Chapter 639: The Target of All Attacks
The moment they broke free from the Abyssal Orbit in the Hell Dimension, all the demon lords felt the wrath of the Abyssal Will. Those who could make it there set off toward the deeper layers.
Everyone knew that if they could help the Abyssal Will vent its anger, even just by contributing a little, they would receive great rewards from it and gain even greater power.
However, these demons mostly misinterpreted the Abyssal Will’s intentions. After all, it was merely a collection of various dimensional consciousnesses that couldn’t speak aloud; they could only convey their thoughts indirectly. Thus, most demon lords thought the Abyssal Will was angry over the return of King of the Undead, Oscar, whose influence still loomed large and had first caught their attention.
Moreover, Layer 422, where the changes occurred, was very close to Layer 421. In the vast Abyssal World, such a small distance between two layers meant little, so everyone headed toward the Pale Kingdom, ignoring the dimension that was gradually slipping out of the Abyss’s control.
What Donald needed to do was first allow Astymos to become a demon lord and take control of this layer, then sever this dimension from the entire Abyss.
This would not only deal a blow to the Endless Abyss—though not enough to cripple it—yet still severely weaken it. It would have to conquer another dimension to recover.
If successful, this move would also be a psychological blow to the Abyssal demon forces. And as the Abyss grew stronger and began threatening the actual interests of the gods of the Pantheon, it would earn Donald great prestige among them for his role in this.
Yet, for an Abyssal demon lord, successfully freeing his own dimension from the Abyss’s control was practically impossible.
Although the Abyssal Will had granted those demon lords control over the dimensions and given them the power of virtual divinity, the most critical authorities remained under its control. Even though it was just a collection of dimensional consciousnesses without independent thought, it wasn’t foolish. As parts of its own body, the various dimensions of the Endless Abyss naturally had to be firmly held in its grasp.
“In the name of fate, I grant this dimension freedom!”
With that, Donald took out the High Artifact, the Book of Fate, once again.
“Hurry up and act—”
Even by using the power of a high-tier artifact like the Book of Fate, it can only isolate the Will of the Abyss for a few breaths of time—this is due to Donald’s insufficient strength. If he possessed the power of an upper god now, then with the combined strength of such a high-tier artifact, he might be able to instantly sever this plane from the Abyss.
Since the Will of the Abyss is a collective consciousness of all the planes in the Abyss, it is dispersed rather than centralized, gathering only when necessary. Normally, it distributes control over the planes based on each plane’s strength and level of attention it receives.
This gives Donald a temporary chance to isolate the consciousness of this plane. Otherwise, in a sense, the strength of the Will of the Abyss is almost equivalent to that of the Supreme God, surpassing all existing upper gods. Even with two high-tier artifacts, Donald would have no chance to pull off any tricks under such a powerful entity’s watch.
However, Donald and his group’s actions have already provoked the Abyss’s wrath. It is likely that a more powerful manifestation of the Will of the Abyss will arrive soon. Although it cannot attack directly, it can take measures to have the powerful demon lords under its control launch attacks on the target.
Fortunately, the return of Oscar, the King of Undead, has drawn most of the demons’ attention, so they have not noticed them yet.
The power of the Book of Fate temporarily blocks the Will of the Abyss from controlling the core of Plane 422, allowing Astymos, who has been alerted, to erode the core unimpeded and successfully free it from a portion of the Abyss’s control.
What follows is a tug-of-war. Once the core of Plane 422 is completely freed from the Abyss’s grasp, the plane can quickly drift outside the Abyss in the void. For every fraction more control Astymos gains over the core, the Will of the Abyss’s control over this hellish plane decreases, until it is completely freed from the Abyss’s control.
What Donald needs to do is avoid drawing the attention of the Abyss’s powerful beings as long as possible before the hellish plane is freed from their control. Once discovered, he must ensure that his plan to escape the Abyss is not disrupted under the siege of numerous powerful demon lords.
From the initial Unstable Gate and Wrath of Nature, to the higher-tier artifacts Destruction Golden Body and Whip of Order, as well as the Truth Book and Book of Fate that only appear within the plane itself. Aside from the Heart of the King, he brought almost all his trump cards with the Demon Hunter avatar on this journey—a highly risky adventure for Donald as well.
So far, however, his plan seemed to be going smoothly. He had not only managed to strike at Oscar, a future formidable enemy, but was also on the verge of achieving his goal of targeting the Bottomless Abyss.
Not long ago, Donald chose to keep Oscar’s avatar alive rather than destroy it because he needed the appearance of the King of the Undead to draw the attention of other powerful beings from the abyss. While Donald feared he might struggle against the true form of the King of the Undead, an avatar that relied on external power to reach midgod level was nothing for him, given his possession of higher-tier artifacts and the Destruction Golden Body, which also granted him midgod-level strength!
Keeping Oscar’s avatar made it easier to carry out his plans and further stirred chaos within the abyss, weakening its strength so that it wouldn’t pose a threat to his domain for some time.
At this point, many demi-gods and true gods among the demon lords had gathered outside the Pale Kingdom, on the 421st layer of the abyss. Yet none of them dared to be the first to act.
After all, the infamous reputation of the King of the Undead had spread throughout the multiverse. No creator was as notorious, hated, and feared as this demon monarch who reveled in manipulating corpses, experimenting on living beings, and creating various strange undead creatures.
Even the Destruction Lord and the Fallen Lord, though perhaps slightly stronger, were no worse in terms of infamy compared to Oscar. The demons of the abyss faction also harbored immense fear toward this former one of the three great demons of the abyss.
They had gathered here first because they mistakenly believed the wrath of the Abyssal Will was caused by this King of the Undead. Second, no demon could resist the temptation of such power wielded by a demon monarch. Now, as the King of the Undead was at his weakest, it was the perfect opportunity to seize Oscar’s power. Though the chances were slim, no demon lord wanted to miss it.
As Oscar’s mortal enemies, Osthadius and Grant had also descended in their respective avatars.
The former, in their anger, immediately launched an attack on the Pale Lands, while the latter, as usual, hid in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to launch a surprise attack and see if they could take advantage of the situation.
