Volume 4: The Revelation Revealed – Chapter 490: Finding a New Way to Make a Living
Wang Lingguan’s heart tightened in shock. He never expected that spear to be able to shoot fire as well. The two were extremely close, and the fireball hit right on Wang Lingguan’s chest, creating a hole that went through him from front to back before emerging from his back.
Wang Lingguan let out a painful scream. Fortunately, the injury was to his right chest and not life-threatening. With just one move, he realized he couldn’t defeat this little kid, so he feinted and fled into the distance. There was no time to worry about anything else—survival came first.
The other three Heavenly Kings also didn’t hesitate and fled frantically into the distance. Honghai Er had no intention of chasing after them. The White Rhinoceros King was the most severely injured, but it was all external injuries that would heal with time.
Of course, the White Rhinoceros King could no longer return to the Hall of the Earthly Goddess, so he went back to Qitian Ridge with Honghai Er. Once there, the White Rhinoceros King found a place to heal his wounds. Honghai Er searched around but couldn’t find the Bull Demon King. It turned out that after the last battle, the Bull Demon King would sometimes go to Cuiyun Mountain to spend time with the Rakshasi Woman, and other times go to Jilei Mountain to live with Hu Yu—leading a rather carefree life.
Over time, the Rakshasi Woman also learned that the Bull Demon King had someone else outside. Filled with anger, she went to the Lord Laozi in the Douluo Palace to seek justice, but Laozi was not there either, so she had to leave in frustration.
When Honghai Er arrived at Cuiyun Mountain, the Rakshasi Woman was dressing in her cave. Seeing her son descend from the sky, she was overjoyed and hugged Honghai Er, crying bitterly.
Honghai Er comforted his mother for a while before saying, “Mother, you are also a practitioner of cultivation. How can you allow your emotions to get the better of you?”
With no one else to talk to, the Rakshasi Woman told Honghai Er about the Bull Demon King having an affair elsewhere. To her surprise, after thinking for a while, Honghai Er stammered, “One is my father, the other is my mother… this…”
The Rakshasi Woman sighed and said, “It’s hard for you to deal with these matters. Never mind.”
Honghai Er stood up and said, “I’m going to look for Father.”
The Rakshasi Woman was shocked and asked, “What do you plan to do?”
Honghai Er replied, “I want to see what that woman looks like. How could she make Father ignore his family?”
The Rakshasi Woman worriedly said, “Don’t fight her. Your father… How about I go with you?”
Honghai Er waved his hand and said, “How could I fight Father? That would be utterly unfilial. Don’t worry, Mother. I have other matters to attend to while looking for Father.”
Seeing that Honghai Er had grown much taller and became much more sensible in his speech, the Rakshasi Woman felt relieved and said, “Go early and return early, my child.”
Red Boy arrived at Jilei Mountain. Seeing how tall the peak was, even surpassing Cuiyun Mountain, he remembered his mother crying from sorrow over it, which made him feel disgusted. He raised his fire spear, and a blazing red column of fire shot out, landing on the peak’s summit. This fire was extraordinary—even the rocks on the summit were melted by its heat. Red Boy swung his spear, flattening the entire peak.
The rocks rolled down into the valley with a thunderous roar, startling the Bull Demon King and Hu Yu inside the cave. The Bull Demon King stepped out, puzzled as to who would dare disturb this place. When he saw it was his own son, he was initially overjoyed at his son’s return. But why would Red Boy come to Jilei Mountain to cause trouble? After a moment’s thought, he guessed—who else but the Rakshasi could have taught Red Boy to come here?
The Bull Demon King smiled and went up to him, saying, “Son, when did you return?” Seeing that his father wasn’t angry but instead smiling, Red Boy became even more convinced that the Bull Demon King was hiding something. He scowled and ignored him. The Bull Demon King’s expression turned stern, “What, you no longer recognize your father?” Red Boy asked, “What are you doing here, Father?” The Bull Demon King was stunned and stammered, “I’m here to meet an old friend.” Red Boy sneered, “I doubt it’s just an old friend.” The Bull Demon King said, “Children, don’t meddle in adults’ affairs.” Red Boy leaped down to the cave below, saying, “I want to see what this so-called ‘old friend’ looks like.” The Bull Demon King hurriedly tried to stop him, saying, “You kid, you’ve already destroyed someone’s mountain—do you still want to cause trouble?” Red Boy replied, “Hmph, I’m just seeking justice for my mother!” At that moment, a middle-aged beautiful woman emerged from the cave and said coldly, “Who wants justice?” The Bull Demon King was shocked—this incident had even disturbed Qingqiu, who was in seclusion. Red Boy glanced at Qingqiu and asked, “Is it you who seduced my father?” Qingqiu couldn’t help but laugh, saying, “Niu Er is my junior—what nonsense are you talking?” Seeing the Bull Demon King’s respectful attitude toward Qingqiu and her graceful demeanor, Red Boy began to believe her. At the same time, he grew confused—had he really misunderstood his father? Qingqiu instantly lost her smile and said sternly, “Was it you who destroyed my Jilei Mountain?” Red Boy puffed out his chest and said, “So what if it was me?” Qingqiu nodded and said, “Good, then I’ll teach you a lesson so that children won’t cause trouble everywhere.” The Bull Demon King frantically waved his hands behind Red Boy, but Qingqiu ignored him. Red Boy laughed and said, “If you can really defeat me, I won’t come to your Jilei Mountain again.” Qingqiu replied, “Fine! You go first—if I manage to dodge, it counts as a loss for me.”
Hong Haier sneered, “If you don’t dodge, I’ll take your life with just one move!”
Qing Qiu was surprised and laughed, “Fine, then come at me.”
