Volume 4: The Revelation Revealed – Chapter 398: Arrow into Holiness
Wukong was too lazy to explain and snapped, “Go ask Buddha!”
The Medicine Buddha replied, “Of course I will ask, but you must confront me in person first.” With that, he formed a dharma seal with both hands, creating a lotus shape, which floated gently toward Wukong.
Wukong didn’t dare neglect it and met it with his Tianji Stick. When the lotus touched the stick, he felt a hidden force surge from it. Not daring to let go, he endured the strike.
This force penetrated deep into his body, causing his limbs to ache and numb, while an invisible force also attacked his dantian. At that moment, Wukong felt the two leaves of yin and yang suddenly enlarge, covering the Hunyuan Dao Fruit tightly. When the hidden force struck the leaves, they trembled twice before dissipating it.
Wukong was slightly surprised but remained calm, sneering, “Is that all you’ve got?”
The Medicine Buddha let out a soft exclamation. His lotus dharma seal was extraordinary; if the recipient’s cultivation was insufficient, it could destroy their dantian in one strike, leaving them powerless to fight back. Yet this monkey seemed unharmed?
Wukong swung his Tianji Stick at the Medicine Buddha. Standing over ten zhang tall, his stick was thicker than a millstone. Unexpectedly, the Medicine Buddha neither dodged nor avoided, and the other six Buddhas around him stepped in to block his strike.
Among the Eight Buddhas, only Buddha wasn’t present, so this formation had a slight flaw. Although the Tianji Stick was blocked, it injured one of the Buddhas. Wukong saw blood seep from the face of the Buddha above the Medicine Buddha, struck by the edge of the stick.
Since becoming holy, Wukong had felt something strange when holding the Tianji Stick. Was this weapon a stick? A knife? An axe? Every time he used its techniques, the wind it generated was several times sharper than a steel blade. Previously, the King of Treasure Canopies had lost an arm after being struck by the tip of the stick.
In the blink of an eye, the wound on that Buddha’s face healed completely. Thinking he had misseen it, Wukong heard Qilin say, “These people have healing spells. You must strike them fatally!”
Wukong was highly sensitive to fate. He immediately realized that the Yakshas behind them were chanting scriptures to gather fate energy to heal them. Before he could come up with a plan, a huge white circle descended from the sky and fell into the crowd of Yakshas. The circle was dozens of zhang in diameter. It was white when it fell and turned red when it rose, with blood and broken limbs falling everywhere. The area it covered became a sea of blood!
The King of Yuyin appeared, scattering blood for miles!
These Yakshas had low cultivation levels; how could any Buddha be willing to protect them? Six of those twelve Yaksha generals flew out to capture Wang Yu. The Bull Demon King and the Nine Spirits Sage rushed forward and knocked down those six with just a few punches and kicks. The Nine Spirits Sage took two of them in his mouth and gnawed off their thighs with a crunching sound.
The Qilin, enraged, leaped over and kicked the Nine Spirits Sage in the buttocks, shouting, “Spit them out!” The Nine Spirits Sage dared not disobey and spat out the two half-swallowed, bloody legs. The Qilin spat and cursed, “How could you even think of eating such filthy bald monks? All my years of teaching have been in vain!”
The Bull Demon King laughed heartily and said, “Elder brother, don’t be desperate!”
Meanwhile, Wang Yu continued to slaughter mercilessly. With each swing of her Divine Slicing Circle, she took hundreds of lives. Seeing Wang Yu’s calm demeanor as if she were a god of death, Wukong thought to himself that the Divine Sacred Ape’s cultivation had improved greatly, and her Divine Slicing Circle was even more powerful than before.
The Medicine Buddha commanded as many as 84,000 Yakshas, but they still couldn’t withstand Wang Yu’s relentless attacks. From the Buddha camp, over a dozen Buddhas and venerables flew out to capture Wang Yu.
