Chapter 19: The King of Restoration
However, Komer could understand the other party’s feelings at this moment. Spending hundreds of years in an environment without any interaction with others was enough to drive anyone mad. Although she was just an otherworldly being, she possessed a mind and memory comparable to those of a normal human. Apart from lacking a physical body, she was essentially a living person.
Komer slowly took the crystal, which had faded to a dark black, from her arms and held it in her hand, as if admiring it or recalling something. Her gaze fell on the crystal—this crystal had fulfilled its historical mission; all its magic had been exhausted, and King Canifer III’s memories had been transferred intact into Komer’s mind. In a sense, King Canifer III had achieved spiritual rebirth through this method.
Intense mental fluctuations were immediately transmitted through telepathy. Though she couldn’t yet tell what judgment the other party had formed, one thing was certain: this crystal had triggered her memories.
“It’s really you! You completed the mental transfer?!” The telepathic message was filled with confusion, surprise, as well as a hint of fear and concern, but ultimately, joy prevailed. “You obtained this crystal and also gained the King’s approval?!”
“That’s right. King Canifer III has handed over everything to me, including his unfinished tasks. But it seems he has some regrets, though not any remorse.” Komer could only respond with vague statements, as she wasn’t sure what the other party was thinking at this point.
“Hmm, you’ve passed the first test. If you can also prove your skills using what you learned from the King’s memories, then it will be perfect.” The other party clearly didn’t want to accept her as her new reborn master so easily. Perhaps in her eyes, merely knowing the King’s life story was just luck. Without the King’s talent and genius, she might also be unable to control her own fate and would still have to rely on Komer to pass on these precious memories and experiences to the next successor.
“Hmm, no problem. You must be aware that Soul Binding is a spiritual magic created exclusively by King Canifer III. I think I can demonstrate it for you.” Without hesitation, Komer acted. In the memories left by King Canifer III, this spiritual magic was indeed created by him himself. Just this alone made it fitting to call King Canifer III a master genius of magic.
A tremendous sense of pressure, along with fluctuations in mental energy, spread deep into the darkness. Komer didn’t know if this would work, but he believed the other party must have a way to test whether he truly possessed Kenifer III’s true memories and instincts.
For a long time, there was silence—even the mental fluctuations seemed to cease abruptly, and telepathic communication stopped as well. This left Komer uneasy. He wondered what kind of reaction this woman, whose mind had been twisted for hundreds of years, would have. Could it be that she still thought this soul-binding tactic wasn’t enough to prove her identity?
The entire underground plaza fell into silence. Apart from the clear sounds of Komer and his group’s breathing, the undead seemed to have received orders and stopped moving altogether. For them, their master’s commands meant everything; no emotion could influence them.
Finally, the undead on the other side moved. Two giant zombie giants turned first, taking heavy yet steady steps into the darkness, their massive axes on their shoulders trembling slightly, as if regretting the unfinished battle. The soul-devouring dwarves simply spun around lightly and disappeared into the darkness. The black knights still held their bone spirit flame swords, though the dark mist had dimmed significantly. They left without stopping, followed by the skeleton warriors. Perhaps they received their orders last, as they only began to form a formation after the giant zombies vanished completely into the darkness—front ranks becoming back ranks, and back ranks becoming front ranks. The sound of their bone feet hitting the ground was particularly loud, especially in this gloomy underground plaza.
Soon, the areas illuminated by the holy light in the plaza were empty, aside from some broken corpses of magic scorpions and remnants of the Komora python. The plaza returned to calm.
No one understood what had happened, but everyone knew it must be related to Komer’s meditation earlier. But could meditation have such a powerful effect? To drive back the undead, who had the upper hand and could have slaughtered everyone, was simply unbelievable.
Only Komer understood the reason, but he still couldn’t determine what the other party would do next. At least, the safety of his group was no longer at risk—the retreat of the undead proved that.
