Chapter 458: The Magic Goddess’s Praise
Regarding the gods’ admiration, Donald humbly said, “It was only with the help of my companions that I managed to escape by chance. As for destroying the avatar of the Destroyer Lord, I led him to a powerful demi-god—none other than the legendary Supreme Brain Aisenxian. Those two had rather bad tempers and ended up perishing together!”
“The Supreme Brain? Could it be true? Is it not a true god but a false god?”
Upon hearing the name Aisenxian, the God of Knowledge, Asten, became instantly interested and eagerly asked Donald for more details. As one who saw himself as a recorder of knowledge and history, his understanding of the Supreme Brain had always remained at the level of rumors.
Not only was the God of Knowledge curious; some true gods even believed that Aisenxian was an ancient supreme god. The reason it didn’t appear in the Pantheon was that it had once fallen and was now recovering, in a state of weakness. Perhaps one of the unlit lower or middle gods in the Pantheon was actually that being. It was just that the Supreme Brain feared attracting the covetousness of other gods, so it hadn’t left its own divine imprint there!
“It is indeed a false god without a divine flame, but as a divine being, Aisenxian’s strength far exceeds that of ordinary newly risen gods. It’s almost on par with the most powerful demi-god, the Deep Sea Giant. Unfortunately, its greed has prevented it from embarking on the path to immortality for thousands of years!”
After hearing Donald’s explanation, the true gods present couldn’t help but sigh.
Recalling their own processes of becoming gods, they had all sacrificed something to eventually embark on the path to immortality and gain almost eternal life.
There really is a saying: “You must give up something to gain something else!” It made perfect sense!
Yet, when applied to Donald, it seemed quite puzzling. After all, he had always strived to perfect his path as a true god. At critical moments, he hadn’t chosen to abandon the difficult path of the Law God and instead opted for the easier path of the Faith God!
But he knew himself that he hadn’t given up anything—only that, with the help of the high-tier artifact, the Book of Truth, he had given up even less than those true gods.
The hundreds of thousands of soul forces consumed while striving to become a demi-god, along with the creatures that had to be hunted to obtain those soul forces, weren’t they also a form of sacrifice?
It would be difficult even for ordinary true gods, let alone lower gods, to achieve such a level.
A gathering of neutral gods lasted for three days. For immortal gods, three days was but a blink of an eye, but for ordinary mortals, going without food or water for three days would leave them exhausted! Since there were gods from other factions staying in the Pantheon as well, the gods merely exchanged feelings and shared their experiences, without discussing any secret matters. Even so, it was a eye-opening experience for Donald, who had never seen so many gods before! The Pantheon functioned like a remote meeting room for the gods, allowing them to communicate with each other at any time. The only drawback was that they couldn’t block other gods’ attention. After most of the gods left, at least their consciousnesses returned, though it was unknown whether they continued to monitor what happened in the Pantheon. The Goddess of Magic, the Goddess of Agriculture, and the Goddesses of Elven Moonlight and Night took Donald with them and met in the void outside the Pantheon. Here, they were not under the surveillance of other gods. Even if those gods knew these three were having a secret meeting, they wouldn’t break through the thin barrier of divine energy, as that would mean offending the one who had created the barrier. Despite having nearly eternal lives, they were still bound by the laws of fate, so no god would recklessly make an enemy for themselves—even if that enemy was far less powerful! Inside the barrier, the first words spoken by the Goddess of Magic made Donald’s expression turn slightly cold. “After leaving the Pantheon, the Lord of Dawn sent a message to my temple in the main world through his followers. He said he gave you two choices: reconcile or become his enemy. If you choose to reconcile, release the demigods under his control, and he will drop the past grievances. If you choose the second option, you’ll bear the consequences!” After hearing this, Donald showed neither fear nor relief. Instead, he said coldly, “Why should he give me choices? Since he’s the one who did this, he must bear whatever consequences arise! If my strength wasn’t not yet sufficient to confront a higher god, I would give him two choices instead: apologize or gain another enemy!” The Goddess of Agriculture, Eilwen, clapped her hands and laughed. “I told you Donald wouldn’t be coerced into compromising!”