The Fire God Zhu Rong roared, and a sea of fire descended from the sky, instantly drowning thousands of Yakshas. The Golden God immediately understood Zhu Rong’s intention and also cast a spell, causing thousands of blades to appear out of thin air, piercing through flesh and organs. Zhu Rong had participated in the battle on Mount Ling and knew that the Medicine Buddha’s true strength lay not in himself but in those 84,000 Yakshas. Wang Yu saw the key to victory at a glance. Naturally, she was surrounded by the Buddhas. If she went to rescue Wang Yu, it would be falling for their strategy of luring her away from the real threat. Instead, they decided to attack the enemy’s weak point together, leaving Mount Ling unprepared.
Those over a dozen figures scattered and attacked Zhu Rong, Ru Shou, and Wang Yu. Knowing Zhu Rong and Ru Shou’s strength, the Qilin managed to hold them off for a while before coming to protect Wang Yu.
Another three figures—Buddha of Guiding to Truth, Buddha of the World Lamp, and Buddha of Melodic Sound—headed straight for Feng Tong to seize Tang Seng’s body from his arms. Amidst the chaos, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva kept his eyes fixed on Tang Seng. Seeing the three Buddhas approaching, he stepped forward to block them. Realizing Ksitigarbha’s strength, those three didn’t dare attack head-on and instead circled around them, fighting in a circle.
Wukong confronted the Medicine Buddha. Neither of them moved. Wukong began to feel suspicious. Why hadn’t the people from Mount Ling rushed all at once to seize Tang Seng, when they had come to get him? Why send only three people, who were clearly no match for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva? What exactly did those Buddhas and venerables standing behind want?
Wukong stepped back a few steps and watched the battle coldly. In just a moment, he realized that those surrounding Wang Yu were the true masters. Qilin was at a disadvantage, fighting three opponents at once, while Wang Yu was tightly held by the other two venerables, unable even to retrieve his Divine Slicing Circle. Wukong quickly rushed over to help, slightly easing the situation.
As soon as Wukong arrived, several more people joined the fight. Each of them had reached the level of sainthood and quickly forced the two into a defensive stance.
Wukong suddenly understood that their goal might not be solely Tang Seng! With the Death of the Yin-Yang Divine Ape, the other divine apes would surely come to investigate. Buddha sent such a large force this time to capture them all! Wu Zhiqi and the Clever Divine Ape, not understanding what was going on, also came to help. Yet even the four of them could not match seven or eight Buddha venerables.
A strong sense of crisis arose in Wukong’s heart. Buddha had really gone all out this time—probably all his forces on Mount Lingshan had been mobilized. He had just achieved sainthood and was full of confidence, but he still lacked the ability to turn the situation around.
At that moment, the Medicine Buddha moved forward and approached Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, attacking without saying a word. Seeing this strong reinforcement, Ksitigarbha shouted, “Medicine Buddha, aren’t you afraid I’ll save you?”
The Medicine Buddha smiled faintly and said, “Your Rod of Good and Evil isn’t invincible either. Go ahead and try.” Ksitigarbha knew full well that his Rod of Good and Evil had been defeated by Buddha last time. Though powerful, its weakness lay in its slow speed and inability to act instantly. If the opponent was willing to use people as shields, the rod would be useless.
Dayu and Hou Yi saw that Wukong and his companions were struggling to hold their ground. Frowning deeply, Dayu firmly ordered Hou Yi, “Kill them!”
Hou Yi already had his giant bow in hand. Having followed Dayu for so long, he would never kill lightly unless it was absolutely necessary. Upon hearing Dayu’s command, a white feathered arrow was instantly released.
The Clever Divine Ape was using an iron rod to fend off a massive Vajra Mace. His knuckles were already cracked, and blood seeped from the corners of his mouth. Realizing he could no longer fight, he suddenly felt the pressure on his hand lessen. The venerable from Mount Lingshan before him had two blood holes appearing on each temple, and his head fell straight down.
