Chapter 15: Heron and Clam
The well-prepared magicians finally launched their attacks. A series of light bindings and even gravity spells immediately forced the agile Green Dragon into a desperate struggle. At the same time, offensive spells appeared in the air—thunder magic was the best against such magical beasts, as any monster would instinctively fear it. Rumbles of thunder echoed in the sky, with gusts of wind and lightning arcing violently from all directions. Desperate, the Green Dragon twisted frantically to avoid the attacks, not understanding what it had done to provoke them while playing by the lake.
Countless knights’ spears created waves of gold and silver light, generating countless sword auras and spear shadows, leaving the Green Dragon completely at their mercy. The knights moved with grace, as if strolling by the lake, their calm confidence even making Komer envious. Did these guys really think they had everything under control? No, the game had just begun, far from its end, and no one could predict the wonderful outcome.
“It’s time, Shatima. You can inform the Green Dragon’s companions.” Envious of the true knights’ elegance, Komer believed only strength could make them realize the world wasn’t as simple as they thought—it had to be proven through strength. Arrogance alone would only lead to humiliation.
Komer watched the scene with satisfaction. It was truly magnificent. Though the Green Dragon wasn’t weak, the magicians and knights before them were equally formidable. In just two rounds, they had pushed the Green Dragon into a desperate situation. If his group tried to confront them head-on, they might win but at a high cost. Now, someone—no, the Green Dragon, as a free laborer—would take care of it, leaving him to simply watch the fight.
“Hehe, no need to inform them. The Green Dragon has excellent hearing. They’ve already noticed their companions are under attack. But I can guide them to find the battlefield sooner.” Shatima was equally fascinated by the battle unfolding before her. Though she couldn’t participate, being able to observe so closely was like being there herself.
Gently pressing her mouth to the ground, Shatima let out a deep howl toward the northeast. The leaves on the ground trembled slightly as a sound wave, like a call to summon companions, instantly reached the Green Dragon herd searching for their friends.
“What sound is that?” Komer asked curiously as he watched Shatima perform this action.
“Imitate the cries of those little reptiles; these sound waves travel faster across the ground and are more accurate and clear. The little reptiles will arrive soon. Hehe, what an amazing spectacle.” Shatima’s lips curled into a demonic smile, looking especially eerie.
As the two knights’ lances pierced effortlessly through the gaps in the scales on the Green Dragon’s chest and abdomen as it struggled in the lake, its agonized screams seemed to tear through the sky. The magicians confidently put away their wands, while the knights contentedly began polishing their lances. This battle had been far too easy. They hadn’t expected the Green Dragon to be so weak as they had guessed—it seemed the ancient books and rumors were also incorrect. Seeing is believing; even the famous Green Dragon was nothing special after all.
Yet for them, this was joy ahead of time. As they gloated at the sight of the Mountain Devouring Green Dragon writhing before finally going still, the knights easily pulled back their lances that had struck its vital points. Snow-white scarves were used to wipe away the green dragon blood, while the magicians smiled contentedly, discussing how to divide the spoils before them. But at that moment, violent screeches from the sky signaled a sudden change.
Four Green Dragons that had rushed in from the lake surface immediately detected the scent of their kind’s blood. The intense stimulus drove them into a frenzied state. When they saw the lifeless body of the Green Dragon discarded on the lakeshore, their gray-green eyes turned blood red.
Without any warning, the four Green Dragons opened their dragon-like maws. Intense sound waves, like a hurricane, created huge vortices on the lake’s surface, spreading outward. The first to be hit were the two unprepared knights. When they saw the terrified expressions on their comrades’ and magicians’ faces, they only had time to turn around and see four green figures soaring in the sky before feeling a deafening roar in their ears. The powerful sound waves instantly pierced the unprepared knights’ eardrums, and the shockwaves exploded through them. From the knights’ dim eyes and bleeding noses, it was clear they were beyond saving.
Filled with grief and anger, the four knights left their severely injured comrade aside, leaped up, and thrust their three lances along with a knight’s sword—like three rising morning stars and a dazzling glow—toward the leading Green Dragon, which was snarling in the air.