“Respected master, it seems you have fully transformed into this young man’s body. I’m puzzled as to why you still allow him to retain his memories and consciousness. Has your mind changed?” Thoughts were transmitted through telepathy, but the content was rather amusing to Komer—this guy refused to admit he had transformed himself into a reincarnation of Kenifer III.
“I’m sorry, elder. I think there’s a misunderstanding. I’m Komer, the current lord of the Caucasus. As for Kenifer III, I’m sorry, but his consciousness has been completely erased; he no longer exists. All he left me were memories, experiences, and instructions. He himself didn’t believe that reincarnation could bring any change. Before leaving, he told me he had no regrets about his actions in life. No matter what happened, he advised me not to get trapped in the negative emotions from his memories—those were extreme thoughts from his most painful times. By his last moment, he was able to face everything calmly.” Komer had to patiently convey his own intentions and those of Kenifer III.
“Master, why are you like this? Your Majesty, can time really erase all the humiliation inflicted upon us by the Church of Light?” The other party became agitated again, with their words becoming distorted.
“Elder, the memories Kenifer III left me don’t include you. I’m sure you’ve noticed this too. His goal was probably not to pass on hatred from generation to generation. He only wanted me to understand this true history of the Dark Empire and to carry on his magical skills. As for anything else, he had no other plans. He once told me to let things take their course and not strive deliberately for anything.” Komer quickly tried to calm them down.
“Your Majesty has changed. If this is some so-called enlightenment in pursuing the way of heaven, then I’d rather not have it!” A violent aura surged before gradually subsiding. “If even Your Majesty has given up on all this, what meaning or value does my existence still hold?”
“Elder, I think Kenifer III has changed his original aspirations and is pursuing a higher realm. But that doesn’t mean I have to follow in his footsteps.” Komer felt a slight stir in his heart and consciously guided the other party’s thoughts.
“You mean you’re unwilling to follow the path Your Majesty has planned for you?” The other party wasn’t slow to understand—it seemed time hadn’t rendered a woman’s intuition useless.
“Kanifer III didn’t design any path for me. One must forge their own path—others can only offer guidance and advice. My fate must be in my own hands, just as it is for those who came before me.” Komer kept instilling in him a spirit of encouragement to ignite his ambition.
“No, I’m different. My entire life was meant for His Majesty. Since you’ve become His Majesty’s reincarnation, yet He has changed his mind, I don’t know how to face you now. Are you really His Majesty, or that little lord from the Caucasus?”
“Who I am isn’t important. Kanifer III’s change before leaving only proves he altered his intentions at that moment. But even if he returned to this world from my perspective, he might not be as enlightened. We have too much to accomplish. There are too many despicable hypocrites in this world. Perhaps it’s also our responsibility to make the air here cleaner.” Komer’s words were filled with provocation.
“Your Majesty… no, I don’t know how to address you. Your presence now is exactly like it was over three hundred years ago. I can’t tell you apart. Oh, Your Majesty, please stop teasing me. I can’t bear such cruel reality.”
Komer never expected his performance to make the other person become emotionally agitated again, even thinking he was Kanifer III’s incarnation, deliberately testing and teasing him. At this moment, he truly didn’t know what to do.
Telepathy also didn’t allow him to think privately at such a time. In an instant, Komer could only grit his teeth and say, “Elder, Kanifer III has truly left. But he entrusted everything in his heart to me without reservation. Though he changed his mind at the last moment, as his reincarnation, I feel obligated to follow my own path to fulfill his unfulfilled aspirations. I am the new Dark Lord. I will revive our Dark Dynasty.”
The telepathy suddenly broke off. In shock, Komer suddenly felt a strange energy passing by him. Telepathy resumed. “Good. I was waiting for those words. If you hadn’t said them, we would have nothing to do with each other. The Dark Dynasty doesn’t need mediocrities. The mysteries of the Dark Path require explorers with courage and determination. We need a great king to bring about revival!”
