Chapter 38: Revenge Mission

Though severely injured and thus less combat-effective, dealing with two players without any real skills posed no difficulty at all for Kai Xin. He didn’t even want to waste his flying knives—waiting until they rushed close before suddenly slapping the ground and soaring high into the air. He grabbed one of them by the shoulder and nimbly flipped behind them.
A pull, a twist!
In terms of combat experience, “Four-Eyed Heaven-Seeer” was clearly inexperienced; he hadn’t expected a seemingly defeated opponent to be able to “fly.” Yet he reacted quickly, turning his sword and preparing to strike back without looking back.
But suddenly, a powerful force struck his shoulder…
“Ah!”
Four-Eyed Heaven-Seeer let out a painful cry as the energy within him was instantly shattered by a force like an electric current. At the same time, his shoulder screamed in pain from dislocation, and his bronze sword became limp and harmless. His face turned pale as he realized he had encountered a true opponent.
Kai Xin’s gaze was cold.
His techniques were highly skilled—he swiftly disarmed One-Eyed Heaven-Seeer of one arm, ignored the bronze sword entirely, and delivered a powerful punch right between the opponent’s chest and abdomen…
The Tanzhong acupoint!
One-Eyed Heaven-Seeer staggered back violently.
Kai Xin didn’t stop there.
Unlike dealing with Wu Hou and Luo Xiaotian, he felt no pity for a scoundrel like One-Eyed Heaven-Seeer who took advantage of others. With a palm strike, he made the opponent spit blood. Then, with lightning speed, he launched a double-legged attack. One-Eyed Heaven-Seeer staggered back as if hit by a train; his bronze sword flew from his hand, and he was sent flying like a projectile. With a loud thud, he nearly knocked over a tree behind him.
He slumped to the ground lifelessly…
Overwhelmed in an instant, One-Eyed Heaven-Seeer couldn’t react. His eyes reflected disbelief and confused fear as his limbs weakened. He sat half on the ground, spitting blood that soaked his clothes completely. His face was pale, his chest rising faintly—he was breathing out more than he was inhaling.
Turning to face Ghost Head, Kai Xin’s gaze darkened.
No turning back!
Before Ghost Head, terrified, could flee, Kai Xin drew his Sword of a Gentleman:
Clang!
A clear sound of a sword ringing echoed through the forest.
In his panic, Ghost Head was completely overwhelmed by Kai Xin’s fierce and rapid attacks. He even forgot he had martial skills. As he waved his sword frantically, he felt pain in his chest. Then he saw Kai Xin standing before him, looking down at him with contempt, radiating an aura of ruthless determination.
“…”

It was not until this moment that Gui Shou truly understood the terrifying power of the “Blue-Clothed Gentleman’s Sword.” With fear in his eyes, he lowered his head, staring at the sword swaying in his chest. Slowly, he raised his head and tried to speak, struggling to find words.

Pfft!

Kai Xin grasped the sword hilt again and calmly pulled the Gentleman’s Sword out of Gui Shou’s chest. Gui Shou’s body trembled, and he could no longer speak. Clutching the wound from which blood sprayed, he slowly slumped backward behind Kai Xin… until he became a blurred silhouette and vanished.

Not far away, with Gui Shou’s death, “Four-Eyed Heaven-Seeing”’s will to survive quickly faded, and he failed to catch up, leaning against a tree as he watched Kai Xin. His figure gradually blurred, faded… and disappeared.

Having killed two people, Kai Xin’s mood remained unchanged. He picked up the silver coins they had dropped, returned to his original spot, and sat cross-legged to continue using his internal techniques to heal himself.

……

“The Jianghu” is a world that is both complex and simple. Unlike other virtual games with concepts of malicious killing and self-defense, as a martial artist, one need not fear being hunted by the authorities as long as they do not commit crimes within the city.

In “The Jianghu,” all martial artists can fight each other…

But that doesn’t mean there are no rules. After a feud, either the player’s faction or the faction they belong to can issue “revenge missions.” Thus, hatred often leads to battles between numerous disciples from two factions, sparking large-scale wars.

Lessons from his past life made Kai Xin less inclined to kill easily… So when encountering players like Wu Hou, who weren’t inherently evil, he would try not to kill them outright. But against scoundrels like Four-Eyed Heaven-Seeing and Gui Shou, he would never show mercy or hesitation.

If you show leniency to a gentleman, they will treat you with respect; if you show leniency to a scoundrel, they will push further and even harbor resentment forever. So Kai Xin resorted to extreme measures right from the start, ending both of their lives in the shortest time possible, leaving them with an unforgettable mark for life.

He believed that after this battle, their strength would be diminished, and they wouldn’t be able to recover for a while. The image of him killing two people despite his own injuries would haunt them like a nightmare.

As long as they weren’t reckless, no matter what happened in the future, they would avoid him and stay far away…

He closed his eyes again. After circulating his vital energy three times, he finally restored his body to its peak condition before returning to the city.

With the mission completed, it was time to go back and see the prefect to receive the reward for this task—the Little Elixir of Recovery.

With the healing elixir Xiaohuandan, even dangerous places can be ventured into without fear.
…
In an isolated street in the eastern district of Gusu City, passing players would occasionally see players with pale faces, looking either angry or despondent, emerging from the Martial Temple, their steps unsteady.
Whenever such people were seen, passing players would give them sympathetic looks or become more cautious.
These were players who had just died once…
Dying once came with a heavy penalty.
Though it might seem negligible for newcomers, the loss in internal energy levels frustrated those who were on the verge of breaking through to the next realm.
Guishou and Simutongtian were among them.
They thought they would be able to reach the next realm in a few days, but instead encountered this situation…
Now, even if they reached that realm, their combat strength wouldn’t increase—it would actually decline in every aspect, wasting the advantage they had gained.
What was even more frustrating was that dying once meant losing 50% of their money.
The over two thousand taels of silver they had saved with great effort were gone, and after reviving, they felt like dying.
Yet!
This wasn’t even the most bothersome part for them.
They had thought that by killing Kai Xin and weakening his internal energy, the fame of the Blue-Clothed Gentleman Sword would soon be forgotten, perhaps even never recover.
But they never considered the consequences of their own death.
Now, coming out of the Martial Temple, thinking that they might encounter the Blue-Clothed Gentleman Sword at any time outside—encountering that terrifying boy who could kill them in an instant—made their faces even paler, and they shuddered involuntarily, filled with regret.
Together, they couldn’t even handle a wounded Kai Xin. If they met him again, wouldn’t he be able to kill them with a mere gesture? And it was clear he wasn’t someone who would show mercy—avoiding him once wouldn’t save them if they met again; dying once would undo all their previous efforts.
Thinking further, the two sighed repeatedly:
“We can’t stay in Gusu City anymore. Maybe we should move to another place?”
“Sigh, it’s the only option.”
The poor Guishou and Simutongtian disappeared completely from Gusu City from then on.
