Chapter 371: The Terrifying Divine Power
Seeing the opponent’s divine power instantly contaminate a piece of land in the divine kingdom, Donald felt greatly relieved.
“Fortunately, it was willing to waste thousands of points of divine power to bring the Kingdom of Truth into the outside world. Otherwise, even with the protection of the Book of Truth outside the divine kingdom, facing a true god’s divine power would likely result in severe injuries or even death.”
Every normal deity possesses an innate divine power that arises after becoming a god, much like a specialty in magic or swordsmanship. This power can grant a deity a completely new ability or enhance one they already have.
A true god can acquire one such divine power at each level of their divinity, plus additional rewards from the powers of law. For example, a newly risen god gets one bonus divine power; a lower-tier god gets two; a mid-tier god gets three; while a powerful higher-tier god can have as many as five.
Thus, even if a true god does not use their primary abilities or divine spells, they are beyond the reach of ordinary mortals!
The type of divine power depends on the domain the true god specializes in. For instance, the King of Demons controls domains related to demons, evil, and strength. As a newly risen god at level one, he currently has two divine powers, one of which is a bonus from the powers of law.
Previously, Ahab had already used one of them—Furious Manifestation, which is a divine power derived from his primary domain, “Demons.” Now, only the second domain he specializes in remains: the evil domain, from which comes the divine power, Divine Curse.
A true god who wields this divine power can cast a highly evil and corrupting curse on any being, including demigods and other true gods. Its effect is like an amplified version of a wizard’s “curse,” but ordinary beings cannot escape it.
If a deity uses this divine power against another deity of the same or lower rank, the target must pass a willpower test to resist it, and only a true god of the same rank or one with a higher rank can lift the curse.
After all, even when exhausted, a true god remains beyond the easy mockery of ordinary mortals!
Donald had realized that if it weren’t for the new Lord of Force, Ahaz, who fought a mutually destructive battle with his old rival, the Duke of Bones, and they had to confront this guy head-on, they would likely only be able to seriously injure him at best, unable to stop Ahaz from escaping or self-destructing. To capture him alive, one of them would probably have to die in the process.
Amphus was even more terrified, knowing that the King of Force’s latest move was aimed at him! As a powerful demon with half-divine strength, although he possessed divinity, his demonic nature prevented him from igniting divine fire, so Amphus did not have the extraordinary divine powers unique to true gods. His rank and strength were inferior to Ahaz’s, and he was likely to be defeated with just one strike.
So Donald reached out and pointed at the King of Force. Several powerful forces of law stripped him of his ability to resist, then lifted the constraints imposed by the rules of the divine realm on his subordinates.
“It’s up to you. Don’t mess it up. I still need my divine essence and body!”
With that, Donald discarded the now-powerless Ahaz and the grinning Abyssal Demon Master, then left the Realm of Truth and returned to the Abyss.
Thanks to the authority he had granted them, half-divine beings like Amphus would not be assimilated by the divine realm as quickly as ordinary creatures—they could stay there for at least a month. True gods like the King of Force would take an even longer time to be assimilated. So Donald wasn’t worried about anything going wrong for them there.
Since arriving in the divine realm, he had vaguely felt that some great disaster was approaching, so he planned to finish his mission in the Abyss as soon as possible and return to the main world!
Returning to the battlefield, the fighting in front of the canyon was almost over. Only some relatively powerful demons and undead remained resisting, while the rest had either fled or been defeated by Carlisle’s swords and the high-level sorcerer’s spells!
After the Duke of Bones died, Chickfield became the supreme leader of the undead present. Aside from those loyal to Yessin, the undead had one advantage: a strict hierarchy where higher-ranked beings could command all those below them. They obeyed orders without question, whether in marching or fighting, and unlike armies in the main world, they didn’t need supplies or suffer from physical limitations!
But the downside is their poor emergency response ability. With the supreme leader gone, several high-ranking undead beings immediately gathered their subordinates, dividing the originally tens of thousands-strong elite undead army into several groups. Among them, those under the High Lich were the strongest. Although they had the largest number of undead under them, they were still the strongest, as Chikofield, being the top-tier undead sorcerer, controlled the already rare Necromancers and Skeleton Mages among the undead, plus three Gold Liches. Moreover, as loyal followers of the Liches, the Death Knights of the Bone Wasteland also gathered under their banner. However, the forces of the other undead leaders were not insignificant either; combined, they could be enough to defeat the High Lich’s army. But as long as the Bone Duke was alive, these undead lords remained fiercely loyal to him. Yet with Yasin’s death, these lords began to rival each other, their ambitions growing. After all, whoever among them won and returned to the Bone Wasteland would have the chance to inherit the position of the ninth-layer lord and even instantly gain semi-divine power—control over an entire plane! Even undead beings, who had lost most of their human desires, couldn’t resist such a powerful temptation! So even though they suspected the High Lich might be a traitor among them, these lords didn’t bother to punish him, as whoever struck first would lose some of their strength. Moreover, the Liches held the strategic advantage of the Necropolis, making it difficult to take it over. With weakened strength, they risked losing the battle for control of the Bone Wasteland! Thus, a strange calm settled over the valley, like the silence before a storm, silently building up for a true eruption. Just then, Donald suddenly appeared among the undead, immediately drawing the attack of an impulsive Dead Lord. The desire for living flesh was something these bloodthirsty monsters couldn’t resist! Faced with the attack from the Gold Zombie and its subordinates, Donald used a Frost Nova to freeze the approaching zombies into statues. The hierarchical advantage was too much for these unarmed undead to withstand. Then, with a low-level sound wave spell, he shattered the statues. Only the Gold Zombie Lord, with its more durable body, remained intact—but it was also pierced in the head by Donald’s casual Force Blade, its Soul Fire absorbed.
After finishing these tasks, Donald teleported to the top of the castle, intending to have Chikofield lead the way and also search through the lair of the Lord of Magic. Suddenly, he let out a cry and looked up at the sky. In the increasingly eerie abyssal sky, a giant vortex appeared; a large hole emerged among the clouds, and a huge gray-black hand reached down toward them. Such a massive hand could crush and flatten even a mountain, let alone tiny beings like ants on the mountain.
