Chapter 266: Abundant Spoils

Bang! With just one strike, the female Sword Saint who had taken the opportunity to attack the giant magic wolf was flung away by a single claw.
Apart from Carlisle and the Anchored God, the two masters at the legendary level, no one else even had the strength to confront the Snow Wolf God head-on. Their attacks could hardly pose a threat to it, and conversely, the Snow Wolf God’s counterattacks also failed to cause any real damage to them.
The domain power of the Totem God differed from ordinary legendary domains, as it incorporated divine power; the domain laws of the Anchored God were even more formidable. After ascending to the legendary level, in addition to the divine seals related to navigation, sailors, travel, and shipbuilding, as well as incomplete craft and water domain seals, he also spontaneously grasped a protective domain related to those earlier seals.
Like the combat domain, the protective domain was one of the major universal domains. Thus, his domain centered around protection—the domain power most closely related to combat. Every time the Snow Wolf God struck, a golden protective glow flashed, reducing about 90% of the damage. The remaining 10% posed no real threat to those blessed by the Blood Battle Domain.
Since those blessed by Carlisle’s Blood Battle Domain were not suppressed by the Snow Wolf God’s domain, the situation became one of enduring attacks without giving up.
Apart from those merely harassing attacks, the damage dealt by the two legendary masters was real. As time passed and more wounds appeared on its body, the Snow Wolf God realized this situation couldn’t continue. Its domain would dissipate in little time, and facing the siege of two peers would mean certain death.
The Snow Wolf God had managed to roam the Great Snow Mountains for so long because it was a fierce opponent. Realizing the situation and the impossibility of reversal, it immediately made a decision and took action.
Seeing the sudden fluctuation in domain power in the battlefield, the Anchored God realized something and shouted, “Bad! It’s about to detonate its domain power!”
Hearing this, everyone’s face paled instantly. For a legendary master to detonate its domain was akin to the Golden Sword Saint self-destructing with his sword energy—a move that would result in mutual destruction with the enemy. If it really detonated, almost all the legendary beings present would die. The Snow Wolf God could clearly hold out for a while—why would it suddenly detonate its own domain?
“Retreat!”

Carlisle took the lead, protecting Vincent and the others as they retreated. Anchorman had the strongest defense and stayed behind to hold the line.
“Damn it!”
Snowwolf God was ready to detonate his domain, so he certainly wouldn’t let his target escape easily. Yet Anchorman’s protective domain was truly remarkable—its combat strength surpassed that of Snowwolf God’s ice and snow domain, always managing to block Snowwolf God’s counterattacks.
After the others and gods were pushed to the edge of the domain, Anchorman continued to fend off Snowwolf God’s fierce attacks while retreating, looking for an opportunity to get away from this mad wolf.
Seeing that most of the enemies had left his domain, Snowwolf God grew desperate. He thought he had to drag someone down with him even at the cost of his own life—otherwise, his self-destruction would be in vain. So he pursued Anchorman even more relentlessly, determined to get some revenge.
“Boom…”
The violent force of the domain was about to ignite. Anchorman knew he might not be able to avoid it, and the others would also suffer. Thus, a golden shield appeared around him, ready to withstand this fierce assault with its strongest defense.
Just then, a divine light seemed to shine down from the sky, and Snowwolf God instantly lost control of his domain.
“How is this possible?”
A young, handsome human mage appeared from the direction Snowwolf God had planned to retreat to. It was he who emitted that divine light, stopping the violent force of the domain and disrupting Snowwolf God’s escape plan.
Unlike ordinary totem gods, Snowwolf God had hidden divine powers within the bloodlines of his direct descendants, creating multiple escape routes for himself. Even if he were killed, he could revive through those descendants. Though this resurrection wasn’t unlimited—each time it required some of his soul power, and once that power was exhausted, his soul would cease to exist.
But this method effectively gave him multiple backup lives. It was a technique Snowwolf God had developed long ago by devouring dead snow wolf spirits. Since those spirit forms of snow wolves hadn’t had the chance to become earth gods, they often chose a strong, young snow wolf to possess, becoming the new ruler of nearby tribes.
Snowwolf God had once relied on this resurrection technique to escape under the siege of many totem gods. Even some totem gods of herd-based magical beasts could achieve such resurrection, but not every non-human totem god had the wisdom and opportunity to do so!

