Qing’an affectionately, saying, “Seventh brother, come in!”
By changing the address, Yang Yuhuan was undoubtedly acknowledging her relationship with Li Qing’an. Instantly, a barely noticeable hint of jealousy flashed in Yang Huahua’s eyes. If Li Qing’an came to see his fourth sister in the middle of the night, what could it be for?
Without needing to ask, she could guess their relationship. She then smiled and said, “I was rude. Please come in, General.”
Li Qing’an smiled and walked into the courtyard with his hands behind his back. After taking a few steps, he positioned himself between Yang Yuhuan and Yang Huahua—facing Yang Yuhuan and with his back to Yang Huahua. He glanced back and gave Yang Yuhuan a subtle look, asking her why Yang Huahua was there.
A wry smile appeared on Yang Yuhuan’s face as she said softly, “Seventh brother, please sit inside.”
Knowing it would be difficult for her to explain anything in front of Yang Huahua, Li Qing’an didn’t press further and entered the house. The interior was softly lit and simply furnished, with tables and chairs. On the wall hung a brocade depicting a general in battle, embroidered by Yang Yuhuan herself.
There was already a cup of tea on the table, steaming gently. There was still most of the tea left, indicating that Yang Huahua had also just arrived. At that moment, Yang Huahua followed in.
“General, please sit down. Don’t stand there.”
Yang Huahua overshadowed Yang Yuhuan, taking her place as the master of the household. She then turned around and ordered, “Yuhuan, why don’t you go serve tea to the general?”
Today, Yang Yuhuan’s maid, Xue Niang, was not around, so Yang Yuhuan had to prepare the tea herself. Li Qing’an stopped her as she was about to go, saying, “Madam Yang, no need to bother. I’m not thirsty.”
Yang Yuhuan shook her head and said, “Qilang, please sit down first! It won’t take long to make tea. I’ll be right back.”
She hurried to the kitchen. Seeing that he couldn’t stop her, Li Qing’an sat down. Yang Huahua sat across from him. In fact, she just wanted to keep Yang Yuhuan away so she could talk to him.
When Yang Yuhuan left, she asked in a half-smiling, half-serious tone, “You actually hooked up with my fourth sister? Be honest—when did it happen?”
Li Qing’an disliked her use of the word “hooked up.” He smiled faintly and changed the subject. “How…?” This was actually what Li Qing’an wanted to know the most. He had kept Yang Yuhuan’s whereabouts secret; no one knew she was here, and Yang Yuhuan would never go to Yang Huahua. So how did she find her?
“Hmph! She’s called Yuhuan now—just now she was still Madam Yang!” Yang Huahua said sourly. Suddenly, she noticed Li Qing’an’s expression darken and stopped complaining, quickly explaining, “It was the light fabric she wove that revealed her. You see, only two families in Yizhou know how to weave such fabric, but I bought out all the fabric they produced this year. Unexpectedly, new fabric appeared in Chang’an. I knew there was another person who could weave it—my fourth sister. I never believed she died in Huaqing Palace, so I rushed back to Chang’an to investigate. Today afternoon, Xue Niang was selling that fabric at the Old East Silk Shop, which I also own. That’s how I easily found out where Yuhuan was.”
“I see.” Li Qing’an nodded. This was indeed a major flaw he had overlooked. Since Yang Huahua could find Yang Yuhuan using this clue, so could others. Fortunately, it was Yang Huahua who found her first. If An Lushan’s men had found her first, he would have regretted it too late.
His thoughts shifted, and his dislike for Yang Huahua diminished a bit. He smiled and said, “From your tone, it seems your business is quite successful?”
“Hmph! Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to know? How could anything I do escape the eyes of your Intelligence Bureau?”
“Not necessarily. As long as you’re not a spy for An Lushan or the Southern Tang, my people generally don’t pay attention. I only know you own a few large shops. As for your silk business, I really don’t know anything about it.”
