Chapter 468: The God of Summoning
Donald named the clergy developed by his followers among summoners “Summoners” to distinguish them from mere mages who specialized in summoning. Depending on their level of faith, they were granted various divine spells, primarily related to summoning.
After acquiring these divine spells and witnessing the power of the true god, these Summoners grew even more reverent toward Donald, the true god.
In particular, an elderly Black Iron-level summoner in his eighties felt the divine power derived from his faith restore strength to his withered body and spark new vitality. This allowed the old summoner, who had been stuck at the peak of Black Iron for decades and whose life seemed nearing its end, to burst into tears of excitement. His level of faith soared from that of a casual believer to that of a devout believer, nearly reaching the threshold of a fanatic.
As a result, he received even more divine blessings. His abilities as a clergy member rose to the upper levels of Silver, while his lifespan increased dramatically thanks to the glow of the true god, restoring him to his prime physical condition.
The further he progressed along the path toward the true god, the more strength and life he gained, until he could live eternally alongside the true god in his divine realm.
Summoners have always been powerful weapons on the battlefield. A Bronze-level summoner could generally match forces with up to 500 ordinary soldiers, and those who summoned combat-oriented creatures might be even more formidable.
The group sent by the Nature Guardians Council consisted entirely of summoners at the Bronze level or above, including one at the Silver level—undoubtedly a powerful lineup.
Blessed by the divine spells of their deity, Donald, the Nature Guardian, each summoner gained more than double the usual number of summoning attempts, with significantly elevated limits for summoning levels. In addition to summoning spells, they also received various auxiliary divine spells such as teleportation and water creation. Though not as diverse as those of other mages, these spells greatly enhanced the survival capabilities of the Summoners!
Faced with the hordes of beasts approaching the fortress walls, the six Summoners positioned themselves at various points along the walls, chanting summoning spells together. This time, they added prayers praising the great Nature Guardian and God of Summoning, Donald, to gain divine reinforcement and summon even more powerful creatures at the lowest possible cost.
The six summoners and four bronze-level powerhouses summoned massive, strength-based beasts suitable for direct combat. Although these magical beasts were no higher than level five, they had enough hierarchical superiority to overwhelm ordinary orcish vanguard warriors whose strength was only at the peak of black iron level. After all, if the orcs’ strength were converted to correspond to magical beast levels, it would only be between level three and four.
The appearance of four large meat shields caused chaos among the orcs who had rushed down to the fortress walls. Many orcs were not killed in direct combat but died due to the chaos and trampling by the beasts.
As the summoning levels increased, the casting processes became longer, so the summoned creatures by the two silver-level powerhouses appeared slightly later. Yet, a few breaths later, they descended among the horde of orcs amidst a burst of light.
One of the two silver-level summoners summoned an adult white dragon.
As the weakest and least intelligent species among pure-blooded dragons, adult white dragons may not possess the golden-tier strength that other dragons achieve upon reaching adulthood, but they still reach the peak of silver level. Coupled with their innate physical advantages as dragons, it is not a problem for them to exhibit combat strength at the early golden stage.
Their deadly breaths and the dragon speech magic inherited through their bloodline are beyond the reach of ordinary mortal warriors.
“Come forth! The messenger of ice from the snow-capped glaciers!”
Suddenly, a giant dragon with snow-white scales, over 35 feet long, appeared above the orcs. As its massive body landed, it crushed more than a dozen orcish warriors on the spot.
“Who dares awaken the great white dragon, Barbara…?”
Along with the appearance of the white dragon, its dragonic might was also unleashed, affecting any creature whose level was not at least one tier lower than its own. This innate mental pressure was enough to make even the strongest orcish warriors feel weak-kneed.
“Attack…!”
The orcish spearmen and a few low-level priests behind them reacted in time, throwing their spears and divine spells at the giant dragon.
However, whether it was spears carrying immense force or various colored attack spells, they only left faint marks on the dragon’s body and failed to penetrate its outer skin, blocked by its once-impregnable scales.
Though none of these attacks, with a strength no higher than level three, managed to harm the white dragon, Barbara, they still caused it pain.
“Damn you, two-legged beasts! You’ve angered the great Barbara—feel the punishment of ice and snow!”
In the eyes of the proud dragon race, only those powerful races on their own level, along with intelligent races like elves and humans whom they had to acknowledge as wise, were considered anything but barbaric creatures of low intelligence.
