Chapter 78: A Massacre Unleashed
“What!”
At Black Wind Fortress, the leader of the Dragon and Tiger Gate received a message from his disciples via homing pigeon. Fuming, he crushed the note in his hand and stood up angrily, ordering, “Everyone! Follow me down the mountain to kill them!”
“Long Meng!”
Hearing his leader’s call, the vice leader Long Meng rushed over to receive orders.
“Immediately gather troops and meet at Hanshan Temple!” Though angry, he didn’t rush to send them deep into Hanshan Temple right away.
“As you command!”
Long Meng’s eyes lit up as he loudly accepted the order—he knew it was time for the Dragon and Tiger Gate to restore its glory! Without hesitation, he selected a group of men, and rows of homing pigeons, carrying the leader’s concise yet fierce orders, took off in a flurry from Black Wind Fortress.
Almost at the same time, disciples of the Dragon and Tiger Gate scattered across Gusu City received similar messages from their brothers. They stopped whatever they were doing—some returned to the city, others left it—creating a surge of activity at the city gates. Many sensed something ominous.
Members of other gangs in Gusu City quickly spread the news…
Soon, everyone knew that the Dragon and Tiger Gate was about to engage in a life-or-death battle with the Tianba Gate.
“When two tigers fight, both are likely to be hurt. Ignore them.”
The leaders of other gangs saw this as their best opportunity. With the two largest gangs in Gusu City fighting, casualties were inevitable. Once their strength was weakened, it would be their turn to take control.
Of course, many others were there just to watch the chaos.
At Hanshan Temple, the crowd suddenly swelled!
…
Deep in the forest, a fierce battle had already begun.
“Ah…”
“Surround him!”
“Damn it! Don’t let him escape!”
Shouts from the Tianba Gate members echoed as dozens of white-clad disciples formed a massive encirclement around Happy and his group. Yet, a swift, glowing figure kept rising and falling, using sharp light to silently take out one or two white-clad disciples at a time.
In less than half a minute, fourteen players lay dead or severely injured on the forest floor—each killed by a flying dagger.
Cyclone Li, Ximen Qing, and Canglang were leaning against a large tree, resisting the attacks from seven or eight players outside. Each of them had numerous wounds, but they still held their defense tenaciously and were not in immediate danger of death.
“Charge!”
“Go for them!!”
Seeing the growing number of corpses on the ground, Leader Lin was so enraged that his lips turned blue. They hadn’t even managed to touch Happy yet, yet they had already lost ten of their men. How could he make sense of this?
But there was one simple truth he understood!
With such frequent battles, and the opponent using willow leaf daggers along with light-footed skills, their internal energy alone surely wouldn’t last long. Since things had reached this point, they could only grit their teeth and hold on, draining the opponent’s internal energy once and for all!
Yet…
If Leader Lin had noticed a small detail about Happy, he surely wouldn’t have made such an easy decision.
As an experienced fighter, Happy did have some self-awareness. So, after each attack, he would immediately take a pill to replenish his slightly depleted internal energy and slowly recover. Over time, he could shoot dozens of willow leaf daggers without showing signs of fatigue. Instead, his proficiency made him more energetic, with his speed and angle of attack becoming increasingly effortless, as if it came naturally to him.
Although many disciples of the Tianba Sect also practiced light-footed skills, clearly none of them had the patience to combine their techniques with light-footed movements for days. Even the best of them couldn’t keep up with Happy’s pace and footwork. At first, with more people around, they hadn’t noticed, but as fewer and fewer of their comrades remained, some inevitably grew fearful, feeling like moving targets for the enemy to entertain.
Looking back, more than thirty corpses lay scattered along the path!
“How can we fight like this?”
The expressions of the group instantly turned grim, and they began to think of retreating.
At that moment, Happy also stopped in time. Glancing at the dozen or so people behind him, he curved his lips slightly, revealing an unreadable smile.
He slapped his waist, and two flashes of cold light appeared! “Ugh!” The two disciples of the Tianba Sect in the middle let out pained cries as they were flung out of the group and crashed heavily onto the path littered with corpses.
A chill swept through the group!
“Dodge!”
Someone shouted, and the group, like birds startled by a bowstring, fled in different directions deep into the woods.
Happy didn’t bother chasing them. Glancing at the corpses on the ground, his brows suddenly tightened. He leaped into the air, tapped a tree trunk, and soared several meters before rushing toward the still-intense small battle zone.
Ximen Qing and Xiao Li, the Wind Spinner, had both reached the level of Exit/Entry and possessed a master-level martial art. Fighting two opponents alone was indeed difficult, but they could still manage to defend themselves. As for Cang Lang, his situation was much worse—he was still working in a shop, practicing martial arts bought from a grocery store. His highest sword technique was only at the tenth level, and his body was covered with no fewer than twenty wounds, bloodied and in a pitiful state.
Despite this, Cang Lang gritted his teeth and continued to fight against the two opponents, preventing Xiao Li and Ximen Qing from facing further threats.
The members of the Tianba Sect were also extremely angry. Seven players at the Exit/Entry level still couldn’t defeat three unknown kids after a long battle?
“Kill the one on the left first!”
Perhaps because the others had been missing for too long, Lin, the sect leader who had stood by doing nothing, frowned with concern and rushed over. The person he meant was the struggling Cang Lang.
As one of the eight sect leaders of the Tianba Sect, Lin was quite skilled. He immediately used a sword-drawing technique, taking advantage of Cang Lang’s weak defenses to break through his defenses, pierce his shoulder, and pin him firmly to the tree behind him. Blood flowed profusely, leaving him unable to move.
Xiao Li and Ximen Qing’s faces turned pale!
“Cang Lang!”
They changed their tactics, risking cracking their knuckles as they pushed back the surrounding enemies to protect Cang Lang.
“Go! Leave me alone!”
“Shut up!”
“Xiao Wind, Ximen! Go! Remember to ask Senior Happy to avenge me!” With a determined expression, Cang Lang pushed Xiao Li away while shouting, “Don’t forget to kill that bearded guy on the left! Damn him! He stabbed me fourteen times—I’ll never forget him! And that sneaky man with the slanted eyes too!”
Xiao Li and Ximen Qing didn’t move. Cang Lang had stood his ground to protect them—how could they abandon their brother like this?
“…”
Outside, the bearded man in white felt awkward upon hearing this and touched his chin: A beard? It wasn’t that long anyway.
Just as they were unsure whether to kill them or not, Lin’s cold voice rang out:
“What are you waiting for? Kill them all—leave none!”
Before the words about the three people’s fate could fully sink in, a clear voice rang out, as if imbued with magic: “How bold! Let’s see who dares touch my brother!” It stopped the white-clad men from taking further action.
The sound of clothes rustling rushed forward as a furious young man in blue landed in front of Lin, the sect leader.
Seeing Happy arrive in time, the tension on the three men from Ximen’s group vanished, replaced by expressions of extreme joy.
