Volume 4: The Revelation Revealed Chapter 532: The Dragon Clan’s Resentment
After much deliberation, Wukong decided not to make any further changes. It was not that he did not value human lives, but because Longnu and Longshu truly cared for each other. Moreover, he was about to leave heaven, and if possible, he would surely stop that person.
Leaving the Water Curtain Cave, Wukong arrived on the shore of the Eastern Sea. On a cliff stood a grand hall named the “Rain God Hall.” Though there were thousands of such halls across the world, it was only in this hall that the true Rain God, Chisongzi, resided.
From afar, Wukong saw many monsters and dragons from the four seas coming and going, conveying messages about bringing rain to the world. He couldn’t help but sigh—this world truly shouldn’t perish!
While mortals busied themselves with survival day and night, even immortals and demons rarely worked together for the benefit of humanity. This was the kind of world he desired—one where people valued one another and did not force others to abandon their true nature. Such a world might never exist again.
At that moment, a huge black bird flew in from afar—none other than the bird that brought rain, Shangyang. Upon seeing Wukong, Shangyang hurriedly reported to Chisongzi that Wukong had arrived on the Eastern Sea shore. Chisongzi rushed out to meet him. After exchanging a few words, the two recalled their first encounter inside the Kunpeng’s belly, filled with deep emotion.
Chisongzi said, “Nowadays, all the people in the world praise the Rain God Hall and the Earthly Goddess. Ultimately, this is your merit.”
Wukong replied, “How could the Rain God say such a thing? What we have today is the achievement of the whole world, not just mine.”
Chisongzi said, “Wukong, don’t be too modest. If Tathagata and the Heavenly Court still existed, how could things have settled down?”
Speaking of the Heavenly Court, Wukong suddenly thought of the Queen Mother. Though the Heavenly Court had disappeared, the Queen Mother of the West had changed her appearance and existed as the Yellow-Horned Immortal. She and Tathagata had a deep-seated enmity. Previously, when Tathagata hid, the Queen Mother couldn’t find him to avenge herself. Now that Tathagata had abandoned the Buddhist hell and appeared in the world, it was only a matter of time before she encountered him—another great battle was inevitable.
In terms of strength, although Tathagata only had the Great Sun Tathagata by his side, the Yellow-Horned Immortal and those twenty-odd sages were no match for him. But this was a personal grudge between the Queen Mother and Tathagata, and Wukong had no desire to get involved. He didn’t really feel anything toward the Queen Mother—only that both she and the Jade Emperor were somewhat pitiable.
At that moment, the waves of the Eastern Sea surged, and four figures emerged—none other than the four Dragon Kings of the four seas. It turned out that after the construction of the Rain God Hall, the Dragon Kings had all moved to the Eastern Sea to obey orders at any time. As they were already in charge of rain-related affairs worldwide and highly skilled in various methods of bringing rain, coupled with the large number of dragons in the four seas, they greatly assisted Chisongzi.
The Four Seas Dragon Kings came before Chi Songzi and saw that Wukong was also there. They hurried forward to pay their respects. Wukong told them to stand up. Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, said, “We’ve come today to ask the Rain God for leave.”
“Oh?” Chi Songzi was puzzled. It was indeed unusual for all the Four Seas Dragon Kings to ask for leave at the same time.
Wukong laughed and asked, “Could it be that some dragon clan is holding a wedding, or is the Ancestral Dragon hosting a banquet?”
Ao Guang replied, “Great Sage, to be honest, someone has indeed invited us, but not for drinking—rather, to watch a play.”
“Watch a play? What kind of play, and why should we all go?” Wukong was surprised.
Ao Guang said, “Let the Great Sage take a look.” With that, he handed Wukong a letter.
Wukong opened the letter and skimmed through it. He thought to himself, As one wishes, so it happens. The letter was written by Fu Hai Jiao. It read roughly: In the past, the Jiao clan was exterminated by the Queen Mother. We have never dared forget this. Now that our enemy has been captured, we invite all dragon clans in the world to witness our act of revenge. The Jiao and dragon clans are originally one family. The other five dragon kings have already arrived. I hope the Four Seas Dragon Kings will not break their promise. The signature read “Fu Hai Jiao of the Northern Sea.”