Because of this ability, the Snow Wolf God chose to use the power of his domain for self-destruction in order to escape, disregarding his own safety. He could simply revive again; it would take a few years for him to regain his strength, after which he could return to exact revenge on these enemies. Unfortunately, the Snow Wolf God’s plans worked perfectly well, but against Donald, all these tactics proved useless. The attempt at self-destruction failed, and Carlisle and the others, who had been forced back earlier, surrounded him once more—this time with Donald, the Golden Archmage, added to the fight. Though panicked, the Snow Wolf God was not utterly desperate. His secret technique of resurrection through a host body had yet to be deciphered; only beings of a semi-god or higher rank possessed such power, as ordinary totem gods could not. “Haha! What does it matter if you win? The great Snow Wolf God is immortal!” Under the siege, the Snow Wolf God was quickly gravely injured, yet he continued to howl defiantly. “I will surely rise again! You will face the cruelest revenge…” As the Anchor God shattered the Snow Wolf God’s limbs with his massive anchor weapon and Carlisle pierced his skull with a sword charged with sword energy, the Snow Wolf God spat out this vicious curse. “Really? I don’t think you have a chance!” Donald sneered. He hadn’t participated in the attack but had been preparing for this moment all along. At the instant before the Snow Wolf God died, he activated the projection of the Book of Truth, pulling out the soul that was about to be revived in another Snow Wolf. The Snow Wolf God’s cry of resentment and unwillingness vanished in an instant. His soul was stripped of its divinity, and along with his totem deity, it was transformed into fragments of deity by the Codex of Gods. The Snow Wolf God’s powers protected three powerful domains: hunting and tactics, the latter being a secondary domain of the war priesthood, highly valuable for gods who specialized in warfare. Hunting was also a powerful priesthood on par with agriculture and war, especially in primitive and backward societies, where it could even rival higher priesthoods like life and light. At least until the industrial civilization of his past life emerged, the true power of gods with this priesthood would not decline. With the death of the Snow Wolf God, the wolf pack surrounding the Snow Creek tribe lost its restraint and scattered with howls.

When the battle ended, several human warriors gathered all the loot, and the three totem gods had no objections. The Anchored God, being a subordinate, naturally would not compete with his master for the loot. As for the Golden Sand God, he hadn’t contributed much and didn’t understand the relationship between his master, the Anchored God, and those human warriors, so he said nothing either.

As for the Snow Stream God, who was kind-hearted by nature and a rare exception among the totem gods, it was already a tremendous help that they had come to assist in defeating the enemy threatening their tribe. He naturally had no right to demand more loot from them.

Back in the Snow Stream Tribe, all the commoners rushed out cheering loudly, celebrating the tribe’s safe passage through the crisis and thanking the great Snow Stream God. Meanwhile, the Snow Stream God hosted a banquet in his temple for the Anchored God, the Golden Sand God, and human warriors like Donald.

After the banquet, the Anchored God and the others began discussing the merger of the Anchored Tribe and the Snow Stream Tribe. Donald and his group found a quiet place in the valley and activated a divine energy barrier.

“Nice haul this time!” Donald said as he opened his palm, revealing five dazzling fragments of divine essence inside.

“So many?” Carlisle exclaimed in surprise. Previously, after hunting four totem gods and a legendary immortal lich on the verge of becoming a god, they had only gathered five fragments of divine essence. Yet one Snow Wolf God was worth all their previous gains—how could they not be delighted?

“The Snow Wolf God is a true legendary totem god. Among totem gods at this level, it ranks among the strongest. How can weak deities like the Thorn Bird God or the Black Fish God compare to it? And if that legendary lich were to become a god, it would likely be even more difficult to deal with. Unfortunately, it was unlucky—just one step short of encountering us—and ended up dying a tragic death!”

“Haha! How shall we divide this?”

“Why rush? There’s more. I also found a batch of treasures in the Snow Wolf God’s lair, including two sub-legendary artifacts among the best!”

With that, Donald took out the divine artifacts collected by the Snow Wolf God along with the two sub-legendary artifacts.
