Chapter 487: Gathering of Good and Evil
Yet, that messenger of the Lord of Dawn was probably accustomed to the deliberate mockery from the powerful figures of Gadré, who would take every opportunity to mock them, so his expression showed no sign of surprise. Instead, as their master, he spoke out firmly to give a welcome speech, though his words carried no hint of apology. In his eyes, they were believers representing the great Lord of Dawn, and it was only right for them to make others wait a while—even if those others were the three newly ascended gods present!
King Charles of the North and Nature’s Guardian Donald merely showed a cold and indifferent expression, subtly expressing their dissatisfaction with such behavior on behalf of the Land of Dawn.
As for the other newly ascended human god, Prince Basseto, the Sea God supported by the Three Glorious Gods, his expression remained unchanged. But Donald, who knew him well, sensed that Prince Basseto must already be dissatisfied.
Originally, conflicts arose due to the differing wills, paths, and ideals of the true gods. After being deified, Basseto gradually began to resist the Lord of Dawn who had created him.
Once mutual resentment arose, it was impossible for their relationship to return to its former normalcy and harmony.
Now, not even a minor messenger of the Lord of Dawn respected him as a true god—how could this not upset Basseto?
What were messengers, after all? Simply, they were agents created by true gods to handle matters below the level of demigods that would be inconvenient for the gods to deal with themselves.
Compared to believers, although messengers could enjoy immortality alongside their true gods and possess great power, their price was the loss of almost all freedom. To the true gods, they were more like tools, and some true gods treated their messengers as if they were humble servants or slaves!
Clearly, in the eyes of the Lord of Dawn, Prince Basseto, the Sea God, did not hold much status—otherwise, they would not have sent such a messenger to humiliate him.
Although the messenger of Dawn didn’t intend to do so, the arrogance of the Lord of Dawn indeed caused this situation, further widening the rift in Prince Basseto’s heart!
Then, the messenger of Dawn continued speaking on his own: “Everyone here has one purpose: to carry out the orders of the great gods and deliver a decisive retaliation against the totem gods who have attacked our human forces! According to the instructions given by the great Lord of Dawn to his most devout servants, I shall command this battle. Now, I will assign tasks to each party…”
The messenger of the Dawn God did not finish speaking before being interrupted by Marx, a demi-god warrior under one of the three lords of the Shadow Demon City—the Shadow Sage.
“This is highly inappropriate! As the commander of this battle, it should be the strongest and wisest among us, not some puppet with narrow and extreme views. If that were the case, the people of the Shadow Demon City I represent would certainly not obey orders!”
Powerful forces from both the good and evil sides had gathered here for the sake of the New Continent. Regarding the conflict between the strong members of the righteous and neutral factions, those from the Dark Realm had simply watched with smiles, intending to let them argue among themselves.
Previously, they had merely been spectators, but now it involved their own interests. Naturally, they would not allow others to manipulate them!
If they were to accept orders from their old rivals, it would be asking for trouble. What if those rivals assigned them dangerous positions with no rewards? Wouldn’t that mean working hard for the Church of the Dawn Lord without gaining anything in return?
Thus, Marx, the oldest among the human true gods of the Dark Faction and a demi-god warrior under the Night Goddess, immediately voiced his opposition. His reasoning was supported not only by other strong members of his faction but also by many strong figures from the neutral and righteous factions.
This situation caused the messenger of the Dawn God’s face to turn pale for a moment; he clearly felt embarrassed.
“Since we should choose the strongest one, I propose His Royal Highness Charles, the King of the North, who has defeated that dictator’s newly risen god of the same rank. His strength is well-known to all!”
Marx’s proposal was accepted by most people.Coal, the demi-god Sword God of the Swordsmen Kingdom, ignored the messenger of the Dawn God’s displeased expression and spoke first.
“I propose Lord Marx, the Shadow Sage. The fact that he has been granted the title of Sage proves that even the great Night Goddess recognizes his wisdom…”
“I also propose a candidate: the Hidden Elder of the Thieves’ Guild, who, as the closest confidant of His Royal Highness Tord, the King of Shadows, must be highly skilled at infiltrating enemy ranks and fighting within them.”
“Then perhaps we should choose His Royal Highness Hawking, the chosen one of the great King of Lies. Surely no one here is better at schemes and deceptions; he can surely trick the enemy without them even realizing it!”