Seeing Qing Qiu’s fearless attitude, Hong Haier felt resentful. His fire was the essence of nine days—his unique physique allowed him to refine such fire within his body. Though it appeared to be ordinary flame, it was actually unbearably hot, capable of melting gold and breaking iron with ease.
Hong Haier said, “Then be careful. If you dare not confront me, just dodge.” He opened his mouth and spat out a blazing column of fire, shooting like a gun at Qing Qiu.
Seeing the fire burning the void with a roaring sound, Qing Qiu realized it was nothing ordinary. She focused her energy, drawing a circle in front of her. As the fire column reached the circle, it seemed to be swallowed by the void and vanished mysteriously.
Seeing Qing Qiu calmly absorb the fire column, Hong Haier’s expression changed drastically. Gnashing his teeth, he grunted and flew away. As he had said earlier, if he couldn’t kill Qing Qiu in one move, he shouldn’t return to Jilei Mountain—why stay here then?
The Bull Demon King smiled bitterly, bowed to Qing Qiu, and chased after Hong Haier, saying, “Son, Senior Qing Qiu is already a Hunyuan Golden Immortal. It’s not surprising you lost to her.”
Hong Haier thought his true fire was invincible, but he didn’t realize Qing Qiu hadn’t directly confronted it—she had used a boundary technique to contain it. He was deeply frustrated. But at least he saw no sign of his father having a new lover, so perhaps his mother had misunderstood. With that thought, he felt somewhat comforted.
Seeing the Bull Demon King’s figure fade into the distance, Qing Qiu frowned and casually sent the fire column flying outward. It shot like a meteor and landed on a distant peak, splitting that hundreds-of-zhang-tall mountain in two.
Qing Qiu murmured, “This kid wields great fire. My boundary isn’t even strong enough to contain it!”
After leaving Jilei Mountain, the father and son talked about Hong Haier’s cultivation over the past few hundred years. Hong Haier explained in detail, and when he reached the part about the White Rhinoceros King being attacked by Wang Lingguan and the Four Heavenly Kings, the Bull Demon King’s eyebrows raised. He couldn’t believe the remnants of the Heavenly Court would dare seek their own destruction—seemingly, Qitianling had been too lenient back then.
However, Wang Lingguan and the others had already fled, making it difficult to track them now. But as long as they were still alive, they would eventually run into each other. Qitianling had spies everywhere in the world—how could they possibly escape?
Meanwhile, Wang Lingguan and the Three Heavenly Kings fled frantically northward, crossing the frozen wastelands until they reached the edge of the Golden Heaven and Silver Land. They had heard of this place before, but in the eyes of the gods in the Heavenly Court, it was a forbidden zone, accessible only to those of the rank of Hunyuan Golden Immortal or above.
Wang Lingguan glanced back at the three of them and said, “Today’s disaster is severe.” How could the Three Heavenly Kings not be aware of this? King of Holding the Country asked, “What should we do?” Wang Lingguan smiled bitterly and said, “What else can we do but hide?”
King of Hearing asked, looking at the golden sky and silver earth and facing the fierce winds, feeling uneasy, “I dare not enter this place.”
Wang Lingguan said, “The winds here are too strong for either of us to withstand, so naturally we can’t enter.”
King of Hearing asked, “Then why did we come here?”
Wang Lingguan replied, “I suddenly remembered that there is only one person in the world who can save you and me.”
“Who is it?” the three asked together.
Wang Lingguan said, “It’s Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. He can judge right from wrong and is most fair. Although we harmed the monsters in Qitianling, it was out of necessity. Only by going to Ksitigarbha can we have a fair judgment based on good and evil, and perhaps there will still be a glimmer of hope.”
King of Holding the Country hesitated and asked, “By a glimmer of hope, do you mean Ksitigarbha will protect us?”
Wang Lingguan shook his head and said, “Ksitigarbha is on good terms with Qitianling—how would he turn against us? By a glimmer of hope, I mean falling into reincarnation!”
“Ah!” The three were shocked, opening their mouths wide. King of Increasing Strength asked, “Isn’t that death?”
Wang Lingguan instead chuckled twice and said, “For others, it would indeed be death. But have you forgotten what I did before?”
The three suddenly realized and said, “The Lord of the Yama Palace!”
Wang Lingguan nodded proudly and said, “Exactly. I’ve been in the netherworld for hundreds of years, so I naturally know its rules. Reincarnation isn’t necessarily a bad thing. At the Bridge of Sorrow, I convinced the judge to let us avoid drinking the Mengpo soup—won’t we still be cultivators in the next life?”
The Three Heavenly Kings’ eyes lit up. This method… was truly a way to survive against all odds!
Reincarnation sounded like dying once again. But compared to being killed or captured by the forces of Qitianling, it was much better. As for hoping that Qitianling wouldn’t trouble them or fail to find them, that was pure delusion.
Wang Lingguan grew impatient and said, “Make up your minds quickly. We probably don’t have time to think much.”
After hesitating for a while, King of Hearing was the first to speak, “I’m willing to go to the netherworld. As long as the green mountains remain, there will always be firewood!” King of Holding the Country and King of Increasing Strength followed, “Enough! Even if we’re unlucky in this life, let’s see how our fate turns in the next!”
Wang Lingguan nodded and said, “There’s no need to worry about gains and losses. The three of you have lived on Ling Mountain and in the Heavenly Court for so long and have never done anything evil. You will surely be reborn into a good family, and days of happiness lie ahead. Moreover, with your memories intact, your cultivation will be twice as effective. With our combined experience, how could we not achieve great things?”
The three nodded in agreement and said, “Then let Lingguan make the decision!”
