Chapter 47: The First Hero — Sir Uther the Paladin (III)

Uther!
A human paladin, second-in-command to Sir Lothar, leader of the Order of the Silver Hand, and the first paladin blessed by Archbishop Faol. He is regarded as the greatest warrior in human history. He was also once the prince of Lordaeron, a fallen paladin, a Death Knight, and the teacher of Arthas Menethil, who eventually became the Lich King. The fact that he could train someone as powerful as Arthas, a semi-divine being, shows that Uther’s own strength and potential were extraordinary.

As one of humanity’s heroes, Uther is a legendary human paladin. Sir Lothar was an unprecedented war expert and a king on the battlefield. With such a standard, his expectations for his friends were naturally high. To be his closest friend and right-hand man, Uther must have been an exceptionally outstanding individual.

Moreover, he was the founder of the Order of the Silver Hand. Almost all the paladins in that order were trained by him! Ninety percent of the paladins in human kingdoms came from the Order of the Silver Hand! As the pioneer of the paladin profession, Uther is thus considered the greatest warrior in human history.

Donald named his first hero after this legendary paladin not only out of love for the game but also to express his hopes and ambitions for this hero. He hoped that his hero would grow to be as powerful as the real Uther, or even surpass him.

Unlike ordinary soldiers with limited growth potential, all heroes can train and learn according to their own will, thereby advancing to stronger ranks.

Compared to Clinton and the other two Level 2 soul-level soldiers’ rigidity, as a hero, he started with a soul level of LV5. Such a high soul level endowed him with wisdom that made him no different from ordinary humans from his home world, and even more humane and intelligent than them.

When shaping the hero’s soul, the Book of Truth had already imparted Donald’s understanding of the physical world to the first hero, Uther, who would then digest and comprehend it through his own wisdom.

After Uther adapted to his new state and the basic environment of this world, Donald, not in a hurry with tasks, casually conjured two chairs. After sitting down, he began to converse with his first hero’s subordinate.

“Master! What questions do you have for me to answer?”

“Well, Uther, my guardian knight. I want to know the abilities you possess.”
“Apart from the physical traits and magic resistance unique to heroes, as well as basic knightly combat skills, I currently only have four fundamental skills and a few heroic innate abilities. In combat on horseback, I am proficient in using any weapon, and I also know how to train Holy Knights. Master, with all due respect, the two soldiers by your side are barely qualified warriors, aside from having some basic knowledge of weapons.”
As a hero, Uther naturally carried his own heritage and memories. Among these were not only knowledge and abilities related to being a hero but also the training methods for Holy Knights of the Silver Hand!
Donald was extremely surprised upon hearing this news.
Because the heroes created by the Book of Truth were unique due to certain rules, it was impossible to create multiple permanent heroes. With the ability to train Holy Knights, even if those knights did not possess the heroic traits granted by the Book of Truth, they would still be stronger than ordinary knights, almost on par with the arcane knights under legendary ancient magicians. Then he could train many Holy Knights and establish a new order of the Silver Hand in this world—a force that would be incredibly powerful for him.
Donald nodded and then asked, “When I became a Demon Hunter, I had to slay my first demonic creature to unlock all my skills and talents. As a Holy Knight, do you also need such a step?”
“My strength comes from my spirit and holy light. The source of holy light is the longing for light and good wishes of many intelligent beings. It is a combination of will, faith, and positive energy in the world that forms this light force. Only by understanding the essence of holy light can one become a Holy Knight and gain its recognition. So I don’t need such a step like you do, master!”
While asking about the specific abilities of his first heroic subordinate, Donald also opened the Book of Truth to check the dataized attributes of related skills.
Donald clearly wasn’t very interested in the ethics of holy light. Each hero had his own unique path, and being a Demon Hunter already kept him busy enough. Moreover, the limitations of the holy light realm were too great, and he didn’t want to be bound by faith. So he waved his hand and continued, “Then, what exactly can your holy light do for me and our future forces?”

“I can use the Holy Light to heal my master and his warriors, while dealing devastating damage to units with negative energy.” Donald realized this was the Holy Light, the first hero skill of the Paladin. It was more flexible than the rigid skill usage in the game.
Holy Light: Calls forth a divine light that spreads across the ground, providing healing effects to friendly non-immortal units and dealing damage to undead and other negative-energy units (whether friendly or not). In the game, this skill could not be used on the hero himself, but in the real world, the Paladin could use the power of Holy Light to heal himself.
“I understand. What’s the next skill?”
“Holy Shield. I can use Holy Light to create a shield that protects all units within its range. Inside this shield, physical attacks are infinitely slowed, and magical attacks are blocked. Any attacks outside the shield are deflected by it. Of course, this requires energy.”
“What are the limitations of this shield?”
“My lord, it causes irreversible damage to undead creatures inside the shield, even if they are allies. But this consumes the shield’s energy.”
Holy Shield: Creates a shield using Holy Light to protect units within its range from physical and magical damage; even remote physical attacks cannot penetrate it.
Unlike in the game where only the Paladin could use it, after analyzing through the Book of Truth, this skill became more flexible, similar to spells in this world. Once others were in danger, the Paladin could immediately protect them closely, making it difficult for them to suffer any damage during the shield’s duration.
Donald continued, “Can this shield block all attacks?”
“Based on the knowledge given by my master, I estimate that Holy Shield can defend against attacks below the Gold rank. Even powerful Silver-level attacks can be repelled using the power of Holy Light if I wish. However, once the shield is activated, its size is difficult to change. As for Gold-level forces, which touch the edge of the laws of reality, their power is beyond ordinary attacks. Although Holy Light also has some law-like properties, I need to reach the Silver rank to defend against the ordinary attacks of Gold-level warriors!”
Donald wasn’t too concerned, as reality wasn’t a game—there was no way such absolute invincibility would exist from the start. After thinking for a moment, he asked, “So, can this shield block spells like teleportation?”
Uther shook his head.

“I’m sorry, master. I can’t! Teleportation falls under the category of magic, and it doesn’t rely on ordinary magical elements. Its rules are extremely powerful, even surpassing the force of holy light. Therefore, spells that involve spatial rules are generally difficult to neutralize with my shield.”
