Chapter 375: Killing with Someone Else’s Hand (II)
A dungeon in the central region of the Dark Lands, controlled by the dark elves—believers of the Spider Queen—was the third-largest dark elf city in these lands, second only to the southern city of Morthos and the northern city of Scorpion Tail. It was known as the Summer Capital.
At that moment, a tall figure clad in a black cloak followed behind a caravan of gray dwarves, preparing to enter the Summer Capital. His height, far exceeding that of the gray dwarves, made him stand out sharply, and even though he wore a thick black cloak, it offered little cover.
When it was the cloaked man’s turn to enter the city, a smooth voice speaking in the language of the dark elves rang out ahead. “Hey! That’s you! Take off your cloak so we can see if you’re a spy trying to infiltrate the Summer Capital!”
The voice belonged to one of the gatekeepers, one of the two dark elf males. Those who knew his nature understood that he was once again looking to exploit newcomers for personal gain.
The cloaked man gently raised his head. The hood of his cloak obscured his face in the shadows, but his eyes, glowing with golden light interlaced with green lightning-like flashes, stunned the two dark elf guards. An aura of authority, sharp as a sword, pierced through their hearts, causing them immense shock.
Taking advantage of the guards’ confusion, the cloaked man entered the city. His steps appeared slow, but in reality, he moved at great speed, seemingly crossing distances in mere steps before vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Only after a few more opportunistic newcomers slipped in and saved some money did the two gatekeepers regain their senses. “Damn it! Who was that? I’ve never felt such power even during the Spider Queen’s rituals!”
The smarter of the two dark elf males quickly warned his companion, “Shh! Don’t say too much. The matters of that man are handled by the matriarchs and priests of the major families in the city. We’re just lowly gatekeepers; worrying too much could cost us our lives!”
The first dark elf immediately fell silent, looking around in fear as if someone was watching them from nearby.
As for the cloaked man, he had traveled from the northern region of the Dark Lands, with the help of magic, and arrived at Donald, located thousands of kilometers away near the central part of the Underworld, in just a few dozen minutes.
Relying on the complex terrain of the underground world, Donald successfully took the lead each time, leading the Destroyer Monarch’s avatar southward. Though unable to escape the crisis, the enemy couldn’t catch up for now. If it became known that a mere mortal mage was mocking them like a dog, the Destroyer Monarch’s reputation would be ruined—especially since the other two of the three strongest beings in the Abyss would surely seize this chance to mock their rival mercilessly! Thus, Ostachius’s avatar, which already controlled the domain of rage, was extremely furious. Its anger consumed most of its sanity, leaving it with only one thought: to chase down that annoying human pest and inflict endless torment on its soul! Unaware of it, the Destroyer Monarch’s avatar had already been brought by Donald to the central part of the lower regions. Even if they returned to the surface now, they would have long left Selth’s borders and posed no threat to Dalaran anymore. After getting rid of the city gate guards and entering the summer capital, Donald didn’t have time to leisurely admire the city’s scenery. He stopped a gray dwarf mercenary on the street, tossed him a gold sol, and said in Common Human Language, “Take me to the largest slave market here!” Besides Dark Elf and Dwarf languages, the common language of the underground world was Human Language, which most underground residents knew somewhat, as the various races with different languages needed a common language for communication. Human Language, the most widely spoken in the main world, became the universal language. Compared to the stubborn simplicity of surface humans and high mountain dwarves, the cunning gray dwarves weren’t ideal guides. But Donald couldn’t just approach a Dark Elf to ask for directions—given their pride, believing themselves the noblest species, they might immediately punish the human who dared insult their dignity! Moreover, the lower-class slaves couldn’t freely move around the city, so the gray dwarves, who ranked slightly below in Dark Elf cities, became the only suitable choice. Upon arriving at the slave market, the gray dwarf smirked and made a gesture indicating several gold coins. Donald generously tossed him another gold sol. Holding the gold sol, the gray dwarf didn’t pull his hand back but said in broken Common Human Language, “That’s not enough. If you don’t give me ten, no, twenty surface gold coins, I’ll shout and draw the attention of the city’s security patrols!”
Some insatiable gray dwarves were still not satisfied. With threatening expressions, they clearly saw that Donald’s secrecy must involve some inconvenience, so they used that as an excuse! Donald didn’t bother arguing with these greedy, reckless creatures. He used a minor spell to silence them and then threw them far into the street with Mage Hand. Entering the slave market, he ignored the half-elves and dwarf brokers who came to pitch their wares and headed straight to the largest slave trading firm recommended by the gray dwarves. “Bring me all the slaves; I want to choose carefully!” The gray dwarf manager of the firm initially wanted to scold him, but upon seeing the crimson magical flames surrounding Donald’s cloak, he quickly swallowed his words. Someone who could cast fire spells on their body without burning even the edges of their clothes was not someone this minor manager could afford to offend. Even though their firm had the backing of a powerful third-family matriarch, he was just an insignificant manager—she wouldn’t risk offending such a powerful spellcaster for him! “Please wait a moment, sir. Our firm has quite a number of slaves!” “Then take me straight there!” Unperturbed by the filthy stench of the slave cages, Donald had already blocked out the air around him before entering. The slaves in the underground world were mostly barbaric races like orcs or goblins; humans were considered the best among slaves, though few in number, as few surface humans wanted to enter the dark underground world! As a result, there were only a handful of human slaves here. As for surface elves, they were precious pets to the dark elves—who wouldn’t keep those delicate elves in smelly, excrement-filled cages when they could raise them at home for their own pleasure? “I want these humans. For any other humans you can find for me, I’ll pay you a 30% commission!” The gray dwarf manager was overjoyed at this and immediately went to negotiate with other firms. Before long, he brought Donald over a dozen human slaves, including two elves. Though they were just a subspecies of forest elves, the gray elves still looked better than ordinary humans!
