Chapter 1118: Lion Roar, Life-Stealing Silk

In the pitch-black hall, Kai Xin slowly turned around, facing the two glaring lights in the darkness that resembled ghost flames. The sudden transformation of the Buddha statue forced him to pause his plans to retrieve the silver treasure box. He frowned deeply and examined the statue carefully several times more. Compared to its once majestic appearance, the transformed Buddha was now a monstrous automaton exuding a fierce and violent aura. Its eyes fixed intently on him, creating a sense of oppressive dominance from above.

But!

That was all the change. Although the Buddha instilled an inexplicable sense of crisis in Kai Xin, it didn’t take any further action. It merely stared coldly at him in the center of the hall, like a wild beast lurking and ready to pounce.

Kai Xin dared not underestimate the Buddha in the slightest.

Inside the treasure chamber, the iron chain net on the fourth floor was already deadly enough to easily kill a master at the Mythical realm. This Buddha statue also didn’t seem like an ordinary object.

Step… Step!

Kai Xin walked slowly and solemnly toward the Buddha statue. Strangely enough, as he got closer, the sense of crisis diminished significantly. Those “ghost flames” were merely two giant rubies in the Buddha’s eyes, sealed inside its sockets using some special material. In the dark environment, they appeared terrifying, and the distance and atmosphere made them even more daunting. Yet, the fierce aura remained unchanged…

After a careful inspection, Kai Xin realized that this giant Buddha statue, over ten meters tall, seemed to be cast from steel. Even a heavy black iron sword would find it difficult to leave any visible scars on it, which left him utterly speechless. There seemed to be an unsettling mystery and sense of crisis surrounding the statue…

But destroying such a massive figure would take at least half a day, or he would have to smash one of its smaller parts first. Kai Xin knew he didn’t have that much time to waste!

Turning around, he could only suppress his unease and doubts for now and refocus his attention on the silver treasure box high above.

The difficulty had risen again…

Kai Xin became even more convinced that what was inside the silver treasure box was extraordinary. His curiosity about it grew, and he felt an urgent desire to uncover this secret himself.

“It doesn’t matter what you are… I’m determined to get that treasure box. If the Buddha stands in my way, I’ll destroy the Buddha.”

Glancing at the Buddha out of the corner of his eye, Kai Xin stamped his foot, using his intense dark energy to shatter a stone slab. The broken pieces flew up and automatically landed in his palms.

Without a moment’s pause!

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two slightly larger stone slabs were thrown into the air by Kai Xin at lightning speed. With a swift sword strike, his body soared upward. The entire movement was seamless, faster and more decisive than before. If anyone had witnessed this scene at that moment and seen Kai Xin’s expression, they would have found it eerily familiar—his calm, yet coldly confident gaze was much like that during their second encounter with the Evil Emperor.

Thud! Thud!! As he soared into the air, Kai Xin continued to keep an eye on the Buddha statue, multitasking by monitoring every move of the statue while methodically climbing up the stone slabs to a height of forty meters, rapidly approaching the chain net and the silver treasure box. When the distance narrowed to less than five meters, he quickly glanced at the silver treasure box… One of the four delicate iron chains had already broken, but the other three still held the box firmly in place, without any movement.

Whoosh!
Wind-Full Sky was activated!
The One Yang Finger! Since the Buddha statue remained motionless, Kai Xin wouldn’t miss this opportunity. He swiftly unleashed his most powerful move, a milky-white finger wind forming in the air. With the full power of Wind-Full Sky at its fourth level, its strength was now on par with that of the Heart-Following Strike at the Heavenly Man Unity level… The powerful natural energy surged into the finger wind, instantly breaking the second iron chain.

……
Roar!!!
Just as Kai Xin launched his attack at the fourth level, the previously motionless Buddha statue suddenly opened its mouth, unleashing a roar like that of a lion, accompanied by a forceful gust akin to a tornado. It was the Buddhist Lion Roar! Yet it seemed even more powerful than Watson’s own Lion Roar technique—a tangible shockwave exploded in the air, racing toward Kai Xin like a projectile.

Boom!!
In mid-air, the intense sound waves of the lion roar struck Kai Xin like a cannonball. He let out a muffled groan; his true energy field couldn’t withstand the Buddha statue’s roar. His body shook violently as he crashed into the wall and plummeted from dozens of meters high.

Crash!!
Unable to maintain his balance due to surging energy, he crashed heavily to the ground, shattering the floor. It was only his true energy field’s protective capabilities and his strengthened physique after mastering the Yi Jin Jing that saved his life.

Kai Xin thought to himself, lucky as hell: What an overwhelming Buddhist Lion Roar!

