Volume 4: The Revelation Unveiled Chapter 470: The Transformation of the Heavenly Eagle
Wukong saw Tathagata soaring toward the highest reaches of the sky. He wanted to stop him, but his severed arm was far too powerful, making it impossible for him to escape. He could only focus entirely on dealing with the situation.
At Tathagata’s command, the Buddhas risked their lives to block Sanqing and the Five Divine Apes and others. They fought fiercely, using their most powerful techniques to break through the barrier and chase after Tathagata.
The Buddhas groaned in despair. Though they were also sages, they had only just reached the level of human sages, at least one rank below Sanqing and the Divine Apes. Despite their numbers, it was of no use.
Yuan Shi unfurled the Heaven-Confusing Banner, casting its shadow across the sky to create a path. Wang Yu led the way with his God-Slaying Circle, while the Immortal-Slaying Sword protected the flanks, following Yuan Shi as they charged forward.
The two of them rushed ahead, but the Buddha encirclement closed in instantly. The clever Divine Ape used its Wind-Flame Fan to create another path through the flames. Wu Zhiqi, Tong Feng, and Tong Bi followed the Divine Ape into the air.
The remaining Laojun and his companions were alone and unable to escape. They could only fight their way back, hoping that the Five Divine Apes and Yuan Shi could stop Tathagata from seizing the Creation Furnace.
At this moment, the Eight Medicine Buddhas changed their position. Tathagata flew straight upward to the peak, while the Creation Furnace was located high above the Peach Tree Mother, guided by a Creation Path. Few people knew of this.
But the Five Divine Apes belonged to the Creation lineage, so they immediately sensed something was amiss. Yuan Shi, having been here before, knew the exact location of the Creation Furnace. The six of them moved up the Creation Path much faster than the Eight Medicine Buddhas.
In a short while, the two groups arrived at a place with fierce gales. High in the sky hung a tiny furnace, no larger than a palm, yet it remained motionless despite the strong winds.
Tathagata pushed off with his feet, leaping onto the head of the Medicine Buddha and heading straight for the Creation Furnace, seemingly within reach. Yuan Shi shouted, “How dare you!” He threw his Chaos Yellow Flag, which swept through the air. The Creation Furnace was right there, but Tathagata grasped nothing.
The Five Divine Apes understood immediately and attacked the Seven Medicine Buddhas. By then, Yuan Shi had arrived, swinging his Heaven-Confusing Banner at Tathagata’s back. Tathagata realized the Chaos Yellow Flag was incredibly powerful. The illusion he had used earlier was Yuan Shi’s technique of combining formations with an illusory realm, creating a mix of reality and falsehood that was hard to distinguish.
He dodged the Heaven-Confusing Banner and turned to Yuan Shi, saying, “How dare you attack me?”
On Kunlun Island, the situation had become bizarre. Bodhisattva Ni Li failed in his attack and was trapped by countless Enlightened Beasts. He regained consciousness quickly but dared not enter the Nine-Layer Fortified City again.
Lu Wu led the Kai Ming Beast to defend Zeng City, ignoring everything outside the city. Although the Jade Emperor was dead, Lu Wu still did not know that the Queen Mother had also been destroyed by the Buddha’s tactics. Back then, Lu Wu was just an ordinary immortal official. He possessed a natural ability to communicate mentally with the ancient divine beast, the Kai Ming Beast. When discovered by the Queen Mother, he was regarded as a precious treasure, and she granted him authority. On Kunlun Island, no one could command Lu Wu; he only obeyed the Queen Mother’s orders.
Lu Wu had not handed over his soul energy to her. Everything he did was to repay her for recognizing his talents. He knew that although his cultivation level was higher, the people who had come today were far stronger than him. Without the Kai Ming Beast, he had nothing to rely on.
Bodhisattva Ni Li stepped back and looked at the nine-story Zeng City, feeling reluctant to proceed. The Kai Ming Beasts were truly extraordinary—capable of temporarily stripping people of their cultivation power—and there were so many of them. It seemed even these five hundred bodhisattvas would be of no use if they charged in.
What was more troubling was that the Nine Heavens Mystic Maiden and the demons from Qi Tian Ling were watching from the sidelines, eager to reap the benefits by letting Lu Wu and he fight to the point of mutual destruction.
Seeing that Bodhisattva Ni Li remained inactive, the Mystic Maiden understood his intentions and also watched from afar. Unexpectedly, when the Qilin saw Bodhisattva Ni Li, it became furious and shouted, “Ugly ghost, die!”
The Qilin stepped out of the formation alone, unafraid of the five hundred bodhisattvas ahead, and charged straight at Ni Li. Though it knew it was no match for him, the Qilin had grown stronger through battle and was never afraid of defeat. Zhen Wu, worried that the Qilin might suffer, smiled bitterly and hurried after it.
Without saying a word, the Mystic Maiden flashed forward, appearing ahead of the Qilin, and pointed at Ni Li from afar.
The Qilin roared in displeasure at the Mystic Maiden taking its opponent, but knowing it couldn’t defeat her, it transformed back into its original form and charged into the crowd of bodhisattvas with all four feet.
Dayu, Hou Yi, and others also attacked. Just a few of them were fighting against five hundred bodhisattvas!
Zhen Wu and the Qilin revealed their true forms and were invincible. Half of those five hundred bodhisattvas were Yuan Hun Jin Xian. How could they stand against these two? Even those with the cultivation level of Human Saints dared not underestimate their strength.
Bodhisattva Ni Li was angry but had no solution. Many masters in Buddhism and hell seemed to have achieved sainthood, but how could their cultivation, enhanced by secret methods, compare to that gained through solid practice? It was mostly for show.
