Chapter 12: The Might of the Wolf King – Eleven Suffers a Great Loss
Silence is sometimes more precious than any words; stillness can sometimes be more terrifying than any sound. (Gu Long)
……
It was pitch black, yet all three saw the same thing—a pair of eyes, eyes like lanterns, but emitting a dark green light that filled people with fear.
The Wolf King, one of the six guardian beasts in the three realms, symbolized speed and wildness. He had existed in this world since Pangu created it, possessing supreme power. This Wolf King’s lair had a history of thousands of years. Due to the difficulty of the Shu Road, many people avoided it to prevent conflict with the Wolf King.
But Da Dao Wang, though knowledgeable in many things, did not understand the true dangers of this road. Clearly, he had led Liu Yi and the Ten Heroes into the Wolf King’s territory.
The dark green light slowly moved outward. Liu Yi and Da Dao Wang could hear their hearts pounding faster. The Ten Heroes were excited—finally, they could have something other than dry rations to eat. After rushing along these days, relying solely on food had been unbearable.
The Ten Heroes shouted loudly, “Brother Wolf, come out! I’m starving! Hurry…”
Finally, the entire body of the Wolf King appeared at the entrance of the cave… The three were stunned—what was this? A dog? So small, not even as big as an ordinary wolf.
The legendary Wolf King had grayish-white fur, was smaller than ordinary wolves, and its green eyes stared fixedly at Eleven.
A voice came through, “Someone wants to eat me? Haha, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen such interesting humans.”
The three, who had just calmed down, suddenly panicked—was this a mythical monster? It could even speak!
A violent gust of wind blew, forcing them to close their eyes tightly. When the wind stopped, they opened their eyes again. There was no trace of the little wolf in front of them. Strangely, a young man in gray stood there. Like Liu Yi, he wore a scholar’s outfit, a leisurely headband, and held a folding fan. Yet his aura far surpassed Liu Yi’s, appearing noble and unapproachable. Looking at him, Liu Yi finally understood what it meant to be handsome and graceful, to have extraordinary presence.
The young man in gray smiled at the Ten Heroes and said, “Do you wish to eat my flesh?”
The Ten Heroes replied confusedly, “Who are you? I want wolf meat. I haven’t eaten meat in ages…”
The young man laughed gracefully and said, “I am that little wolf just now—the ‘flesh’ you want to eat. Asking who I am? No one has asked me that in ages. I suppose… my name is Wolf King.”
Hearing this, Liu Yi and Da Dao Wang stepped back in fear. Good heavens, they had really encountered a monster—a wolf turned into a spirit!
The Ten Heroes were even more shocked. Damn it! The sun had just set, and it already came out to scare people! Let Eleven Grandpa deal with this monster first—with a punch from me! Saying this, he clenched his right fist tightly, and faint lightning could be seen flowing within it.
Upon seeing this, the Great Sword King exclaimed in shock, “This country bumpkin knows quite a lot of skills. That’s the ‘Thunder Rush Fist’! Without decades of training, how could one master it? You’re truly amazing, brother.” Hearing this, Liu Yi also wondered how Shi Jieyi, who was so young and not particularly intelligent, could have mastered such a sophisticated martial art. The Wolf King still smiled and said, “That silly kid does know quite a few things—‘Thunder Rush Fist’. It’s a fist that moves like thunder, capable of tearing through heaven and earth, swift as wind and lightning. It seems like something someone like you couldn’t possibly learn!” Shi Jieyi ignored the Wolf King’s sarcasm and declared loudly, “I’ve already learned it. So what? Do you want to give it a try?” The Wolf King nodded lightly and casually said, “Strength lies in the fist. Why not use it? Let me try your ‘Thunder Rush Fist’.” Shi Jieyi had only intended to scare this monster. His master had told him that this fist was extremely powerful and fierce, and even the top ten experts in the three realms couldn’t block it. Moreover, his master had given him a special fruit that had granted him a century’s worth of training in just one night, shaping him into who he was now. His master had warned him never to use the ‘Thunder Rush Fist’ unless in extreme danger. But this so-called Wolf King was really pushing his limits by daring Shi Jieyi to let him try it. Shi Jieyi, who already had a bad temper, couldn’t tolerate such an arrogant scholar. With a roar like thunder from the heavens, he leaped forward, his fist accompanied by purple lightning bolts, aiming straight at the Wolf King’s chest… But something strange happened. The Wolf King stood there motionless, as if he didn’t even consider Shi Jieyi’s fist a threat, or perhaps he was too scared to move, lacking even the basic reaction of a normal person. With a “bang,” dust and debris flew everywhere, as if an explosion had occurred. When Liu Yi and the Great Sword King could see clearly what was happening, they were stunned… How could this be! The Wolf King, dressed like a scholar, was unharmed, casually fanning himself with an umbrella, while Shi Jieyi looked in terrible condition, his chest heaving violently. He was leaning on a rock behind him to avoid falling, but his face turned pale instantly, as if he had suffered severe internal injuries. Seeing this, Liu Yi ignored the Great Sword King’s attempts to pull him back and rushed forward to support Shi Jieyi. He shouted at the young scholar who called himself the Wolf King, “What exactly did you do to him?” The Wolf King sized Liu Yi up from head to toe, his eyes suddenly lighting up as he said, “Good foundation.” Seeing that the Wolf King wasn’t reacting, Liu Yi shouted again, “Monster! Tell me… what did you do to Shi Jieyi?” The Wolf King’s expression returned to calmness. He wasn’t angry; instead, he smiled slightly and said, “Is this your friend? His skills surprise me greatly. He could easily make it into the top 100 of the experts in the three realms. But… he’s unlucky to have met me. I suppose you know who I am—the Wolf King.” Looking at the weak Shi Jieyi, Liu Yi said almost frantically, “I don’t care what kind of Wolf King or Dog King you are. You dared to bully my brother! I’ll kill you!” His eyes were no longer calm; madness and a desire for killing shone through them…
The Wolf King shook his head and said, “Listener, your friend will be fine. His strength was simply reflected back by my protective energy. With his level of internal cultivation, he won’t die.” After a pause, the Wolf King continued, “I’m not some monster either. Haven’t you heard of the Six Divine Guardian Beasts? I am the Wolf King.” Hearing that Shi Jieyi would be alright, Liu Yi felt much more at ease…
The Wolf King took out a red pill the size of a thumb from his sleeve and flicked it lightly. With a “whoosh,” a red shadow rushed straight into Shi Jieyi’s throat. Shi Jieyi immediately felt a sense of freshness, and the agonizing pain in his body vanished instantly, his complexion gradually turning rosy.
