Chapter 253: The Fox’s Escape, the King’s Tomb Revealed

This day was destined to be extraordinary!
Stimulated by the death of Yao Hua, the nine-tailed fox lost all control. In its fury, it slaughtered tens of thousands of players in the surrounding area, destroyed the Fox Immortal Village, and invaded Wuhu County, turning everything in its path to ashes!
The soldiers guarding Wuhu were no match for the nine-tailed fox at the Wuwei realm—indeed, they were even inferior to ordinary players. Before they could even approach, they were torn to pieces by sword energy from afar or crushed under collapsing city walls, their fates unknown.
Arrows and ranged attacks were completely ineffective against the nine-tailed fox. Though it had fallen to darkness, its mind remained clear. A protective barrier formed by its internal energy effortlessly blocked these attacks, leaving it unharmed. This terrified countless players, who completely gave up the idea of killing it. Upon seeing its figure from afar, they fled at top speed to avoid its path.
Yet…
The nine-tailed fox did not move in one direction. Occasionally, it would follow crowded routes, carrying out bloody massacres in the densest areas, with its fierce roars and collapsing houses marking the sites of further slaughter.
In less than an hour, nearly one-fifth of Wuhu’s houses were destroyed. From above, the city was a scene of devastation, with smoke rising everywhere.
But!
The nine-tailed fox was just part of this disaster.
In the densely populated death zones within the city, large groups of people watched eagerly from afar. Once the fox moved on, they would swarm over to seize resources. Beneath each corpse lay piles of money, and those lucky enough might find equipment—good or bad. Many gangs and factions focused on areas with concentrated corpses, with some even issuing warnings to others from afar due to their aggression.
As a result, even greater chaos ensued in Wuhu after the fox left. Fights broke out over valuable equipment or control of resources, adding more fresh blood to the still-dripping ground. Some unlucky ones, in their haste to seize something, started fighting while the fox was still nearby. When the fox turned around, it doubled the number of corpses on the ground…
But!

This still did not stop players from competing for wealth inside and outside the city. As long as they stayed alive, they would unhesitatingly plunge into the struggle to seize as much wealth as possible amid the chaos. Even the members of the three major gangs, who had suffered losses in this chaotic plundering, joined in to grab untended wealth! Without the restraint of the imperial court, Wuhu completely turned into a chaotic and dark world!

At this moment, the Nine-Tailed Fox, wielding two divine artifacts and possessing unparalleled martial skills, was no longer such a major concern. Everyone prayed in their hearts not to encounter this demon.

Eventually, a REP uploaded by a player went viral on the official website: In the REP, after leaving Wuhu and arriving in a nearby city, the Nine-Tailed Fox was intercepted by two Six-Flap Gate guards in black and white uniforms outside the city. After a fierce battle where both sides suffered losses, the Nine-Tailed Fox disappeared from the REP.

“Tsk tsk, that was dangerous!”
“Good thing the Nine-Tailed Fox didn’t storm in. I’m right in this city…”

The replies below the forum post were quickly criticized by some as lacking awareness:
“Idiots! It would have been better if it had stormed in. We just need to log off for a while, avoid dying, and then log back in to get rich!”
“Uh…”

An unprecedented disaster seemed like a golden opportunity for many players to make huge profits. Instead, they criticized the two Six-Flap Gate guards who had followed the Nine-Tailed Fox, saying they had missed a great chance to get rich.
“These people are crazy about getting rich.”

Chen Fan stood up with a sigh, leaving his computer desk. He happened to meet Kai Xin coming out of the game. He paused slightly and said, “By the way, it seems you’ve been in Wuhu these past days too…”

Kai Xin sighed tiredly and nodded.

Chen Fan’s movements froze instantly, and he became nervous:
“Are you okay?”

“You mean the Nine-Tailed Fox?” Kai Xin scratched his arm.

Hearing that Kai Xin knew about the Nine-Tailed Fox, Chen Fan became even more anxious and rushed over: “Are you alright?”

“You’re the one who’s not okay. Do I look like someone who’s in trouble?”

“Oh, I thought you’d encountered the Nine-Tailed Fox.”

Chen Fan felt relieved and sighed in relief as he explained, “It would be a huge loss to log off at a time like this. These past few days, our Colorful Robes Sect has been discussing inviting you to help with a hidden sect task.”

“A hidden sect task?”

Upon hearing this, Kai Xin became immediately interested: “What scale?”

Hidden sect tasks are generally very difficult to trigger, unless the person triggering them has exceptionally high reputation or exceptional luck. Otherwise, it’s hard for one person to complete a decent task even in a year.
Additionally, hidden sect tasks come in different levels… The smaller ones can be completed by one person, such as those involving complicated searches, and they naturally come with substantial rewards; but such tasks aren’t necessary. Tasks that require help are usually at a very high level and on a large scale, offering generous rewards—possibly even the transmission of unique martial arts techniques from the sect.
“For the larger-scale tasks, there’s no limit on the number of participants, and you can obtain many rare weapons, even divine artifacts. Moreover, I heard that representatives from all seven major sects will be involved in this task. If it were just people from our Colorful Robes Sect, it would be very difficult to succeed. After discussing it, we decided we must bring you along to complete this task!” When Chen Fan mentioned divine artifacts, his expression lit up slightly, and he glanced at him in surprise:
“Divine artifacts? Are you sure?”
“Sure!” Chen Fan replied firmly.
“The seven major sects… Could it be that task…”
Kai Xin frowned slightly, recalling a letter he had received from a lady of the Murong family just before quitting the game. Doubtfully, he asked, “Is the task location the ancient tombs of the Great Yan Dynasty? The royal mausoleums?”
“You know about that too?”
Chen Fan looked utterly astonished.
Kai Xin rolled his eyes at him. “Of course! The Murong family is the royal bloodline of the Great Yan Dynasty. If you’re going to work in their ancestral graves, how could I not know?”
“So, what should we do?”
“I’m aware of this task too, but it doesn’t mention divine artifact rewards. Where did you get that information? Who triggered the task?” Kai Xin asked, puzzled.
“Oh, it was Xu Yao!”
Chen Fan’s answer made Kai Xin take a sharp breath.
“Her? Which sect does she belong to?”
In his memory, Xu Yao didn’t have the ability to trigger such high-level hidden tasks in her past life.
“Oh, she recently joined the Huashan Sect. I heard it’s easier to gain reputation there, and her sect is very supportive of her. But with such generous rewards for this task, she thinks it’s better to leave it to the Colorful Robes Sect to help it grow and develop.”
Chen Fan didn’t notice at all that Kai Xin’s expression had become somewhat strange.
“Good… Very good.”
Kai Xin murmured to himself, “It seems I’ll have to return to the Murong family as well…”

The trajectory of his past life had clearly changed. Xu Yao seemed to want to get closer to him in a different way, and all of this suddenly gave him an uneasy intuition.
The Wang Ling mission was probably the result of someone else’s guidance, prompting Xu Yao to take the initiative to contact him.
Was it to expose him in front of people ahead of time?
The moment he stepped out of the dormitory, his happy expression turned extremely ugly.