Among the people from Qi Tian Ling, both the Qilin and Zhen Wu were kings of their kind and highly aggressive. They had fought their way through life, truly mastering combat as a path to enlightenment. With their powerful true forms and mastery of the five elements spells, they charged into the crowd of bodhisattvas like tigers among sheep, effortlessly pushing them back.
The Golden God Rushou swung his two massive axes, unleashing the extreme power of metal. Anyone touched by it saw their flesh burst open and blood fly everywhere. Although the Wood God Jumang had abandoned the Tree of Immortality, holding a blade in his hand, his desire to kill grew even stronger. Hurt by Zhu Rong and Hou Yi with the Mud Plow, he harbored deep hatred for the people of the Buddhist hell realms—no longer the gentle ancient Wood God, but rather a sinister figure in green. With that blade, he severed countless magical artifacts belonging to the bodhisattvas. The Fire God Zhu Rong held up a mass of purple-black flames in his hands; whenever someone approached, he would shoot out a burst of fire. Who could withstand such fierce flames? In this battlefield, she became the most unpopular figure, with no one around her to fight against, forcing her to search for opponents on her own.
The busiest among them were the Bull Demon King, the Golden-Winged Roc, and the Nine-Spirit Sage. Among this group, they had the lowest cultivation levels and were already surrounded by six or seven bodhisattvas. The Bull Demon King roared angrily, revealing his true form with blood-red eyes, and charged at two bodhisattvas. The Nine-Spirit Sage also showed off his nine heads, letting out a roar that brought dark clouds swirling across the sky as countless gods, demons, and spirits in black robes and armor rushed at the bodhisattvas. This was the Nine-Spirit Mystic Art—a divine ability of the Nine-Spirit Sage that could reach the Three Saints above and the netherworld below with just one roar. Thanks to this power, his cultivation had always surpassed that of the Golden-Winged Roc and the Bull Demon King, as it was easy to acquire. Now, he was nearing the level of a sage.
Though these black-robed, armored gods and demons couldn’t harm the bodhisattvas, they still disrupted their focus. The Bull Demon King stepped on a precious vase held by one of the bodhisattvas. The bodhisattva trembled, but a withered hand bone emerged from the vase and clamped onto the Bull Demon King’s leg. The Bull Demon King let out a light exclamation—how could he, known as the Mighty Bull Demon King, fear a struggle? With a powerful kick, he flipped dozens of feet in the air, but behind that hand bone was an extremely long arm that held on tightly despite his leaps. A sickly green glow emerged from the vase, spreading up the arm bone and reaching the palm in moments.
The Bull Demon King knew this green color must be a rare and deadly poison. If it touched his body, it would cause serious trouble. He was right—this bodhisattva was an outer disciple of the Mud Plow Bodhisattva, and the poison in the vase was left by Xiang Liu. Even the True Warrior Qilin would find it difficult to eliminate such poison quickly. Just as the Bull Demon King was at a loss, a green shadow flew by, followed by a white light that severed the hand. It was none other than the Nine-Tailed Fox of Qingqiu. The white light came from her palm—her claws, which she rarely showed to others.
The bodhisattva’s metacarpals were broken, as if the pain affected her directly; her brows furrowed in agony. Then she raised her arm, seemingly intending to pour out all the poisonous liquid from the precious vase. The Bull Demon King and Qingqiu hurriedly dodged. The bodhisattva only completed half of her movement before stopping abruptly. The poisonous liquid from the vase splashed all over her head and face, turning this majestic bodhisattva into ashes in an instant. Qingqiu, with her sharp eyes, had already seen a small feathered arrow stuck in the bodhisattva’s chest. Hou Yi, ignoring this armed bodhisattva, continued to move among them, shooting calmly wherever he saw trouble. The Bull Demon King muttered “Shameful,” but his fighting spirit grew even stronger. He rushed at another bodhisattva and saw a Golden-Winged Roc and a bodhisattva of sage-level cultivation fighting fiercely in the sky. The bodhisattva’s cultivation was far higher than that of the Golden-Winged Roc, but her agility was far inferior. The Golden-Winged Roc moved so swiftly that its shadow was hard to spot. Yet, as a sage, it possessed extraordinary abilities. With a wave of its sleeves, the bodhisattva altered the spatial atmosphere around it, making the roc feel as if its wings were tied and it was stuck in mud. At that moment, a strange and dangerous aura came from behind. The roc flapped its wings to defend itself, only to collide with some magical weapon. A powerful force caused severe pain in its bones and muscles. It quickly leaped forward to stabilize itself, only to see another attack coming from behind. The roc immediately realized it had entered the bodhisattva’s domain, and continuing like this would only result in its defeat. It managed to dodge the attack and tried hard to think of a strategy. In this domain, its movements were much slower, and its speed advantage was gone. Its cultivation level was also inferior to that of the bodhisattva. After struggling to circle around, it finally saw that the bodhisattva was holding a tin staff, advancing toward it with a cruel smile. With the power of a sage, defeating a Hunyuan Golden Immortal of a lower cultivation level in its own domain shouldn’t be too difficult. The bodhisattva swung its tin staff, attacking with each move, clearly determined to grind the roc to death. After dodging several times, the roc failed to avoid another strike, taking a hit to its left shoulder that caused excruciating pain. The bodhisattva turned the tin staff around, its other end sharp like a spear, and thrust it at the roc’s chest. The roc seemed to have lost all strength, reacting half a beat too late. The tip of the spear was almost about to pierce its chest feathers. At that moment, disbelief appeared in the bodhisattva’s eyes—the roc had disappeared right before it! Soon after, fear flashed in the bodhisattva’s gaze. Before it could dodge, a sharp beak appeared out of nowhere in its chest. Its eyes bulged in despair and shock. Even at the moment of death, it didn’t understand how the roc had done it.