“Third Sister is now running a very successful business!”
Yang Yuhuan carried two cups of freshly brewed tea on a tea tray and entered lightly like a butterfly. She knelt down beside Li Qing’an, placed the tea in front of him, and didn’t leave right away—instead, she sat down next to him. Earlier, while making tea, she had realized that if Li Qing’an hadn’t come, she might have been able to hide things, but now that he was here, their relationship could no longer be concealed. It was better to admit it and avoid her sister’s constant hints.
Yang Yuhuan smiled and said, “I heard from Third Sister just now that she not only runs a large money-lending business but also owns four Yang’s Taverns in Chang’an, Luoyang, Taiyuan, and Yangzhou. She even imports tea from the south to Chang’an. Recently, she wants to do business with Byzantium. It’s said she has millions in assets.”
As Yang Yuhuan sat beside Li Qing’an, Yang Huahua immediately felt uneasy. Over the years, she had always tried to make Li Qing’an her lover, but never succeeded, while her fourth sister had managed to win him—just because she used to be the imperial concubine?
Although uncomfortable, Yang Huahua, having spent many years in business, was excellent at hiding her feelings. With a charming smile, she said, “Fourth Sister, are you trying to belittle me? Saying I’m rich in front of Prince Zhao—is that like competing with Buddha in front of the Buddha himself?”
With that smile, fine crow’s feet appeared at the corners of her eyes. Only then did Li Qing’an notice her appearance—she had actually put on makeup. After all, Yang Huahua had always gone bare-faced, never wearing any makeup. Now, she had applied a thin layer of powder. Li Qing’an’s gaze shifted to her neck, which appeared duller, lacking its former luster, and seemingly a bit loose.
Li Qing’an then turned his gaze to Yang Yuhuan beside him, filled with admiration. Even without makeup, as a woman in her thirties, Yang Yuhuan had fair, smooth skin full of elasticity, giving off a delicate and alluring charm. Her every gesture was exquisitely graceful, truly irresistible—living up to her reputation as the most beautiful woman.
Yang Yuhuan, perceptive as ever, suddenly sensed that Li Qing’an was observing her. She felt delighted yet a bit embarrassed. She had also noticed her sister’s aging and knew that the comparison with Li Qing’an would hurt her. So, she smiled and said, “Why did Seventh Brother find time to come today?”
“You might not know yet, but An Lushan has rebelled.”
The news of An Lushan’s rebellion shocked the Yang sisters simultaneously. They exchanged glances, their eyes revealing their shock, especially Yang Huahua, who had significant business in Hebei. An Lushan’s rebellion would hit her the hardest.
“General, to what extent has the rebellion spread?”
Li Qing’an didn’t notice Yang Huahua’s concern. He was more interested in Yang Yuhuan’s reaction to An Lushan’s rebellion and smiled, “You really didn’t expect this, did you?”
“I indeed didn’t. He seemed so honest and straightforward.”
“Honest and straightforward?” Li Qing’an couldn’t help but laugh. Pointing at his own nose, he asked, “What impression do I give you?”
“You? Bold and lustful.”
Yang Yuhuan’s face turned red as she spat at him softly, “On the very first day teaching me archery, you already had ulterior motives.”
“Damn it!”
Yang Huahua’s face twisted in anger as she slammed the table, “It’s utterly infuriating!”
Her outburst startled the two people across from her. Yang Yuhuan had never seen her third sister swear before. She quickly asked worriedly, “Third sister, what’s wrong?”
Yang Huahua glanced at Li Qing’an. Seeing his stern expression, she swallowed her anger and said resentfully, “I’m saying An Lushan’s rebellion will ruin my business.”
“Then you should withdraw right away. It’s not too late yet.”
“Mm! I really need to arrange something tomorrow. That damned rebel—rebellious at such a time only brings disaster.”
“Third sister, didn’t you want to do business with Byzantium? Qilang is here. Talk to him; maybe it’ll help you.”
