Chapter Eleven: Working Together
The guard rushed over in a hurry, giving Komer a bad feeling. When the letter in his hands was handed to Komer, he couldn’t help but wonder—who could possibly send a letter at this moment?
The delicate handwriting on the letter seemed familiar. Komer immediately recognized it as Lenta’s handwriting, which only deepened his confusion. Why would Lenta travel thousands of miles from Poznan to send a letter? Had some urgent situation arisen in Poznan again?
After skimming through it, Komer’s expression turned grave. Fran also sensed the change in his master’s mood—surely it was bad news that made Komer so upset. He just didn’t know what the problem was.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Komer realized the complexity of the situation. The Anson family must have received quite accurate information. Kakiya and Hoffman, along with representatives from Calais and Silesia, had secretly met in Gothenburg. What did this mean? It was obvious to anyone—seems the worst-case scenario had indeed occurred. The Romanov family finally couldn’t hold back and would end up on the opposing side. This meant that even the Blue Dove Regiment and the Golden Oak Regiment he had initially predicted had to be taken into account, plus Calais’s existing military forces. The balance of power in this war, which had initially favored them, was slowly shifting in favor of the enemy.
Fran took the letter from Komer’s hands, frowning slightly. The addition of the Blue Dove Regiment and the Golden Oak Regiment wouldn’t change the basic outcome of the war. Fran didn’t think these two regiments could reverse the situation, but it was still a bad sign.
“Fran, it seems the tree wants peace but the wind keeps blowing. Those in the Romanov family can’t stay idle anymore. What do they want? To help the people of Calais defeat us and take a share, or do they dream of restoring their family’s former glory?”
“Maybe both. But they underestimate us too much and think the people of Calais are too simple. No matter who wins this war, one thing is certain—the Romanov family can never return to how they were before. Once the foundation is lost, there can be no more grand building on top of it.” Fran shook his head. “If I were Hoffman, I wouldn’t get involved, at least not so openly. He overestimates the strength of the people of Calais.”
“That’s a warning for us. Maybe more troublemakers will show up,” Komer said coldly.
“Do you mean those guys from the Light Church, the Tribunal, and Vazinki’s forces?” Fran nodded.
“Hmm, we can’t underestimate our opponents. Desperate people will do anything—they might unite by any means necessary.” Komer lowered his head, pondered for a moment, then said, “Maybe we should make new plans as well. It would be a huge joke if things went wrong right at the last moment.”
Seeing the agile figure approaching, a brighter glow appeared in Kent’s eyes. It was said that Trajan had been severely injured in the battle at Marco’s Prison Tower, but it didn’t seem as bad as imagined—at least on the surface, he still maintained a high level of skill.
The Rema Knights and the Sky Eagle Knights had been competing for second place among the knight orders on the Azure Continent. Aside from the seemingly unshakable position of the Wind Riding Knights, the Bohemian Magic Knights, the Rema Knights, the Sky Eagle Knights, and the Thousand Illusions Knights of the Knossos Kingdom all had their own views on this second place. These competitive relationships, along with the delicate ties between the Pericles Church and the St. Basil’s Church, made Kent’s feelings toward Trajan quite complex—he wanted to lead the Rema Knights to surpass them but didn’t want to see the Sky Eagle Knights lose their prominence.
“Lord Kent, it’s been years since we last met. It’s admirable to see you still so strong.” Trajan’s faint smile seemed sincere, and he stepped forward a few steps before their hands finally met.
It wasn’t until the moment of shaking hands that Kent realized Trajan must indeed have been badly injured in that battle. The slight fluctuations in his energy flow couldn’t be hidden at such close range, and it seemed Trajan had no intention of hiding anything either. It was unbelievable that those guys could have dealt such heavy blows to Trajan and Michelangelo at Marco’s place.
Trajan appeared calm, and the brightness in Kent’s eyes caught his attention. A pure and powerful energy stream flowed into Trajan’s body at the moment of the handshake. He raised his eyebrows in surprise and, seeing the smile in Kent’s eyes, felt moved. Though they were competitors and belonged to different factions, in terms of the dignity of warriors, the two shared a common understanding.
No matter how pure the light combat energy is, it cannot heal injuries instantly. Yet, this pure airflow from another powerful warrior can indeed help unblock the obstructed areas within Trajan’s body, laying a solid foundation for recovery. Among the warriors of the Light Church, only a few possess this ability, and Kent is one of them.
A powerful airflow rushed through Trajan’s meridians at high speed. To outsiders, the two’s handshake seemed only slightly longer than usual. But in those brief moments, the blocked and stagnant areas in Trajan’s meridians were suddenly cleared—this was the hallmark of a strong warrior.
Sensing the gratitude in Trajan’s eyes, Kent shook his head slightly. “There’s no need for that, Lord Trajan. If you were me, and I were you, you would do the same, right?”
With a casual shrug, Trajan dropped the matter. For them both, dwelling on such trivialities seemed too hypocritical.
“Lord Kent, I hope our alliance this time can cleanse the evil forces and restore clarity to Nicomedia.”
“It has always been the wish of the Ram Knights to fight against demons and evil alongside the Sky Eagle Knights. It would be a great fortune for the continent if the three major knight orders could work together to spread light across the Land of Azure,” Kent replied with a smile.
“Hehe, it is also the long-cherished desire of the Sky Eagle Knights to fight side by side with the Ram Knights. Let those dark scum see the true prowess of our Light Knights and feel the invincibility of our light force. I believe our alliance can teach those arrogant wretches a profound lesson,” Trajan said, his words revealing a hint of resentment.