Fu Hai Jiao held great prestige among the dragon clans. He was on good terms with the five dragon kings and possessed profound cultivation. What was most remarkable was that, despite his strength, he never disturbed the aquatic creatures of the four seas. Over the years, they had lived in harmony. He had even once defeated a hundred thousand heavenly soldiers with his Fu Hai Whip. The Four Seas Dragon Kings surely had to honor him.
Wukong said, “How about I go with you?”
Ao Guang was overjoyed upon hearing this. “If the Great Sage comes with us, Fu Hai Jiao will be even happier.”
Wukong bid farewell to Chi Songzi and set off with the Four Seas Dragon Kings toward the Northern Sea. The reason Wukong wanted to join them was out of curiosity. He was well aware of Fu Hai Jiao’s abilities, but who was Huang Jiao the Great Immortal? He was a supreme expert at the level of a Heavenly Sage. Among those in Qi Tian Ling, aside from Yin Yang, who else dared claim they could capture Huang Jiao the Great Immortal?
It was certain that Fu Hai Jiao must have invited others for help. But no matter how much Wukong thought about it, he couldn’t see any reason why Yin Yang, who had no close relationship with Fu Hai Jiao, would assist him.
Upon arriving at the Northern Sea, the five of them entered the water and soon reached Fu Hai Jiao’s palace.
Fu Hai Jiao came out to greet them. Seeing Wukong, he was overjoyed. It had been a long time since they last met. He exclaimed, “Wukong, what a rare visitor! I’ve seen you busy these past years, never even catching a glimpse of you. Yet here you are without an invitation, haha!”
Wukong replied, “Fourth Brother, you didn’t really try to find me, did you? You’ve just been living your own carefree life here!”
Fuhai Jiao said, “Where’s there any leisure? Ever since the Rain God Temple was built, I’ve never had a moment to rest. Running around here and there has been quite interesting. Come on in and drink some wine while chatting!”
Upon entering the grand hall, they saw that it was filled with aquatic creatures. Many dragon descendants sat at the steps, while only five people sat on the steps—Ao Sheng and the other four dragons. Seeing that Wukong had also come, the five dragons stood up and bowed. After all, he was their savior—how could they neglect him?
Everyone sat down casually and drank a few cups. Wukong tasted the wine and said, “This wine… seems like the imperial wine from the Heavenly Court!”
Fuhai Jiao laughed heartily. “I snatched it from Old Ox. You don’t know—all the craftsmen who make the imperial wine in the Heavenly Court were taken to Qitian Ridge. How could such a great opportunity escape me?”
Wukong chatted casually with Fuhai Jiao for a while. While the two talked, the other nine dragons didn’t even get a chance to interject. Wukong, concerned about the main matter, found an opportunity to ask, “Has the enemy who destroyed your dragon clan been captured?”
Fuhai Jiao’s expression turned strange. “To be honest, it wasn’t me who captured him. Someone else brought him here.”
“Oh? Who brought him?” Wukong asked in surprise.
“Sigh, I don’t know either. That person was tied up and fell from the North Sea, as if descending from the sky,” said Fuhai Jiao.
The more Wukong thought about it, the more puzzled he became. He said, “Who exactly is it? Bring him out and let’s take a look!”
Fuhai Jiao ordered, “Bring out that man who’s neither male nor female!”
A few aquatic creatures went into a side hall and soon pulled out a person—it was none other than the Great Immortal Huangjiao! The Great Immortal Huangjiao no longer had his usual imposing presence. His eyes were tightly closed, and he was tied with no less than ten golden ropes. Upon closer inspection, Wukong saw that advanced restriction spells also bound him.
Wukong immediately realized this must be a gift from Buddha. Buddha had little to do with Fuhai Jiao—why would he hand over the Great Immortal Huangjiao to him? Wukong asked, “Is this… the Great Immortal Huangjiao?”
Fuhai Jiao replied, “Isn’t he?”