“Him?” Yang Huahua shot Li Qing’an a sideways look and curled her lips. “I won’t ask him. If I do, I’ll never be able to repay him.”
Li Qing’an smiled without saying anything, simply picking up his teacup to drink. The Yang sisters gradually shifted the conversation to their childhood, their laughter filling the air. But Li Qing’an’s mind was elsewhere. His hand, hidden under the table, quietly grasped Yang Yuhuan’s smooth, soft hand. Yang Yuhuan’s onion-shaped index finger bent slightly, writing a ‘3’ in Li Qing’an’s palm. Understanding, Li Qing’an drained his cup in one gulp, stood up, and said with a smile, “Well, I should go now.”
Yang Yuhuan quickly stood up as well. “Qilang, won’t you stay a little longer?”
Li Qing’an looked at her and said, “I have to prepare for the expedition tomorrow. I’m very busy. I doubt I’ll have time.”
In other words, he meant to come back tomorrow. At that moment, Yang Huahua suddenly stood up. “I need to leave too. I don’t have a carriage. General, could you give me a ride?”
“Third sister, stay at my place tonight. Why rush to leave?”
“I’ll come back another day! I need to arrange matters related to business in Hebei overnight; I’m afraid there won’t be enough time if I wait until tomorrow.”
Yang Huahua smiled at Li Qing’an and said, “General, is that okay?”
“Yes, I’ll give you a ride on the way.”
Li Qing’an bowed to Yang Yuhuan, then turned and left. Yang Yuhuan saw them off to the end of the alley, watching as the guards escorted the carriage away. A strange sense of melancholy filled her heart.
She sighed softly and turned back inside.
…
Yang Huahua lived in a shop in the East Market, right across from Xuanyang Fang. By then, the East Market gates had been closed. Li Qing’an’s guards opened them, and the carriage drove in and stopped by the side.
It was dark inside the carriage. Yang Huahua leaned against Li Qing’an, her peach-blossom eyes gazing at him mistily, as if reluctant to part. “Qilang, may I give you another bow?” she asked.
But Li Qing’an gently pushed her away. He had no interest in her at all. “Speak up! What do you want me to do for you?” he said indifferently.
Yang Huahua stubbornly clung to his arm, resting her head on his shoulder, and snapped, “You heartless man! I’ve loved you for so many years. Why do you want the fourth sister and not me? What’s wrong with me compared to her? It’s just that I don’t have the title of Imperial Concubine. Do you men like to play with women of high status?”
Li Qing’an frowned and pushed her away again. “Have you been drinking? Why are you talking nonsense?”
“No!”
This time, Yang Huahua didn’t rest her head on his shoulder. She sat down across from him, hands on her hips, staring at him fiercely like a combative hen. “You must tell me why you want her and not me. I’m so angry.”
“Do you really want to know?”
“Yes! I want to know…”
“Fine! I’ll tell you. I remember telling you years ago that I, Li Qing’an, don’t like to share women with other men. That’s all.”
Yang Huahua bit her lip hard. “But I’ve never married.”
Li Qing’an sneered. “It doesn’t matter if you marry. Hmph! You should know better than anyone how many men you’ve had over the years. Would I still want you?”
“You bastard!”
Yang Huahua suddenly lost control. She lunged at Li Qing’an, trying to scratch his face with her sharp nails. But Li Qing’an pushed her away. Suddenly, she burst into hysterical laughter.
“You wretched man! Do you think she’s never been with a man? She was the Queen Consort of the Prince of Shou, and she even slept with her father-in-law…”
Before she could finish speaking, Li Qing’an slapped her across the face with a crisp “slap!” “Get out!”
Yang Huahua’s hairpin came loose, her hair falling over her face. She covered her face, stunned.
Li Qing’an’s curses alerted his bodyguards. The door of the carriage opened, and several bodyguards appeared. He pointed at Yang Huahua and ordered, “Throw this woman out.”