Driven by the summoner’s will, the already irritable white dragon, even more beast-like in nature, became enraged upon being provoked. It roared angrily, kicked hard with its powerful hind legs, spread its wings to generate wind pressure strong enough to knock down small trees, and soared dozens of feet into the air in just a few moments.
“Roar…”
At the same time, the dragon’s power, which had previously been restrained and only occasionally manifested instinctively, erupted violently. It immediately overwhelmed the orc warriors within a 300-foot radius, causing them immense pain. Some with weaker wills collapsed on the spot, losing their fighting spirit in terror.
After unleashing its power, the white dragon breathed a blast of icy vapor from its mouth, instantly turning dozens of orcs into ice sculptures. Then it dove downward, tearing them apart with its sharp teeth.
This was its usual hunting method—prey, stunned by the dragon’s power, had little time to react and escape. Most lost the ability to fight back and could only be slaughtered by the white dragons.
Still unsatisfied after dealing with these ice sculptures, Barbara turned her attention to the orc warriors around her, who were trembling from the dragon’s power and the icy breath. Under the relentless attacks of the dragon’s strong claws and ferocious maw, many orcs were killed or wounded.
Meanwhile, another silver-armored warrior, the pious old summoner, summoned a monstrous wolf-like creature with pitch-black fur and a length of over 15 feet.
“What is this…?”
Even the most learned mage present couldn’t identify the origin of this creature. Based on its characteristics, they could only conclude that it was a terrifying hunter with powers similar to those of abyssal demons.
Hearing the mages’ discussions, Kelthas, the leader of Dalaran’s magic forces in this war, rarely spoke up to explain: “This monster is called the Hell Reaver. It’s an evolved version of the Hell Hound—a dark creature that uses negative energy. It can only be summoned from a distant other world with the power of the Great Nature Guardians!”
After hearing this, the mages finally understood. It was not the first time that they had summoned exotic creatures never seen in the main world using the power of the true gods—only such an explanation could make sense. A mage who clearly knew the old summoner well couldn’t help but exclaim, “Truly worthy of being the great Nature Guardian, the God of Summoning—Old Kevi not only became a Silver-tier warrior after just a few days away but also effortlessly summoned such dangerous creatures that are even stronger than himself!” Although the mages had a poor impression of the true gods, they still held great respect for gods like Donald, who originally came from a mage background and was an exceptionally powerful mage skilled in alchemy and exotic summoning. In fact, all of Kelsas and Donald’s summoned creatures knew that this Hell Reaver was by no means an exotic creature—it was actually summoned by a summoner who worshipped their master, using faith energy and magic to connect with the true god they believed in, and then invoking it from the summoning list in the Book of Truth through divine power. Of course, since it had never appeared in the main world, calling it an exotic creature made sense. “Ahh…” The moment the Hell Reaver landed, it leaped lightly on all four limbs, avoiding the dense area of the beast herd. Then, with a low howl, it fixed its elegant yet cruel gaze on the large group of orcs ahead and suddenly spat out a black energy arrow as thick as a flagpole. With a loud explosion, the black energy arrow detonated among the orc warriors, killing and wounding many of them—dozens of orcs were either dead or injured by this attack. This was one of the Hell Reaver’s two signature moves: the Dark Arrow, which used explosive negative energy to attack all its enemies with terrifying lethality. A single strike was as powerful as a fifth-level single-target spell cast by a mage. After firing a Dark Arrow to clear the prey ahead and create space for itself, the Hell Reaver stopped using energy attacks. After all, negative energy was scarce in the environment of the main world, making it unsuitable for prolonged battles. Physical attacks, on the other hand, were not greatly affected. As a top-tier member of the Hell Hound race at level seven, the Hell Reaver also possessed formidable combat strength on par with a Silver-tier warrior, and its attack methods were extremely brutal. Almost no creature hit by it would remain intact. If given time, the Hell Reaver preferred to tear its prey apart piece by piece before devouring it.
Moreover, compared to the massive white dragon, the slender and agile Hell Reaver is undoubtedly far more nimble. This is evident from the fact that the Hell Reaver killed hundreds of orcs in just a few moments, with none of their attacks landing on it, and it was even impossible to catch a glimpse of it.