Wu Zhiqi fought desperately against one Buddha and one venerable. Although they had no weapons, their cultivation was far superior to his. Fortunately, he could still use his water control powers to come up with ingenious tactics in critical moments, but prolonging the fight would only lead to defeat. Suddenly, a white light flashed, and a feathered arrow pierced through the Buddha’s left chest and then into the venerable’s right side, disappearing completely!
This arrow was Hou Yi’s most precious treasure, called the “Armor-Piercing Arrow.” With a single shot, he killed three men, yet showed no trace of pride, sighing, “For the first time in my life, I’ve attacked someone secretly.”
Dayu said, “How absurd! If the divine ape is in trouble, so what if it bears a bad reputation?” Dayu revealed the Yu Ding and covered the three opponents of Wukong, while he himself leaped in front of Wang Yu to take a strike from the two opponents.
This sudden turn of events left Ling Shan without its three top experts, and instantly the balance of power shifted. The Qilin’s morale soared as their punches, accompanied by purple flames, drove back their opponents. They laughed loudly, “You shouldn’t have come to watch!” Dayu said solemnly, “I feared there might be more tricks in the West, so I didn’t act.”
Once the situation eased slightly, Wang Yu’s first move was to retrieve his Divine Slaying Circle. He stroked it several times angrily and muttered, “It still needs refinement!” Wu Zhiqi was both surprised and impressed, staring at Hou Yi in admiration. Such archery skills could indeed be described as defying the heavens.
Hou Yi stood far away from the battle, his giant bow always drawn. Though he posed a great threat to the Buddhas of Ling Shan, Ling Shan’s target this time wasn’t him. Without the Medicine Buddha giving orders, no one dared to attack him. To put it bluntly, with Hou Yi’s giant bow in hand, who would dare to seek trouble?
Wukong had long seen through Hou Yi’s cultivation level. Last time he saw him, he was at the peak of the Hunyuan Golden Immortal stage, but now he had reached the Saint realm—a truly astonishing progress. Yet he didn’t know that Ranting Lamp’s words had awakened Hou Yi, saving him countless detours. Wukong sighed, “Reaching the Saint realm through archery—what a naturally gifted talent!”
The Qilin laughed, “If one’s mindset is right, even a broom or dustpan can reach the Saint realm!” As he spoke, he moved swiftly, arriving before the Nine Spirits Sacred Saint and the Bull Demon King like thunder. With three punches, he drove back the three nobles, then turned to attack the Medicine Buddha.
With Hou Yi and Dayu stepping in, the pressure on everyone decreased significantly, but it was still not enough to turn the tide. Wukong began to consider retreating.
Just then, another anomaly occurred. Three figures rose from the ground, gradually emerging from the clouds. Upon closer inspection, they were the same three men Hou Yi had shot down earlier.
These men had been killed by Hou Yi. Even if they had the ability to feign death, it was impossible for their combat strength to recover so quickly. Wukong exclaimed, “Zombies!”
Looking closely at these three men, their eyes werefeverish and vacant, their bodies stiff as wood, yet they stared fixedly at their former opponents. After a brief pause, they attacked like a storm. Wang Yu took a few blows and felt that his opponents fought recklessly, only attacking without defending. Wu Zhiqi blocked their attacks while shouting, “What kind of evil magic is this?”
Naturally, no one here could answer. The Lingshan cultivation method was already extremely strange; if everyone could rise from death, there would be no need to fight at all, and Qitianling would surely be defeated.
From afar, Ksitigarbha King shouted, “This is the evil art of Vairocana the Corpse Buddha. He specializes in controlling corpses—be careful!”
Upon hearing this, Wukong was filled with terror. He hurriedly shouted at Fengtong, “Quick, get rid of Tang—” Before he could finish, Tang Seng’s eyes suddenly opened, and his pale hands instantly became incredibly strong as he tightly choked Fengtong’s throat!