The Magic Goddess Julianne’s eyes also sparkled with admiration as she nodded in praise, “To persist on your own path without being coerced by power, yet to understand your place and avoid reckless actions! Your Highness Donald, you are the most outstanding true god I have seen in all these years since I was made a goddess…”
“Your Highness Julianne has praised me! I believe the Lord of Dawn is likely to make such threats through you because he is preoccupied with his own problems that need urgent resolution. He is unwilling to give up a vast territory like the Totem Continent, and he is also very cautious about the three highnesses and the forces behind them, which is why he hasn’t taken direct action against me!”
Donald said with a far-reaching gaze.
“Otherwise, a powerful supreme god like the Lord of Dawn would have countless ways to deal with a new god who has offended him! That’s why I dared to confront him head-on. Otherwise, for the sake of the greater good, it wouldn’t hurt to endure temporarily; on the contrary, I could prepare in secret to strike back at any time!”
The Magic Goddess nodded in approval upon hearing this, saying, “Your Highness Donald, your analysis is completely correct! As our ally, I will not allow any existence to pose a threat, even a powerful supreme god like Ivan. I can guarantee that the Lord of Dawn won’t take action personally. As for the other issues, I believe someone as wise as you will surely be able to resolve them on your own!”
Throughout the entire conversation, the usually silent Elven Goddess Lauren remained silent, but when the Magic Goddess made her promise, this Goddess of Moonlight and Night nodded solemnly at Donald.
As for the Agricultural Goddess, who had always been supportive, it goes without saying that she would definitely stand by Donald.
With the affirmation of these three powerful goddesses, Donald raised his head confidently and said, “Thank you all for your kindness. Rest assured, as long as the Lord of Dawn doesn’t take action personally, no threat to me seems likely to arise yet! If I can’t even handle these minor troubles, how can I talk about continuing on the path of a true god?”
“That’s good! Let’s go back too, otherwise some true gods might start making wild guesses! Hehe!”
The Agricultural Goddess said with implied meaning.
Donald also understood this to some extent. Although it was his first time joining a large family like the Pantheon, having met almost all the true gods in the multiverse and getting to know most of the neutral true gods,
in his view, although true gods were above mortals, they were still human, and scheming and intrigue were all too common!
The four true gods left the Pantheon together and stayed in the nearby void for a while—long enough to draw the attention of some interested true gods. Powerful supreme gods like the Goddess of Magic have an impact on the structure of the gods and even the multiverse with every step they take, not to mention the vast network of relationships behind those three goddesses! After returning to the Pantheon, Donald watched as the three goddesses disappeared from their thrones. Ignoring the curious gazes and whispered conversations of some true gods, he exchanged a glance with Charles, the King of the North who was waiting for him, and together they returned to the main world. As long as one enters the Pantheon once, a divine imprint is left there, allowing them to descend into it at any time using their true form, avatar, or will. However, Donald’s situation was different from those true gods—he came to the Pantheon in his avatar and returned to the main world, unlike those true gods who returned to their own divine kingdoms or true forms. The avatars and true forms of true gods are powerful entities that transcend the rules of the main world. Semi-god avatars are somewhat better, as they remain within the bounds of these rules; although they consume more divine energy, they can still enter the main world relatively easily. But entities beyond the strength of semi-gods, once they descend, will trigger backlash from the rules of the main world. Thus, unless necessary, even powerful supreme gods will not descend in their avatars into the main world! For true gods, traveling between the main world and elsewhere can be simply put as “easy to go, hard to return.” No wonder few newly risen gods go to the Pantheon in their avatars or true forms—doing so means it’s almost impossible for them to return to the main world. In other words, their efforts to spread their faith, establish churches, and other actions that aid in the development of their path as true gods are largely severed. They can only wander outside the main material world, hoping to accumulate enough divine energy one day to create a divine kingdom. Although this avoids the process of ascending to a throne, it is an extremely difficult path! Over 99% of newly risen true gods in such situations, without the help of other true gods, will lose their source of power after their faith is severed, leading to a tragic end! Since Donald has not yet ascended to a throne, his avatar will naturally return to his true form.
Located at the Moonlight Lake Island Estate, Donald was leisurely sipping tea and enjoying the scenery with the countess. What was once a bare artificial island had, thanks to the careful cultivation by the natural mages of the Druid Elf tribe, transformed into a lush garden filled with birdsong and flowers, as dreamy as the legendary elf kingdom of Avendore. Unlike the coastal islands of the Emerald Dream Archipelago, with their blue seas and sunny skies that lift one’s spirits, the tranquil Moonlight Lake Island is more like a quiet, fresh valley path—entering it instantly brings a sense of peace and relaxation.