If it weren’t for him having already taken steps to retreat and quickly leave the fourth layer, that Buddha’s Lion Roar would likely have trapped him there forever, awaiting the fate of being pierced by countless needles!
As he fell from the sky, the mechanisms above him stopped firing automatically, and the Buddha statue closed its mouth, returning to its ready stance.
Seeing this, Kai Xin gradually understood: unless the mechanisms were triggered, the hidden weapons in the chain net would not activate… but once in the fourth layer, the Buddha statue would immediately launch an attack.
Buddha’s Lion Roar was extremely powerful, capable of bypassing the defenses of a true qi field. If the timing was even slightly off, it could result in death.
Thinking of this, Kai Xin felt a wave of fear. He sat back down, allowing his internal organs to recover from the damage caused by the roar, while regaining his internal energy.
Now, two of the chains on the silver treasure box had been broken—just two more strikes and it would be his!
Even facing the dual threats of the Buddha statue and the mechanisms, Kai Xin had no intention of retreating.
Minutes passed…
The Buddha statue remained motionless.
Kai Xin stood up from where he had been sitting.
“You can’t stop me.”
……
Boom!!
As Kai Xin plummeted from great height, another huge crater formed on the ground. He was once again slightly injured by the Buddha’s Lion Roar.
But at the cost of these minor injuries, he managed to break the third chain of the silver treasure box.
Without the support of those three chains, the box lost its balance, hanging high by a chain as thick as a fist, swaying constantly.
Kai Xin didn’t linger… he continued to sit in meditation, restoring his internal energy and healing his wounds.
The power of those dual mechanisms was clearly immense. For an ordinary person, reaching the sky would already be difficult, let alone breaking those tough chains under the attack of countless hidden weapons and Buddha’s Lion Roar.
“I hope what’s inside the box won’t disappoint me.”
Kai Xin knew he was just one final step away. Once recovered, he would act immediately!
For the last step, he was even more cautious.
With a single finger strike…
Snap!
The chain broke instantly. Free from its last restraint, the silver treasure box was swiftly grasped by Kai Xin’s skillful hand.
But to his surprise, the mechanism sounds of the fourth layer didn’t appear, nor did Buddha’s Lion Roar as expected.
Instead, something unexpected happened below—seemingly something was ejected from the mechanism sounds. All around the hall, faint buzzing noises came from the walls.
What was going on?

Although Happy couldn’t immediately shift his focus from the Buddha statue and the massive chain net, he quickly identified from the sound’s origin that it was the third type of trap, located right beneath his feet. If he fell, he would land right in the trap. Without hesitation, Happy put the silver treasure box into his spatial bag and used his “Dragon Seizing Hand” to grab the dangling thin iron chain, suspending himself in mid-air.

Whoosh!!
Under Happy’s weight, the thin chain was pulled taut, triggering the heavy and stable chain net once again. The familiar sound of springs activated…

“Not good!!”
Happy was shocked, panicking inwardly. In that instant, he took advantage of the brief pause to observe what was happening below…
Countless fine, razor-thin metal wires crisscrossed throughout the entire hall, forming a network like overlapping spider webs. But unlike ordinary spider webs, which were meant to capture prey, these wires were deadly and could snap with the slightest touch. Each tiny segment was worth a fortune and could rival divine artifacts… They covered every inch of the hall, leaving no gaps for escape.

Happy had no doubt that if he let go, he would be torn into thousands of pieces upon landing—compared to those deadly wires, he would rather face flying needles.

Roar!!!
Misfortune struck again! As Happy pulled the chain and rushed to the top of the fourth floor, pressing his body against the circular roof, another trap he had overlooked activated at the most critical moment— the Buddha’s Lion Roar!

Three threats at once… Below were deadly traps, in front were relentless flying needles, and from behind, more needles were attacking him. Now, the Lion Roar added to the pressure! Anyone else would be doomed.

Yet at that moment, Happy entered a state of calm indifference. His dark iron sword suddenly slid between his back and the roof dome. He focused his mind, opened his mouth, and let out a roar like that of a dragon toward the direction of the sound waves:

“Go away!”

As this tangible dragon roar echoed through the air, the countless flying needles in front of him were violently disrupted by an unstoppable force, gathering into a giant dragon-shaped mass that collided head-on with the shockwave emitted by the Buddha statue.

Boom!!!
Roar!!!
Howl!!!
The roar of the lion and the dragon!
An astonishing shockwave erupted in the air, sending the needles flying in all directions.

Happy still suffered a significant setback; although the Black Iron Heavy Sword blocked many of the flying needles, his back was still pierced by numerous needles in succession, reducing his vital energy field to less than one-third of its original strength. However, this attack disabled most of the tightly arranged flying needle traps on the fourth layer. The chaotic shooting caused many holes to be destroyed, drastically reducing the threat on the fourth layer. A glimmer of hope appeared in these deadly traps!