The bodyguards grabbed Yang Huahua’s arms and dragged her outside. Panicked, she pleaded in a mournful voice, “Qilang, no! General, I was blinded by jealousy. Out of all these years of friendship, please spare me!”
Yang Huahua was dragged out of the carriage and sat collapsed on the ground. The door closed. Li Qing’an said coldly to her, “I won’t cause you trouble, but our so-called friendship is over. Be careful of yourself!”
“Go!”
The carriage turned around, surrounded by 500 cavalry, and headed east of the market. The gates of the east market closed with a rumble. Yang Huahua watched the departing carriage. She had originally hoped Li Qing’an would help her get a tax exemption certificate, but now she had gained nothing—neither money nor anything else. She gritted her teeth and cursed, “Li Qing’an, you damned bastard!”
Suddenly, she started crying again. No one had ever dared to hit her since she was young.
…
Yang Yuhuan felt extremely disappointed that night, not because her third sister had found her, but because Li Qing’an was going on another expedition. Though she always tried to be independent, deep down she was still a very fragile woman who relied heavily on Li Qing’an. Now that he was leaving for at least half a year, she felt like a rootless duckweed again, her heart empty.
It was already late, but she couldn’t fall asleep. Thinking that her battle robe for Li Qing’an wasn’t finished yet, she sat down by the lamp and began sewing stitch by stitch.
Suddenly, there was another knock at the door. Her maid, Xue Niang, had gone to Xianyang to visit family and wouldn’t return until the next day. Could it be she had rushed back?
Yang Yuhuan put down the battle robe and hurried to the courtyard. “Who is it?”
No one replied. At that moment, Yang Yuhuan’s heart started pounding. She felt both nervous and expectant. When she opened the door, it was indeed Li Qing’an. He looked at her with a half-smile and sharp gaze.
“Qilang, you… why are you here again?” Yang Yuhuan was extremely nervous.
“Oh! Since you don’t want me to come, then I’ll leave! See you in half a year.”
Li Qing’an turned to leave.
“No! Don’t go.”
Li Qing’an suddenly turned around, smiling in his eyes. “Since the beauty doesn’t want me to go, then I’ll stay.”
“You bad guy!”
Yang Yuhuan’s face turned red with shame. She stamped her foot, turned away, lowered her head, and fiddled with the hem of her dress, feeling both joy and nervousness. She knew what would happen tonight. Suddenly, she felt her body lift into the air as Li Qing’an picked her up by the legs. “Qilang! Put me down quickly—they’ll see…” Before she could finish speaking, Li Qing’an violently kissed her lips, with a brutality akin to a storm. Yang Yuhuan struggled for a few moments before losing herself in the arms of the man she had longed for and waited for, in the arms of a young man she truly loved and had once dreamed of… The door closed, and they continued to kiss passionately. Yang Yuhuan stretched out her arms and wrapped them around his neck, kissing him fervently. At that moment, it seemed as though she had returned to her youth; her heart quietly opened up. Li Qing’an had no more reservations. He grabbed her hand and led it to his manly member. Yang Yuhuan trembled as if struck by electricity and quickly tried to pull away, but Li Qing’an stubbornly pulled her hand back and pressed it firmly there. “No!” she pleaded softly. “Yes! I’m your man—hold it,” Li Qing’an ordered dominantly. Her hand trembled a few times before she finally grasped it. Li Qing’an recklessly touched every part of her body, slipping his hand into her underwear and rubbing her full, elastic breasts like peaches. Yang Yuhuan closed her eyes tightly, her face flushed, breathing softly. Li Qing’an picked her up again and entered the inner room, still greedily sucking on her breasts like a hungry baby. Yang Yuhuan was completely lost—two years of pent-up desire had finally broken through the barriers of reason. She longed, desperately longed for the body of this young man before her. Li Qing’an laid her on the bed and stripped her of all her clothes. Her delicate, fair body lay exposed before him. His eyes were dazzled by Yang Yuhuan’s soft, tender skin, as delicate as that of a virgin, full yet slender, exuding the unique charm of a mature woman. Her gaze was alluring, captivating. He was intoxicated—this was the famous Yang Guifei. “Qilang, please… turn off the light!” Her passion made it hard for her to speak. Li Qing’an blew out the light. Slowly, he lifted her plump buttocks and placed her long, delicate legs on his shoulders. Finally, he saw Yang Yuhuan’s most mysterious and beautiful part—a glistening stream of pure light.