…
All factions proposed their preferred commanders, with the strongest members of the three true gods present making the most choices. This only made the messenger of the Dawn Lord Ivan look even more embarrassed.
In his view, he was the supreme messenger of light, the great higher deity Lord Dawn who brought light and hope to people. Ignoring his opinions was undoubtedly an insult to the great Prince Ivan. Yet those who dared to ignore him were all powerful beings above demi-gods. Facing one or two of them was manageable, but if it were many, even though he believed he could draw on the power of the great Prince Ivan and was thus far stronger than ordinary demi-gods, he still did not dare provoke their hostility.
Therefore, this mission was crucial to the interests and reputation of the Church of the Three Gods of Light. If their side fell out before even starting the battle, they would undoubtedly face punishment from those higher deities, especially Lord Dawn.
This was a situation the Messenger of Dawn was extremely reluctant to see!
So, the Messenger of Dawn could only endure and refrain from eliminating those who showed disrespect toward his true deity, cursing and condemning them in his heart, but he could not take the initiative to start a conflict.
In the final tally, the King of the North and the Sea God received the most votes, with Donald close behind, only a few votes short.
The other powerful demi-gods each had their strengths, but they were all far inferior. The various forces in the Dark Realm operated independently, with no one recognizing another’s authority, while the neutral faction mostly voted for the two neutral true deities of Celt. The Justice faction voted mostly for the Sea God Bassetdo.
Amidst the Messenger of Dawn’s anger and the surprised looks from other factions, Bassetdo, representing the Sea God Kingdom and himself, was the first to speak up.
“I admit my strength and wisdom are inferior to those of Princes Charles and Donald, so this time I will act as a fighter at the front lines and follow commands! I believe that under the leadership of either of these two princes, we can all complete this mission more successfully.”
Bassetdo’s words undoubtedly proved that he was the weakest among the three newly risen deities present.
In fact, Bassetdo was being modest. After all, he possessed powerful defensive armor that was a lower-tier divine artifact, which greatly enhanced his combat strength. If he were to compete with Charles and Donald, he was confident he could gain the upper hand against Charles, who, though he didn’t possess any powerful divine artifacts, seemed mysterious and strong in his eyes. Even if he couldn’t win, he could at least maintain a draw!
The reason for this is, first, that he doesn’t want to strain relations with Donald, the true god who has helped him many times. Second, his Sea God Kingdom is still in its early stages and not fully developed in every aspect. His own followers are not among the first forces to arrive on the new continent, so this is the best opportunity for him to take control there. If he can leave a good impression on the other two true gods, it will be very helpful for him to get a fair share of the spoils after this battle!
Even though this might offend the Dawn Messenger and even cause dissatisfaction among the Lords of Dawn, he doesn’t care too much about that.
However, one thing Basseto said was correct: aside from the King of the North, Donald, with his vast secrets and hidden strengths, remains an unbeatable opponent, even though his power has improved!
Regarding the others’ recommendations and Basseto’s withdrawal, the King of the North and Donald exchanged thoughts secretly and finally decided that he should step forward and take on the responsibility of commanding this battle.
In fact, Charlie originally planned to recommend Donald. In his view, Donald has always been a mysterious and powerful true god—no matter how far he advanced, Donald could always catch up to him unnoticed, even surpassing him. Moreover, in his opinion, Donald’s plans for various events were always the most appropriate, even more thorough than his own.
But Donald rejected Charlie’s idea through telepathy. He wasn’t ready to step into the spotlight yet. It was better to let the gods think he was just a promising new god while secretly strengthening his own power—that was the right approach!
Making a fortune quietly is a proven strategy in any world!
In the end, the role of commander fell to King Charles of the North. Aside from a few factions being dissatisfied, everyone else agreed to accept his leadership. After all, compared to either the Justice or Darkness factions gaining command, it was better for a neutral true god to take this position, ensuring fairness and integrity in both the battle and the distribution of spoils!
But the Dawn Messenger had a completely different view. In his eyes, this Sea God was a true god of his own faction. Even if he didn’t help them and stayed neutral, it was still better than helping the enemies of the Great Lord of Dawn!
Moreover, the situation was different now. If they cooperated with the Sea God to gain command, they would have a better chance of completing the tasks assigned by Prince Ivan!