Wukong asked, “What does the Great Immortal Huangjiao have to do with your dragon clan?”
Fuhai Jiao said, “I haven’t finished yet. When that person fell, there was a piece of cloth wrapped around him, with the four characters ‘Go ask Xuan Nu’ written on it.”
Wukong nodded and said, “Did you go ask her?”
“Of course! When I asked Xuan Nu, guess what? The old lady herself came to the North Sea. After taking a look, she said this person was actually an incarnation of the Queen Mother of the West. Haha! This really came without any effort at all!”
Wukong thought to himself, “This Tathagata is truly meticulous. Since Huangjiao the Great Immortal has been captured, it’s obvious he angered Tathagata. And it’s not surprising that Tathagata knows about the feud between the Queen Mother and the Jiao clan. In the past, the Heavenly Court acted arrogantly—how could such a massive act of extermination be hidden?”
By handing Huangjiao the Great Immortal over to Fuhai Jiao, Tathagata also intended to maintain good relations with Qitianling. He knew he would eventually find out about this matter. Huangjiao the Great Immortal was now useless, but even so, Tathagata could use him to repay a favor—his plans were truly meticulous to the smallest detail.
Fuhai Jiao said that Huangjiao the Great Immortal was actually the Queen Mother, which shocked the Four Sea Dragon Kings. Everyone knew the Queen Mother had long died—how could she have transformed into Huangjiao the Great Immortal? But since Xuannv had said so, they dared not doubt it. They all stared at Huangjiao, trying to find traces of the Queen Mother in him.
Wukong said, “If he really is the Queen Mother, then he truly is your Jiao clan’s greatest enemy. I wonder what Fourth Brother plans to do to him?”
Fuhai Jiao replied, “Of course we can’t spare his life. The Jiao clan has endured for ten thousand years—all because of this man. Do you think I should let him go?”
Wukong glanced at Huangjiao. Though captured, his cultivation hadn’t been lost; it was just that powerful arrays on his body had sealed his powers. Having reached the realm of spiritual clarity, Wukong couldn’t see those arrays very clearly. But he could be sure that with Fuhai Jiao’s abilities, he probably couldn’t even destroy Huangjiao’s physical body. In other words, even if Huangjiao was asleep, Fuhai Jiao still couldn’t kill him.
But once Huangjiao woke up and broke free from the constraints, it would likely lead to disaster for the North Sea.
After thinking it over, Wukong realized he couldn’t just stand by. The Queen Mother had held a high position for many years, skilled in scheming, and had harmed countless people. Her fate wasn’t worth pitying.
Wukong said, “This man is extremely powerful. If you really want to take his life, it’s best to seek help from Xuannv and the Three Pure Ones. Otherwise… it won’t be easy.”
“Oh?” Fuhai Jiao knew Wukong’s cultivation was extremely high now, so he surely wasn’t trying to flatter him. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he said, “I originally planned to gather my clan members today to witness my Jiao clan’s revenge. If that’s the case, it seems this ‘play’ won’t be possible.”
Wukong suggested, “He can’t move anymore. Killing him is pointless. Why don’t you consult Xuannv and let her give you some advice?”
Fuhai Jiao asked, “How about you give me some advice?”
Wukong shook his head and said, “Don’t put me in a difficult position. After all, this is your family matter. Xuan Nu isn’t closely related to you, so it’s easier for her to make a decision. If I get involved, I’ll inevitably show bias.” Though he said this, he really didn’t want to take action. Not to mention killing Huang Jiao, even if he only disabled Huang Jiao’s cultivation, Fuhai Jiao would undoubtedly kill Huang Jiao right away, which would be no different from him killing someone himself. You see, Huang Jiao the Immortal isn’t just controlled by the Queen Mother; he also has his own divine will. So killing this one in front of him is equivalent to killing two people. As for Huang Jiao the Immortal himself, since he always obeys orders, it actually isn’t such a big deal. Xuan Nu and the Queen Mother have some old feelings for each other; hopefully, Huang Jiao’s life can be spared. Other than this extremely dangerous presence with its high cultivation level, that would be ideal.