“Yuhuan, I’m going in now.”
“Wait!”
Yang Yuhuan reached out and grabbed his pillar, filled with extreme terror yet also longing and fear. “Qilang, be slower, gentler—I’m scared.”
She slowly pulled it back.
Li Qing’an suddenly pushed forward and shouted, “Now, you’re my woman!”
Yang Yuhuan suddenly cried out, “Ah!” An intense pain almost tore her body apart, but quickly subsided, replaced by a swelling sensation deep within her. She felt an extreme pleasure that nearly drove her insane.
She bit Li Qing’an’s shoulder hard with her teeth, trying to suppress her uncontrollable screams. Li Qing’an began to move, and with each movement, Yang Yuhuan felt as if she were flying from hell to heaven and then back again. The intense pleasure caused every neuron in her body to explode, until finally she screamed and fainted.
Li Qing’an was terrified. He stopped immediately and looked at Yang Yuhuan anxiously. She slowly regained consciousness and suddenly hugged him tightly, crying, “Qilang, please, don’t leave me.”
Li Qing’an hugged her back and nodded solemnly, “You’ll be my woman for life.”
……
He remained motionless for a long time. When satisfaction appeared in her eyes, Li Qing’an slowly prepared to withdraw. He was afraid she wouldn’t bear it, but Yang Yuhuan suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck and coquettishly pleaded, “No, I don’t allow you to pull out. Keep moving.”
Li Qing’an was encouraged. “Okay! I’ll do it again.”
He started moving once more. This time, Yang Yuhuan understood what he wanted and began to cooperate. It was as if they were walking hand in hand across endless fields, with a gentle breeze and birdsong—no one else in the world, just the two of them, fully enjoying the wonderful taste of mutual love.
Li Qing’an moved faster and faster. Suddenly, he shouted, “I’m about to come!”
“Give it to me! I want to give birth to your child,” Yang Yuhuan said, gripping Li Qing’an’s shoulder tightly as her whole body trembled.
Suddenly, with a cry, they stopped at the same time. They hugged each other tightly. At that moment, not only were their bodies connected, but their souls too merged. In that instant, Yang Yuhuan realized she could never live without this man.
It was unknown how much time passed before Li Qing’an finally slowly got off Yang Yuhuan’s body. Yang Yuhuan, however, climbed onto him, pressing her face tightly against his chest. Her hair, like a waterfall, cascaded down, revealing a back as white as jade and as smooth as ivory. Li Qing’an gently stroked her smooth back and her round, peach-like buttocks. At that moment, his heart was filled with satisfaction and a sense of conquest. After years of longing and waiting, his dream had finally come true—that night, he had possessed Yang Guifei.
“Yuhuan, come with me to Luoyang.”
“Mm!” Yang Yuhuan replied softly. Suddenly, she said coquettishly, “I’ve given my body to you; now you have to support me.”
“I almost forgot if you hadn’t mentioned it. I won’t let anyone else find out about you.”
“I’ll wait for you at home every day.”
“Wait for me for what?” Li Qing’an asked with a teasing smile.
“You bad guy! You obviously know.”
Seeing her alluring charm, Li Qing’an felt desire again. He turned over and pinned her beneath him.
“Good! Let’s start the second time.”
……
That night, Li Qing’an repeatedly led Yang Yuhuan to realms of ecstasy. It was on that night that Yang Yuhuan was completely conquered by him.
