Chapter 234: The Meeting on Sun Island
A month later, when the Mage Tower was officially completed, Donald brought the original blueprints of the Arcane Tower to the core control room on the second basement floor. He placed the blueprints on the control panel embedded with magic crystals, and soon all of them melted away like delicate snowflakes. The intricate magic arrays and spells within them transformed into mysterious runes and were transferred entirely to the control panel.
The entire mage tower began to vibrate, with a faint blue stream of magic energy spreading throughout it. Instantly, the tower’s energy circuits connected, forming a stable cycle centered around the five elemental pools.
At that moment, a storage magic crystal above the control panel emitted a glowing blue light. This large storage magic crystal was actually something Donald had obtained from the Black Dragon Tomb.
A harsh voice sounded in Donald’s ears. “Master! The Tower Spirit greets you! The five elemental pools have been activated, drawing elemental energy from the five realms. The structural integrity of this tower has been scanned at 89 percent; the rest needs to be completed…”
This was the biggest difference between the Arcane Tower and later mage towers. Lower-tier mage towers could basically only be operated manually, whereas great archmages designed semi-intelligent systems without independent consciousness, such as Tower Spirits.
The most significant magical transformation brought about by the existence of a Tower Spirit was endowing the building with a degree of intelligence. As the central entity, the Tower Spirit itself could store vast amounts of knowledge and possess abilities such as listening, scouting, and identifying spells. As the intelligent system of the mage tower, it could automatically open, close, lock, and seal all doors, windows, and gates inside. It could also see and hear what happened within the tower and relay that information to its master through sound and images.
The soul of a mage tower was an incomplete spiritual entity that could not exist independently of the tower. Its formation was closely related to the elemental forces within it, making it more akin to elemental puppets with only instinctive souls.
However, even powerful archmages could not endow Tower Spirits with personality traits. So, some true mages found ways to extract the cores of natural spirits from mountains and rivers or naive elemental creatures to serve as the intelligent systems of mage towers, making the Tower Spirits more human-like and capable of simple thinking and distinguishing right from wrong.
After completion, the mage tower was a 30-meter-tall white spire. Due to the aesthetic standards of his past life, Donald did not choose a cylindrical structure but instead a four-sided design, giving the tower a more robust and imposing appearance.
The seven-story mage tower has five floors above ground and two underground. The lowest two underground floors house the Element Pools and the Core Control Room, which provide power and energy for the entire tower. The first underground floor contains the Binding Chambers for summoning extraterrestrial creatures and the Arcane Garden, which supplies food, drinks, and magical plant materials, enabling the tower to be self-sufficient in a closed environment and sustain mages for a long time. The ground floor features a public hall, rest rooms, and rooms for all mages. The second floor is used for alchemy laboratories and material storage, the third floor for arcane laboratories and training grounds, the fourth floor is the grand library, while the top floor houses magic teleportation gates and observation rooms, which can monitor all events within a 50-kilometer radius from this height. Although the seven-story mage tower appears to have limited space, it actually uses arcane matrices that fold space, allowing each floor to be at least as large as a football field, sufficient for hundreds of mages to live and conduct research there. Important areas inside the tower are protected by secret locks, alarm stones, powerful magical defenses, and dangerous traps, preventing unauthorized access. The entire Twilight Forest has now been assigned to the mages by Donald. As the lord, he cannot reside in the mage tower permanently, so after the tower spirit recognized him as its master, Donald granted Master Mesel secondary control rights over the tower, allowing him to oversee it. With the enhanced conditions and research facilities provided by the mage tower, it is believed that Master Mesel, who is already at the peak of the Silver rank, will soon become the second Gold Archmage of Dalaran! It is said that upon learning that Dalaran had made a deal with the Ansel family and begun building a mage tower, many high-ranking members of the Mage Association regretted their decision. They thought they were unique in the kingdom and intended to hold out for a high price, only to drive away potential buyers, who then struck a deal with someone else within days. These mages were also dissatisfied with the chief archmages who made the decision. It should be noted that Donald had originally planned to offer ancient artifacts that had been lost for a long time, whose research value far exceeded their actual worth. If obtained and studied, they could greatly enhance the strength of the Mage Association and bring more benefits.
Now things have turned out well—since the item has fallen into the hands of the Ansel family, they have offended that rising mage and his teacher (the outside world still doesn’t know that Donald has surpassed his teacher and become a Grand Mage of Gold). It will be difficult to obtain such valuable treasures in the future.
As a result, many mages from the Mage Association sent messages through the mages at the Stone City Lodge, expressing goodwill toward Dalaran in order to ease relations between those two master and apprentice.
Donald, who heard about these messages from the Mage Association, paid little attention to them. As long as he grew stronger, whether the Mage Association was friendly or hostile wouldn’t have much impact on him!
While the mage towers in Dalaran were being built at full speed, on a large island in the southern part of the continent near the sea, a conference regarding Dalaran was underway in the heart of a beautiful city made up of trees and flowers.
Inside a simple palace built on the branches of a giant tree, a dozen handsome male elves and a woman elf of extraordinary beauty sat in a circle on thrones woven from vines. These were the most powerful figures in the elven kingdom at the time: members of the Elven Council, the Elders of the Sun Elves, and the Queen of the Forest Elves.
Over the past thousand years, due to a significant decline in the elven population, the direct descendants of the High Elves, the Sun Elves, migrated collectively to a large island about a hundred miles from the southern tip of the continent to settle and reproduce. These are the elves we know today.
Humans call it the Elf Island, but the elves themselves refer to it as the Island of the Sun.
Unlike the Moon Elves who worship the Moon Goddess, the Sun Elves, also direct descendants of the High Elves, revere the Sun and nature. They call themselves the Sons of the Sun. They have fair skin, usually golden hair and blue eyes, and are taller than the Moon Elves by about a head—roughly 1.5 to 2 feet taller than ordinary humans. The Sun Elves were once described by several gods as the most perfect creatures in the world—not only for their appearance but also for their powerful innate talents that can rival those of dragons.
However, the Sun Elves have even lower fertility rates than dragons. Currently, the entire Sun Elf population, including those of mixed blood with Sun Elf traits, numbers only a few thousand. If it weren’t for their great strength and long lifespan, they might have already gone extinct in history.
Pure-blooded adult Day Elves can generally attain golden-level strength and enjoy a lifespan of around 1,200 years. Those among them who are Elders possess terrifying powers at the legendary level. A tribe of just a few thousand people, with over a dozen legendary warriors at its core, is sufficient to rival the combined forces of the five major kingdoms on the continent. This is the main reason why the Day Elves have survived to this day.
As for the Moon Elves, who share the same lineage as the Day Elves, they changed the Day Elves’ conservative way of life thousands of years ago. Abandoning reliance solely on bloodline power, they chose to draw strength from deities such as the Goddess of Moonlight and Night. At the cost of maintaining the purity of their bloodline, they gained enhanced fertility and transformed into forest elves who are closely connected to nature. They also gave rise to other common elf races such as the Sea Elves and Gray Elves.
This approach greatly increased the population of elves. During the Great Migration of the Day Elves a thousand years ago, the Queen of the Forest Elves established the second elf kingdom after the High Elf Empire, unifying most of the forested areas west of the Solon Commercial Alliance in the southern part of the continent. They also formed the Elf Council together with the Day Elves on the Sun Island to jointly ensure the survival of elves and protect the safety and interests of all elf races.
Today, in the Sun Temple of the Elf Island, all the rulers of the Elf Council have gathered to discuss the emergence of another elf tribe outside the Great Elf Alliance.