Liu Yi asked, “What did you give him?”
The Wolf King smiled slightly and said, “It’s a kind of pill. I made it using the dew here and Bai Se flowers.”
Liu Yi clearly didn’t understand any of this, but the Great Sword King, who was listening, grew increasingly awed by the Wolf King, even considering him a deity… He stepped forward and said, “So you’re the Wolf King. Legends say you’re a fierce beast who had a conflict with the Heavenly Dragon, which is why you left the heavens and came here to cultivate?”
The Wolf King glanced at the Great Sword King and nodded. “Yes. The Heavenly Dragon is too domineering, thinking he can rule everything. But each of the three realms has its own king. There are even people and demons in these realms whose strength can rival his. How could he unify the three realms?”
The Great Sword King pressed on, “So… is that why you came to the Shu Path?”
The Wolf King nodded gently. “It’s been a thousand years. I wonder what the Heavenly Dragon’s plans are now… The mortal world is like tides, people are like water—only a few return from the martial world. I never expected to be awakened by you three today.”
Shi Jieyi seemed to have recovered greatly. He stood up and said, “You old thing! No wonder I couldn’t beat you. Even if I trained for a day, it wouldn’t equal a year of your training time!”
The Wolf King seemed to like Shi Jieyi and wasn’t angry. He smiled and said, “You silly boy. I’ve existed in this world since Pangu created it. You can’t even count how long I’ve been cultivating… But you really surprised me. To master the ‘Thunder Punch’ requires a hundred years at least for someone like you. Who would have thought that at such a young age, you could already use such a sophisticated fighting style?”
Shi Jieyi scratched his head and chuckled. “My master just taught me casually. I didn’t study hard either. My master is the real expert. He said I was only suitable for practicing these fierce fighting styles, so he taught me this. I’ve only learned the basics from him!”
Hearing this, the Wolf King’s expression finally turned serious. He asked, “Is such a person really exist? What’s his name?”
Shi Jieyi smiled foolishly. “Actually… I don’t know my master’s name either. He just taught me martial arts, and I learned them. I haven’t seen my master in several years now.”
The Wolf King’s face finally changed color. Had he been in seclusion for too long? He had lost track of the world. There was actually such a skilled master out there, capable of teaching a disciple with poor aptitude to such a high level?
Suddenly, the Wolf King’s expression changed. He thought to himself, “Could it be Tianlong and the others? If they took him as a disciple, it wouldn’t be strange. But… why would they do that? Should I consider finding a successor too?” Scanning the area, his gaze settled on Liu Yi, and he nodded. Liu Yi noticed that Shi Jieyi’s injuries seemed to have healed in just a short time, and he appeared much more energetic. He thought to himself, “It’s best to flee—this old guy might eat us if he’s in a bad mood.” Liu Yi clasped his hands together and said, “Since everything is fine now, we should take our leave. We’ve disturbed the Wolf King’s meditation.” With that, he turned to head back the way he came. The Wolf King gently waved his fan and said, “Wait a moment.” Liu Yi instinctively stopped and turned back, asking, “Senior, is there anything else?” The Wolf King asked, “What’s your name?” Liu Yi replied, “I’m Liu Yi.” The Wolf King nodded and said, “Good. Now, you can become my disciple.” Hearing this, Liu Yi asked in confusion, “Become a disciple? Disciple of whom?” The Wolf King looked at him in surprise and said, “Of course, you’ll become my disciple. Do you think I should become yours?” Liu Yi stared at the Wolf King, waved his fan, and stepped forward, saying, “Senior, haven’t you slept for too long and become confused? Why should I become your disciple?” The Wolf King, seeing Liu Yi’s strange expression, said, “As long as you become my disciple, I’ll teach you unparalleled martial arts, allowing you to become famous throughout the world—getting whatever you desire…”