The Azure Dragon also immediately realized that its opponent was not as fragile as it had imagined. A cold, electric glow, accompanied by immense sword energy, swept through the space, enveloping everything in its vicinity. By this time, the magicians had also regained their senses—four Azure Dragons! My gods! If it weren’t for the four knights in front blocking the dragons’ fierce attacks, it would have been their turn to meet their end at their claws right away.
Heavy earth shields and light shields slowly formed around the flustered magicians. At this point, they could only focus on themselves. The dragons’ sharp claws could turn fragile magicians into pieces in an instant. Who knew how long these knights could hold out? People are selfish; they wouldn’t think of anyone else until their own safety was ensured.
The lead Azure Dragon let out a fierce roar as it charged headlong into the incoming sword energy. This adult dragon’s claws were no match for the juvenile one earlier—its scaled, thick claws shattered the knight’s sword’s glowing aura with a single strike, like a sky lantern exploding. Blood gushed from the knight’s mouth as the massive force sent him flying into the lake. Without the magicians’ defensive spells, he had no chance to withstand the adult dragon’s furious attack. The adult dragon also faced difficulties—its invincible combat energy merged with the sword’s light, and its claw sent a spray of green blood into the air, causing it to cry out in pain.
Seeing the knight fall like a meteor, a juvenile dragon quickly followed up. Its thick tail swung wildly, shattering the knight’s head in an instant. The crimson blood dyed half of the lake red.
Only then did the magicians wake up from their shock. Without the knights’ frontal defense and any protection, the dragons’ lightning-fast attacks could tear them to pieces. They quickly cast numerous defensive spells, creating barriers around the knights. Unfortunately, these defenses came too late. The female Azure Dragon, heartbroken over her son’s death, twisted her massive body in the air. Her horn pushed aside the knight’s spear shooting straight at her, the spear’s gleaming tip piercing deep into the strongest part of her horn. The intense pain made her roll in the air, while her powerful tail swept out at the last moment. Even with combat energy shielding them, the knights couldn’t resist this strike, packed with centuries of power. Blood sprayed everywhere like red streaks in the air, and their twisted, pale faces showed that the lead knight was also on the verge of death after this attack.
When the knights’ resistance came to an end, it was time for the magicians’ misfortune to strike. Dark clouds rolled across the sky—these were thunder magic arrays conjured by the magicians with all their might. Unfortunately, these arrays arrived too late. For adult Azure Wyverns, such intermediate thunder magic arrays were not enough to kill them. The fury from their young ones’ tragic deaths had made them forget fear. Four wyverns took to the air: two from above and two from the flanks, attacking in unison. In a moment’s lapse, one of the young wyverns skillfully tore through the gap in a magic shield, piercing a magician’s sternum. The bloody wound reached straight into his chest, leaving him doomed. The relentless thunder strikes also knocked the young Azure Wyvern dizzy. If not for the adult wyvern shielding it with its own body, the young one would have been reduced to ashes by the combined strikes.
The adult Azure Wyvern clearly had much more experience dealing with thunder strikes. Its scales cleverly deflected the lightning arcs outside its body. Though still suffering, this allowed it to protect itself to the greatest extent possible. Its tail, dipped in water from time to time, helped dissipate the lightning arcs through the lake, preventing fatal damage to its vital organs.
Seeing the magicians being skillfully dragged out of the defense circle and killed by the coordinated attacks of the Azure Wyverns, Komer was deeply alarmed. These wyverns were truly formidable. Their innate blood connection allowed them to communicate mentally, with each member’s actions echoed by the others. Although the magicians kept using magic to create protective shields to ward off the attacks, their combined strategy clearly wasn’t effective.
When Komer noticed the earth magic magician giving signals to his companions, he realized these weaklings were about to flee. If this continued, they would all be killed here. The only option left was for each to run for their own survival, hoping for better luck—those weaker ones would inevitably become sacrifices.
“Heh, it’s our turn to step in. I’ll take care of that earth magic magician. Rebril, keep an eye on that guy named Burzin. Mihajlovic, watch that Dravak. Vladkov, make sure you keep an eye on that Shafrey. Sorenberg, the rest is up to you.” Komer laughed arrogantly. “When the fish fight, the fisherman profits. Who said that? Mr. Xuluo, these four Azure Wyverns are yours. Uma, assist them. I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
